More on the Brandon Marshall situation: ESPN taken to task by Florio.
I have been known to call BS on Mike Florio form www.profootball.com, but his background as a lawyer helps him have some unique perspective on NFL players and the law. Read below for his take on ESPN's "Fair and Equitable" reporting......I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit saying that!!!
Read on!
From facts gathered by Florio, and they have been ones that I have never seen or heard little about, it appears that Marshall was the target of some pretty straight up black mail and extortion. Reading todays article that can be seen here:
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/06/06/espns-brandon-marshall-story-omitted-key-facts/
it is clear that the ESPN story was designed to publicly draw and quarter BM in the media, while BLATANTLY omitting key facts from the story that would paint Brandon as anything but the bullying, women abusing NFL player that ESPN wanted to create all for the sake of ratings and sensationalism.
While I wont say BM is blameless, I think all of us that were willing to come down on him because of the subject, more than the ACTUAL facts of the case, need to look at the case with more openness.
As for ESPN, they have once agin proven what a completely and utterly worthless agency that they are with regard to even handed reporting. They continue to try and gut the broncos for reasons I fail to understand, and the OTL report highlights this.
I, for one, am done with them. ESPN is now one of my most despised 4 letter works out there.
Would love to hear some opinions.
Peace.

So, if that letter comes out in court, I don't know how the jury could rule in her favour.
She writes the NFL offices to tell them that she was under pressure from her parents to extort money from Brandon, and that he never hit her, then she (allegedly) recants a few days later. I think the fact that the letter was written at all completely undermines her case.
I should say that I can only assume the letter exists because ESPN says that they have it, and Florio quoted it in his article.
I didn’t like the way ESPN handled it all, I thought it was sensationalist journalism at it’s worst. And it’s even worse now. Having said that, I want to believe Brandon didn’t hit her, so my hopes lean towards him. If he did hit her though, I can see the penalty being a fine, missing some games and having mandatory treatment.

Nice Solace...
Here is one thing that I have thought over and over:
Can you imagine the damage that BM would have left on the Watley if he had of hit her as many times and as fiercely as she claims. Either he is the WEAKEST 230lb 6’5" pro athlete of all time or the girl is made out of titanium.
The whole story, based on common sense, has not gelled from day 1.
BM should have been out of the relationship from day 1 man……day 1. He is guilty of being stupid and putting himself in those situations.
He is not absolved of blame by any means, but it is a lot different from being an abuser of women.

All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????
Maybe a conspiricy under all this
How would SD like to have BM suspended when we meet them? How much influence might SD have at E*** to keep this a hot issue in frount of the NFL Comisioner? The Comis only cares about what gets the most publicity.

The fact that she waited....
THEN decides, you know what, I’m going to press charges on this $hit that’s already over and done with, shows- to me -that it is a blatant attempt to get money….
We can only hope for justice, as you state, I/we have no clue on what really went down, but they’re obiously both a little retarded for staying with eachother for so long to begin with. I’ve known too many people like that, who will stay in ‘abusive’ relationships (whether it be mentally or physically abusive). I hope there doesn’t exist any lawyer loopholes that allow them to discount the letter….
Well, thanks for the post and the article link. I will join the ESPN boycott as well, rightly so!
Cheers to a FULL – exuberant – season WITH ALL of our players!!!!
First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and we oughtta let someone else have a turn : )

I bet the Watley's also saw an opening
When BM got in trouble again with his current fiancee. They probably approached ESPN… or at the very least were much more prone to do the story on OTL than before.
Clearly, it was a volatile relationship. I’m sure both sides were guilty of being overly physical with each other. It’s was probably for the better for them to break it off and go their separate ways, but BM’s latest off-the-field issue makes me worried that he still has not learned how to handle these kinds of situations.
I've said it once and I'll say it again
Ignore the media, think for yourself.
With the 12th pick, the Broncos select Knowshon Moreno - Roger Goodell
That'll move the chains - Andy Samberg
Amen Brother
The media is too into mind control. We ALL need to think for ourselves.

I watch espn only for games, that is it...
They slander us and berate us to the point that it’s completely silly. They are the losers and I hope one day they will go under, fold up, kaput…
Love the Post Boydy!
On NFL Live the next day (Monday) they played excerpts from the OTL piece and went to the all knowing John Clayton who said the NFL would probably hand down a 4 to 6 game suspension. Unbeknownst to Clayton the letter to Marshall letting him know he would NOT be suspended would have already been in the mail since he recieved it Tuesday morning.
That means John Claytpon is either ignorant or a flat out liar! Has anyone seen Chris Mortenson since he admittedly said his piece on the “feud” between Bill Belicheck and Josh McDaniels was pure conjecture on his part? Coincidence???
Gotta love the MSM. Is it also a coincidence that Chris Berman was also listed on an opinion feature as the most overrated NFL studio host? Could it be fans are actually seeing ESPN for what it really is?
Love the post!
The QB position is set.
Thanks man.....ESPN have NO credibility and are losing it by the day.
They were the only game in town for the longest time, and blinded everyone with pretty graphics and pretty sets. Now, with the invention of sites like ours we have seen 2 things happen:
1/ Guys who were writers are actually researching and getting better with their craft eg. Legwold.
2/ Blowhards like Mort, Clayton, Schein, the Czar (now theres an idiot!) and ex players like Wilcots that were considered “experts” are getting found out. What do these guys do? They get on their soap boxes, out yell everyone and tell you how much they know and you get worn down by it. They are getting found out. Billy Boy is heading down that path with experts opinion based on nothing but having a forum that THEY control.
I am glad all this BS is getting found out…..and not before time!

I know I sound crazy
Florio just gained about 1 point of credibility to me, where ESPN just lost all theirs. I hope Schefter knew what he was getting himself into by going there.

What's disappointing...
I love this website. What I find disappointing is this: Brandon Marshall is no different that the 100 of thousands of men out there that get involved in domestic disputes nationwide. I’m not going to judge his actions, his choice in life partners or his way of coming forth in attempts to be accountable. Everyone makes mistakes and pay accordingly. Sadly, it seems certain outlets in the media want to speculate, and in some instances, a mandatory suspension.
When names like Tank Johnson, Adam Jones, Udel Thomas and Chris Henry are mentioned in the same breath as Brandon Marshall, I cringe. These are criminals w/very disturbing lifestyle choices. Marshall is guilty for being involved w/a female not interested in a relationship but more so personal gain. That should be the story. For all athletes in pro sports, regardless of gender, race and color.
I don’t write often but I have felt strongly that Marshall would not be suspended and I’m glad to be right because I get free Guinness. Keep up the great commentary. Orange and blue, orange and blue…
Say hello to my fast...
Nothing is fact until all sides are fairly heard from !!
As former police officer I had been called to numerous complaints of domestic violence. I have been sickened by what some individuals have done to the people they love, as I have been sickened by those who try to take advantage of the situation to get revenge or hurt others. Probably 95 % of the time you can tell those who are being abused, if you are a competent officer, the other 5% can be tough to ascertain what really happended from either side. I have arrested personal friends for domestic abuse, most of these people cried on the way to jail and are truly remorseful, some sadly are not. One friend was about the same size as his wife and he left marks that anyone could see, so I have a hard time believing that someone Brandon’s size would not leave some pretty compelling evidence. There are officers out there who see only in black and white, and to them anything close to that statute is a crime and they let others sort out whether it is or not. They do not care what it does to the people involved, they make the arrest and walk away. If you believe that some individual can’t bring out the worst in each other than you have never seen what I have, it doesn’t make me a better person than anyone else, it just provides me with a special insight. I have had advocates for the abused ask me to make the arrest even when there was no evidence to provide probable cause, they in their own way asked me to lie, and go against the oath I swore to. Sorry about the length of this post but this angers me when those who can influence peoples perspectives take that job lightly, and have no concern whether they get to the truth only sensationalism. They poke into the recesses of all man to illecit reactions to promote themselves and nothing good every comes of it. Here’s to a great year as Bronco fans.
Awesome post Buzz and thanks for the unique insight my man!
