B Marsh hates Denver?
Another controversy involving Brandon Marshall is making the rounds in Denver.
But will the revelation that Marshall told Denver police he wanted to be traded during the 2007 season mean anything about his future in Denver?
Probably not.
According to a Denver police report obtained by a Denver television station after Marshall's arrest for drunken driving hours after he starred in a win over Pittsburgh, Marshall said he wanted to be traded and expressed "hate" for the city. Marshall asked Denver to trade him last month because he wants a pay raise and he has medical trust issues with the team.
This will likely cost him a few fans in Denver. But it really doesn't mean anything. The team's brass was probably aware of the report. The Broncos have a good relationship with the police department in Denver.
This is a near 2-year-old incident. It's just further evidence of Marshall's immaturity. But I don't believe it has anything to do with the current situation.
Marshall wants more money. If he gets it in Denver, he'd probably love the city. And an old remark by the player isn't going to infuriate Denver coach Josh McDaniels, who didn't meet Marshall until this year.
So, while the report has its eye-popping aspects, I don't think it is relevant to the current issue.

totally past
I’ve had friends who as they received citations for drunken driving tell the officers how much they hated the police, even though they will support and promote respect for the police at any other time.
Sounds to me like a kid who was po’d cuz the cops ruined his “fun.”
Pray for the best, prepare for the worst, and know you will come down somewhere between the two.

I'm sure Mike Vick hated the Virginia authorities for seizing his house.
This stuff’s bound to happen, especially when a guy’s been drinking too much. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
Peyton Hillis is also referred to in early Greek mythology by his other names such as Zeus or Poseidon.

This really doesn't matter
Marshall’s anger was really directed towards the Denver police, not the city or its fans. He was frustrated with being pulled over, frustrated with the Darrent Williams murder, but he wasn’t frustrated with the Broncos (at this particular time, at least).

Devil's Advocate
Maybe this is, as most people here think, a non-story. But what it should do is put to rest the idea that McDaniels is somehow responsible for players wanting out of Denver.
Will the same experts who’ve been pushing that narrative adjust it now that Marshall expressed his hatred for the city and his desire to be traded two years before McDaniels arrived in Denver?
Of course not. Instead, they’ll just expand the story to blame not only McDaniels but the entire state of Colorado for the a couple of starry-eyed malcontents who pine for a brighter spotlight. Don’t know about you guys, but I eagerly await the future “Outside The Lines” episode that examines if “racism” in the southwest leads players like Marshall to “hate” Denver. Cue Romanowski spitting. Excerpt Sharpe. Tie Elway to the Republicans, which is just a code word for racist, xenophobic, misogynistic homophobe, anyway. Right? Right?
It practically writes itself.
Bob Ley just felt it move.

Context?
No way a justification or remotely condoning Marshall’s DUI or any previous or subsequent behavior, but trying to understand the situation at the time and the words spoken, while impaired, after being transported (assumed cuffed) to the DUI Room.
The arrest was on Monday morning… Monday morning? The arrest happened several hours after the Sunday Night NBC nationally televised game vs the heavily favored Steelers. Before the game, the Broncos honored former players Darrent Williams and Damien Nash, who died all too young during the offseason.
A little history…"On January 1, 2007, Marshall was present at “The Shelter,” a nightclub in Denver, Colorado, along with teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams. The trio was attending a birthday party held for and by Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the players were leaving the club in a limousine, Williams was fatally shot in the neck after an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle. Willie Clark was later charged with the murder. Walker has stated in interviews that the shooter was likely a nightclub patron whose motive was retaliation after being involved in an altercation with Marshall’s cousin earlier that night." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Marshall
This was one of several of Marshall’s encounters with the Denver Police and maybe motivation, however misdirected, for lashing out at the Police in particular and Denver in general.
From the report “I HOPE I GET TRADED” and not I WANT TO BE TRADED.
Marshall (and his agent) should just be very quiet, play hard, stay clean, and show some humility. The money will find him, in good time but not to a WR Problem Child; the NFL has too many of those already.

I have drank too much.
I have driven drunk.
I have said stupid things that I didn’t mean or shouldn’t have said drunk.
Most of this happened in my teens and early twenties.
Thus, I gotta give BM a pass on this one.
I am an idiot walking a tightrope of fortune and fame
I am an acrobat swinging trapezes through circles of flame

and though I'll never forget your face,
sometimes i can't remember my name.

It reminds me of this song...
Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk
I didn’t mean to call you that
I can’t remember what was said or what you threw at me
Please tell me
Please tell me why
My car is in the front yard
And I’m sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
And you’re gone
The song is by “Lit”
It’s a pretty cool tune and I think we’ve all been there. I know I have once or twice. Well ok. Who am i kidding. Can’t really remember how many times but who’s counting anyway?
That said, I am not on BMarsh’s side here. When I was doing all that crap, I was probably making 6 bucks an hour doing landscaping or something. The dude is an employee of a billion dollar company, in the public eye, and making millions. He needs to shut his f@*#ing mouth, grow up, and play.
All you get from drafting the "best player available" is a team full of good football players.
