Horse Tracks 6/27/09 - Clady finally gets some well-deserved love

Horsetracks_new_medium

DB - Taking a Break
With a month of downtime before training camp begins, most of the veterans are headed home or on vacation, while the rookies are off to the league's rookie symposium. Robert Ayers plans on burying himself in the playbook and playing UFC games on PS3 and XBOX360 online, while Kyle Orton, Brandon Stokley and Chris Simms will be keeping their noses to the grindstone.

DP - Broncos' Graham gives back to hometown
Armstrong details Daniel Graham's football camp, which DG runs along with his family. Interestingly, Armstrong says "so much for...negative headlines involving NFL players." Well, apparently you're forgetting DG's own negative headlines, Jim. Don't get me wrong; I'm glad DG is a Bronco and that he gives back, but we can't just paint over the bad stuff.

CBS - Top 50: Lining up again behind those two quarterbacks
Wow, I didn't see this one coming. Pete Prisco gives Ryan Clady his due props, ranking him as the best OT in football and the 16th-best player in the league. How about that, folks? He puts the Champ at #22, which he admits is higher than others might rank him.

CBS - Positional Rankings: Tackle
Prisco briefly ranks the tackles, starting with Clady.

FOX - Positional Power Rankings: QB packages
You guessed it; the Broncos are ranked last. Personally, I can't see how the Niners, Vikings (without Favre), Raiders, Jets, Lions and Bucs can rank higher than Denver.

FOX - 7 Points: Ravens need a receiver now
Ed Thompson makes it sound like the Broncos are paying Dre' Bly to play for the Niners. Well, it's just cap money Ed - not actual money.

DP - Witness claims threat in Darrent Williams case
The man who intercepted Willie Clark's confessional letter claims he was threatened into not showing at court in response to a subpoena.

NFL - Grab your No. 2 pencils -- it's final exam time!
Pat Kirwan has a terrific quiz on the 2008 NFL season. Me, I didn't do so hot - only 16 correct out of 30. That puts me on the bubble. No cheating!! (For me, the hardest section was the first 10).

Thanks man...

At least I made the roster. Some surprises there for sure!

Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

I made All-Pro but just barely...

that’s actually a fun quiz cause it points out so many MSM distortions. Good find.

Mornin' NYC

I was cut. I’m terrible at these things. My best category was T/F. In the last section I just started throwing out names of co workers because I couldn’t think of anyone else. LOL

Me too

Don’t worry, we can go have a “We Got Cut” party. I was always terrible at standardized tests!

Thanks as always NYC

Hard to see how having two starting caliber QBs ranks us last in the league, but you have to let the haters hate.

Hey NYC...what did DG do in his past? First I have heard about it.

You're Welcome

I do, however, appreciate that today’s Daniel Graham article emphasized good character and do not believe that we are painting over the bad stuff by running a positive story.

Whew...

I made the roster. I was doing all right until I missed half the fill in the blanks.

Thanks for all the great links, as usual!

Take my advice... I'm not using it!

Top 50 players

I saw Clady, Marshall, and Champ, but where’s Cutler?!?!?! We’ve lost all hope for our season without him, the greatest quarterback of the last 15 years!!!! He didn’t even make the top 50, the man who without him – his never miss arm, steadfast work ethic and apex of leadership – we’re certain to be 2-325 over the next 10 years?? Insanity!

God I’m glad I’m not really like this.

LOL

Cutler made the “just missed” list. Interestingly, the Broncos had 3 players (Clady, Bailey & Marshall) while the Bears had none. 7 QB’s are on the list. 2 QB’s are on the “just missed.”

Can you imagine going 2 - 325......that would suck!

Then you’re the Detroit Lions.

I need to go back to school.

19. Missed a contract extension by a point. Still, I’m ok with the score. I’m very Bronco-centric, and my knowledge of other teams is more based on Xs and Os than players or stats. I thought I would do much worse. (To be fair, several of the multiple choice questions I got right were guesses, and even a few T/Fs).

I got 6 Mult. Choice, 8 T/F, and 5 fill in the blanks. I took 18 minutes. (That’s not so fast when you consider that I guessed on a lot of questions. I struggled on a few for a long time).

This was a hard test. I think anyone who just made the cut did darned well. Despite my love for Broncos and football, I’m one of those guys who always avoided “Sports and Leisure” in Trivial Pursuit.

Which reminds me of a really funny skit from an old Saturday Night Live:

“Death” comes to take away a guy who has just died. The guy says, “Don’t we get to play a game of chance”? Death replies, “We’ll play Death Pursuit. The categories are Death, Death, Death, Death, Death, and Sports and Leisure”.

“What? Ae you kidding?” says the astonished soul.

“Yeah”, replies death. “Everyone seems to hate Sports and Leisure”.

“No, no, no.”, says the dead guy. “I mean, I thought we were supposed to play chess or something”

“Well”, says Death “I used to do that. But damn it, I’ve been trying to take Bobby Fischer’s life for years now…”

Adrian Hasenmayer...who is this person? calling the Broncos 32nd, last, zilch, nadda,

zero, what a chump if he or she really believes the raiders, bengals or rams, be better than us. And KC, please, they have so many hushed-hushed issues and got rid of their go to guy (Gonzalez), they may be taking the 1st pick in the draft next spring. Detriot all of a sudden became way better than the Broncos with Stafford…please, check that person’s medicine cabinet…evidently he or she over dosed on something.

I've been thinking we should start a MSM Wall of Accountability

and post some of these guys’ prognostications for historical purposes.

And does it ever cross anyone’s mind to wonder how many of those guys get to vote for HOFers??
