1st Hand Account of Fan Day

My family and I took our first trip to Invesco Field at Mile High for the Mile High Fan Fair this weekend.  I thought in the spirit of Colorado Kitten's recent post about Invesco Field I'd share with all you brothers and sisters my experience.

Star-divide

We arrived a smidge past when they opened the doors and as such we were welecomed by long lines and lots of orange and blue.  The stadium is very impressive.

Photobucket

I wouldn't buy a $4.75 hot dog there or anything, but it isn't like you'll get a fair price any where else though!

Photobucket

So to give fair warning to those of you who are more Xs and Os, I didn't do anything in the way of the Q and A they have.  There are multiple sessions throughout the day where the players and coaches take questions from fans though (Brian Dawkins and Coach Nolan were two notables that I would have loved to hear from).  I had the family in tow so we focused on getting a few Autographs (if you want these plan on showing up early as the line I went through took over 2 hours to get through) and some pics.

I'm going to skip the pics of the line...but it isn't like you are totally without entertainment.  The lines all go through the stadium and you can watch any of the following to keep yourself amused:

Kids playing the on-field games.  They have time later in the evening for adults, but meanwhile just the kids and Broncos staff get out and have some fun.

Photobucket

Also they put quite a few things up on the Jumbotron.  Here's a chat they had with Darius Walker and Champ Bailey (below the big screen and to the left is the picture area where they are actually standing):

Photobucket

The Beast had a quick interview with a kid too.  The funnies part was when Brandon commented something to the effect of, "What's up with the Cutler jersey?  We gotta get you in a number 15 shirt man...I'll let it slide this time..."

Photobucket

I also got to watch Daniel Graham throw to a bunch of kids on the field as well:

Photobucket

Photobucket

We were really stoked when we finally got to get some signatures.  We got the following:

Carlton Powell (really think this guy will be a pleasant surprise this training camp)

Photobucket

Mathhias Askew (team site says he is 300lbs...if he is his legs must be friggin huge cause I don't see it at all.  I know muscle is heaver than fat, but by looking he can't be much bigger than me  :P )

Photobucket

Then we had Lamont Jordan.  I really think he'll be another pleasant surprise.  I've always appreciated his game even when he was a Raider.  The guy is a bowling ball.

Photobucket

As a side note, on the table he had his phone which my wife wanted  a picture of just to see what kind of phone he used.  I noticed when looking the dude was sporting crocs.  Now I'm not gonna say it to his face for fear of being beaten unconscious, but dude!! Really!?  Crocs!?  ...at least he wasn't wearing business casual with them...

Photobucket

On the way out we got a pic of our favorite "new" wide receiver named Eddie:

Photobucket

Later in the day we saw Daniel Graham at his foundation's booth.  He was kind enough to get a picture with me and our youngest (how can you say no to a photo with a cute toddler!?...lame I know...but it worked)

Photobucket

Of course to finish the day off I had to go see our trophies.  It was awesome to see them...I know they are just hunks of metal, but for a long-time fan it is good to see the fruits of our labor first hand.  We suffered some crushing loses in the Super Bowl...good to see the promised land and rememeber how great it felt that when Mobley knocked down that 4th down pass!

Photobucket

My family and I are very thankful they do this for the fans.  Everyone on the team is supposedly there at some point during the day.  Thanks Broncos for the opportunity to meet you and revel in the heart of Bronco Country!

Glad you had a fun time Sadaraine

Thanks for sharing your trip and for the pictures that you took. I have heard a lot about Fan Day. I would like to attend that sometime in the future.

I hear you on the Crocs, not really the fashonable thing. However I wouldn’t have said anything either to someone several times my size.

Thanks!

It is a good time for sure.

Yeah…did you see the guns on that guy!? You sir can wear crocs whenever you want outside of the football field. :)

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

Crocs rule

I wore them to Fan Fair myself on Saturday – ha! And now I have a Bronco to back me up! :-D

Ugh

You are killing me lady! No way now how. I’ve seen a pic of you and Stu…you don’t intimidate me in the least. Crocs are the suck and should be banned nationwide. :P

I Support The

Anti Croc movement. How many children’s feet have to get removed in escalators before they are banned! I foresee Tobacco esq. litigation in the future, I want to know what the manufacturers knew and when!

Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

I love my Crocs too.

I used to be skeptical, but now that I have some, I love ’em.

Great post, nice pictures.

Thanks for sharing. I think for us out of staters, it’s nice to see stuff beyond the usual newspaper or internet photos. What kind of turnout was there?

by Streams Of Whiskey on Jun 8, 2009 5:02 AM MDT reply actions

The turnout was sick

Estimated at right over 5900 people. It is a good thing the stadium is so big as it didn’t seem like there were thousands.

Ditto to all the above

Thanks Sadaraine

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I have to say after posting this I have a whole new appreciation for the regular contributers here. It takes quite a bit of time and effort to get these things done…and that was with limited comments and just a bunch of pics.

I hear you, Sadaraine

after my INVESCO post, I have a whole new appreciation for the regulars. It takes a lot of work!

Thanks for posting this! We had a great time at Fan Fair, but I didn’t take as many photos….although I did get one with me and Thunder II which I think will be my new avatar once I get it off the camera. :-)

Even without the photos

(which I can’t see right now…later!), great post sadaraine!

As it just so happens…Kitten and I were there as well! We spent most of our time in the autograph (no picture) lines, a strategy we may have to adjust for next year. However, we did get McDaniels, Orton, Alphonso Smith, and several others (coaches included). I’ll have to look at the signed ball again to get them all.

Cool

How long did it take you two to get through the autograph only lines? If it was quicker we may try that next year. I’m stoked no matter who’s John Handcock we get, but the line was a drag.

I think an hour tops

We went through the north end zone line twice, then two others by some of the gates. The longest was an indoors one that had Spencer Larsen when we started…but not when we got there. The full take was:

Josh McDaniels, Mike Priefer (ST), Keith Burns (ST Assistant), Clancy Barone (TE), Wayne Nunnely (DL), Jay Rodgers (Def. Assistant), Boss Bailey, Alphonso Smith, Nic Clemons, Kory Lichtensteiger, LaMont Jordan, Correll Buckhalter, Matt Willis, Lucas Taylor, and Kyle Orton.

Nice

We’ll have to try that next year.

Great post Sadarine.

I was there as well, and it was a great day. Though the lines suck, it’s amazing how many great fans are around to chat it up with while you wait.

This post has been flagged for extreme awesomeness.

Being 2000-odd miles away, I wanted to go, but I the city bus doesn’t go that far. Thanks for the virtual Fan-Fair experience.

Looking at the second pic, I was trying to figure out what a Soy Ardline was… Is that made with tofu?

LOL

It took me awhile to catch what you were looking at…they need a space in there.

This is wonderful

Having endured a move to warmer climes, having this chance to experience the entire Fan Day really made my day. Thank you!

I think the guy is going to be a surprise…if he can just stay healthy and get out on the field.
