As the offseason continues to drag on, MSM reporters try and conjure up entertaining stories to get the fans talking about, oftentimes, meaningless speculation, and players gear up for the new season, I am left in a state of longing and depression. It seems like it has been forever since we last enjoyed a pleasant sunday afternoon full of football. Almost long enough, that I seem to forget what it all feels like. What do I do on a sunday that makes the day so special and enjoyable? Sure, I watch television on other days of the week, but nothing compares to a sunday of football.
My typical sunday starts with waking up and going to church. I then come home where the first thing that is touched is the remote. It goes immediately to the pregame show. The computer is then fired up so that I can complete any last minute fantasy adjustments. The first slate of games comes up. BENGALS!!!!!!!!! Snore. Luckily, there are other games on, thanks to the ticket. Hopefully there is an enjoyable game on during the early games, otherwise, maybe I will have to switch to NASCAR.
Then.....................the Broncos game is on. How exciting. I have the lucky jersey on. It can be changed later if the team is doing poorly. I always sit on the same edge of the couch. The remote is on the coffee table and the water bottle is in my right hand. KICKOFF!!!!!! My eyes widen as the ball goes in the air and falls gracefully into the returners arms. They widen even more as the returner flies up the sideline and is destroyed by a tackler.
The game goes on and everyone in the room is not allowed to say anything unrelated to the game. Talk about your sick cousin or divorced parents some other time. Sundays are for football. Until the final whistle blows, the broncos are the center of attention. To me, the broncos are like the bonfire for Bear Grylls, it is near impossible to survive without it. Sure, it may be possible to live on, but it is very uncomfortable and I would rather die.
I long for those sunday afternoons. With us only being in July, in the middle of minicamps and preseason, those sundays look so far away. However, soon enough, we will all have our places on the couch, jerseys on, eyes wide, mouths shut..... watching the Broncos. Oh, how I long for those sundays.
