Horse Tracks 7/25/09 - Elway on NFLTA. Enough said.

Horse_tracks_new_logo_medium

Many thanks to Calijoefornia for the snazzy new logo! Have a great Saturday, MHR Friends!

DB - 2009 Position Previews: Linebackers
More talk about the defense being "fun." Then again, D.J. says his new position as the "jack" linebacker is perfect for his skills. Obviously, it's good to hear from all the guys, and that they're excited to play in the new system. Tune into MHR later today for Doc's more analytical preview.

DP - Super Bowl would cap off Bailey's career
The Broncos are hoping to get Knowshon Moreno signed and delivered before Monday's practices. Thankfully, so are his agents.

NFLN - NFL Videos: Elway heads west
HA. John observes that "We've been talking about Favre retiring for a decade," before sharing a basic play from the incorrectly-named West Coast Offense.

NFLN - NFL Videos: Top 10 John Elway moments
The Greatest Ever joins the NFLTA guys count down what they consider his 10 best moments. It's probably about right; keep in mind, it's not his 10 greatest plays...

DP - "I still call it Mile High" … for real Broncos fans
This is a pretty cool T-shirt. I may have to get one; I already gave away my "JC Saves" shirt, so I need a replacement. I actually didn't get the Shea shirt, because quite frankly, Shea was a DUMP and Citi Field is gorgeous. But Mile High? Man, I've only been to each once, but the Big IF just doesn't cut it in comparison...

RMI - Drew on the Broncos’ future
Drew Litton apparently thinks we're still of the "Super Bowl or Bust" mindset.

Take a look back at some of the AFL's original home fields and their fans.

With the end of the 1960s came the end of the AFL and the beginning of the NFL as we know it today.

By the way I did see The Greatest QB to ever play the Game,

on nfl network last evening—pukes & wilcots were no where to be seen.
Also Charles Davis said: He thought the surprise of 09 would be Orton.
The article by PdO the other day on Wondering—makes me wonder….

True dat on Floyd Little!!

Here is the response I posted to Greg Henry’s piece on Floyd Little, which NYC cited here:

Asolutely, Greg! There aren’t many left by proportion who actually saw Floyd Little play, but I did. While I am a huge fan of TD’s, I don’t believe people have any idea just how pathetic Little’ offensive lines were.

I remember reading back then a comment by the great Larry Csonka that he thought Little was the best running back in football at that time. Had Little played for a good football team, he would have enjoyed some championships, been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and been in the argument for Greatest of All Time. I really believe that.

I also believe Little is THE reason the team is the DENVER Broncos today. He truly saved a floundering franchise, hence the moniker “The Franchise.”

Great job on the logo Calijoefornia!

But who will guard the guards themselves?

I agree with the logo sentiments

Looks really sleek. Thanks, as always, for the daily dish of Broncos news!

Lady, you want me to answer you if this old airplane is safe to fly? Just how in the world do you think it got to be this old?

If anyone is interested

I pulled up some stats on the ILB that SD just cut Matt Wilhelm. Last year he played in all 16 games and had 51 Tackles(41 solo), 1 INT and 2 Pass/Def.
He had a career year in 2007; 97 Tackles (74solo), 1 Sack, 3 INT, and 4 Pass/Def

The thing to keep in mind, is that SD had a terrific Defense that year, and there were other stellar players on that team. The other Lb stats that year:
Shawne Merriman 68Tack, 12.5 SK, 2 FF, 5 PD
Shaun Phillips 68Tack ,8.5 SK, 2 INT, 1 TD, 3 FF, 5 PD
Stephen Cooper 108Tack, 2 SK , 2 INT, 2 FF, 6 PD

Just saying, it doesn’t appear that he would be worth taking a look at for the Broncos.
Thanks Nyc
and Nice job Cali!

Thanks NYC...

Think our LB’s, in particular, DJ, are going to make some big plays this year!

Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

Everybody ought to like seeing John...

And KO is picked to surprise the world…

Nice.

Charles Davis is awesome.

He seems like the only guy that legitimately does any research. I’m not just saying that because he picked Orton either. He’s always struck me as a guy that knows what he’s talking about when all the other’s don’t have a clue.

Great new logo, too – thanks, Joe!

Thanks NYC!

I almost fell out of my chair when I heard Charles Davis pick KO as his breakout player of the year. I was happy to hear a NFLTA analyst have a positive, reasoned analysis on KO and by extension the Broncos. I’m so used to the constant Bronco bashing on NFLTA that my brain had trouble processing a positive comment.
