10 Things I Hate About....

Hey everyone, long time reader, first time poster. Been a Bronco's fan for a long time, but I now live in California and am only able to listen to the games via the interwebs. This has been a long off season, and the more reading I do on other sites/MSM, the more Irritated I become. So, I finally decided to join the community and throw out a post. So here it goes. For reference, sarcasam is going to be prevelant everywhere, so keep that in mind and we should all be good :-P

  1. Jay Cutler being emo: I know this has been dealt with to death, but there are some things I want to say on the subject. First, what the hell is wrong with him. I mean seriously, he is a good player but I don't think he fully understands the position he was in. Jay Cutler is a good player with good physical assets (and he certaintly helped me win many games in Madden 09) BUT his attitude always bugged me. He never looked confident in his abilities as a quaterback, never looked like a team leader. And I know I am biased, because I grew up as a kid watching number 7 rocking the NFL and winning back to back Superbowls. Recently I have been going back and watching footage of Elway back in the 80's, and watching video's of him during all of those crazy comebacks, and it struck me that his attitude was probably just as important as his skills as a QB. To quote the S. Sharpe "Never say Never Baby". Cutler never had that attitude, and becaues of that I don't think he will succeed with the Bears. He has the talent, but talent is worthless without the mindset. Oh, and lastly, Cutler, LEARN TO PICK UP THE PHONE!
  2. Hating on Orton: What did this guy do to deserve such disdain from the MSM (and Woody "the reporter" Paige)? The more I read/see about the guy the more and more I am impressed. Go listen to Drew Brees talk about him and I think he really hit on something. Orton was a late round pick, and he has fought and fought for his starting job over in Clevland. He isn't the greatest Quaterback, he doesn't have the same physical tools that Cutler had, but he is a smart player, and more importantly he has the attitude. Just look at the injury he played through in the later part of last year. And about the physical talent.....do we really want a QB who trusts his arm strength to a fault? I say NO SIR! Spread the ball around, take the short pass and do the most important thing and WIN! Show some people (and I know many around here do)
  3. Solomon Wilcots: 8th round pick, 5 years experience....suddenly an analyst with immense amounts of knowledge? Everytime I see him on screen my eyebrows raise Jack Black style and my jaw drops as I hear nothing of inteligence come out.... when he says something I just do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad3Hzsy1-20&feature=related
  4. Brandon Marshall: I think the SportsGuru said it best in his last radio show. Dude has talent BUT. Personally, I have major issues with the guy because of his off the field issues. I don't care how great of a player you are, if you aren't a good person I don't want you on my team. Grow up and Be a man.
  5. No MSM love for Royal: Give this man a medal, keep him on the payroll. He is the kind of player that I want on the Broncos. He has the attitude, the talent, and the awesomeness. I want to buy a Royal Jersey. I mean here is a guy that had similar numbers to BM with less drops, is a rookie, and is an utter professional. Party on!
  6. ESPN: Say Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
  7. Not having an Elway Clone
  8. Me personally being surrounded by Raiders fans.....granted I get a good laugh at their expense every year when their record is less than I can count on one hand, but it makes my fantasy league better when they draft a whole bunch of Raider players :-P
  9. The Denver Post: Why did the Rocky go under and all that is left is that dredge! Makes me a sad panda.
  10. Never having seen a Broncos game in person: The good thing is that I get to see the Preseason game between the 49'ers and The Broncos. WOOT!

All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

Nice post

I particularly like #7. Like you I watched Elway and he just had something. You could see it in his eyes as he just elevated his game and the game around him. Very few players like him ever.

Thanks

And the funny thing about Elway, the older I get the more I appreciate the way he handled himself on and off the field. At this point I will take a player with the attitude of Elway over someone with the talent of Cutler. Just my opinion

You're right

It was the eyes – Elway used to get this somewhat crazed, trance-like, but “in the moment” look that I would think the opposition would find terrifying. In fact, if the Broncs were behind and I didn’t see that look, I prety much wrote them off for that game. JC never displayed this and I wonder whether he ever will.

Nice Post.

Also in CA, surrounded by Raider and 9ner fans. Yuk.

Don’t know where you are in CA, but we get the Broncos several times a year on CBS13 in the Sacramento area. Plus you can at least get the two Raider’s games I’d think.

Cep't when they are being blacked out

Cause of poor ticket sales. Been sticking with NFL.com’s field pass plus Yahoo’s game thingy. Probably a good thing I didn’t have to see some of Cutler’s passes, might have less hair on my head :P

LOL

Can’t imagine why they’d have poor ticket sales. ; )

Nice first post

look forward to seeing more.

Ditto #3.

I’m down south of you, stuck in LA surrounded by Faders & Dolts fans (oh, and 1 49er’s fan). But that’s okay, I just smile each season and say little and let them suffer. :)

Pray for the best, prepare for the worst, and know you will come down somewhere between the two.

Don't be afraid to show your colors at the fader fans

Just stay away from the Thugs. When I lived in LA(and Long Beach), I never got harassed more than verbally from them(I always told them I had them surrounded, lol) I also have some really good friends that are jokeland fans and I purposely wear my bright orange “RAIDER HATER” shirt to Union meetings just to get a rise out of them. Welcome SpaceCowboy and good hunting in the job market.

Thanks

Unfortuantly I live much closer to Jokeland….part of the reason I don’t go to the Bronco/Raider game in Oakland is dont wanna get stabbed by haters!

I agree that would be a risk

I almost got tickets for the 07 game in Fauxland...

I was living near Modesto at the time…but it just wasn’t worth the possibility of being attacked.

Nice first post

Welcome, my friend, and keep it up!

A tiny point: “Orton was a late round pick, and he has fought and fought for his starting job over in Cleveland”

He was a 4th rounder and went to Chicago. That’s Ok – he might have been better loved in Cleveland! The strangest thing was that he came out of a very find spread formation with problems with his mechanics and footwork that meant that he should have been given a chance to sit for a couple of years ala Tom Brandstater (we hope!). However – injury to Rex Grossman and poor play by his backup meant that Orton was tossed into the fire his first year. He rebounded after being benched for a year and took the starting job away from Grossman. He’s done a fine job, and I honestly don’t understand all the hate either.

As bradley reminded me, some folks don’t have much better to do…;-)

Great post and rec'd

Thanks for the love for ST&NO, too. I will actually be running one on Monday this week, provided I don’t die in a freak meat grinder accident or something.

Great post SpaceCowboy,

all ten points are pretty much right on, and being a conformed raider fan I know how they can be. I lived in the San Joaquin Valley for a long time and I worked with this guy who turned his whole garage into a raiders shrine, big screen TV, beer box, recliners, bar, and the whole works. He was a fanatic for the stinking raiders, but now…I guess I am too, but for the Broncos.

Well, it was a great article indeed. But I have to say that it is now time to leave Jay alone and talk about Kyle. No one knows what went on in that meeting room and we never will so it is unfair to ask what’s wrong with him. Of all the places for him to land, he landed in Chicago so that’s not bad. He could’ve ended up worse off, but maybe your version of “good” wasn’t his version of “good.” Let him go on and so should everyone else because we don’t know what the future holds for any of us. I’m glad the bears aren’t on the schedule this year!

The NFL heads will find a way to put Chicago on our schedule in 2010!

Coming to a Monday night near you!

Really glad I didn't include any player's names in my screen name with all the turnover we're seeing this offseason...

Sadly we'll have to wait until 2011

but at least it will be at home…hopefully for cutler it isn’t “dozen egg” night at Invesco Field.
