Jarvis Moss considering retirement
Jarvis Moss missed today's workout for reasons Josh McDaniels described as "Very Personal". According to KDVR, those personal reasons could mean the end of Moss' career as the 3rd year player is reportedly considering retirement....
More to come.

Wow thats definately unexpected. I think this morning i read his comments in some article about how he enjoyed making plays when dropping back in coverage. This question just came up to me though: does this meab he would have to pay back part of his signing bonusses?

Retirement means something else in todays NFL
Hello Hello Hello,
It’s been awhile since I’ve written on the site because I’ve been moving to NC all summer, but Training Camp has brought me back! Woot! Yea for football season!
I’m not too worried right now. It’s just a rumor and in today’s NFL, where guys like Favre and Mason can retire and unretire at will, I don’t think it means a whole lot.
Yea but...
Farve and Mason are established… quality veterans who could easily find a starting place on an NFL team. Moss, so far, has had a hard time even making it on the field. If Moss pulls the plug right now, it would be hard for me to see him coming back and finding a place to play.
It sounds like there is some “Deeper Issues” here with him. I just hope he is doing ok and thinking clearly about what lies a head for him and his career.

So his contract comes off the books?
Great. Let’s distance ourselves from one of the biggest draft blunders in our history. Does anyone else still truly believe this guy is going to be any kind of a significant contributor, even with his switch to 3-4 LB? Let him do what he’s gotta do.
Denver Post (almost) confirms
DP blog by Jeff Legwold says Moss is “taking some time away”

Let’s hope everything is ok, for Jarvis’ sake.
Another one of the former regimes AWESOME draft picks...
A skinny talk guy to play DE in a 4-3…..what am I missing? Was it ever a fit?
I almost feel sorry for him….what would have happened if he was drafted to a 3-4 team where he was a fit….could have been a different story for him.
Sucks for the kid!

+!
You have to give him credit for always handling his situation with class. Bad fit, bad luck…but always an upstanding attituted. I wish him well.

2006:
Cutler, Marshall = Pro Bowlers
Elvis, Scheffler, Kuper = solid starters
2007
Harris = future Pro Bowler
Thomas = starter
Moss and Crowder = Busts
2008
Clady = Hall of Fame type talent
Royal = mega-stud
Hillis = All Pro potential at FB
Jack Williams, Torain, Barrett, Woodyard, Larsen all looking good to make the 2009 and contribute.
I’d say Shanny did a pretty damn good job in the last three years and it’s not like he had Top 10 draft picks or early picks in each round with which to do so. It’s the 2006 and 2008 drafts that give me my only hope Denver does not go 2-14 under the Coach.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.
Well, if you consider THE WHOLE picture, not just recently...
Mike Shanahan’s drafts have been pathetic. Remember Maurice Clarett?
Between 1999 and 2006 there were 63 players drafted, and only 3 of them are still with the team. How do you build a team on that?
I didn’t count 06-08 because all of those guys are still in their rookie contracts.
Peyton Hillis is also referred to in early Greek mythology by his other names such as Zeus or Poseidon.
Problem is...
you cannot, CANNOT miss with first rounders, ESPECIALLY when you trade up for them. Add the fact that if Crowder flames out it would be a first AND second rounder from 2007 and you have serious problems.
Again, everyone will selectively place blame or give credit for where the Broncos end up. In your case, it seems if the Broncos do well it is because of the talent Shanny left McDaniels. If the Broncos struggle, its because of McDaniels.
I can’t, however, consider a draft ‘good’ when the first two picks are complete busts…

McGeorge, it is always about personalities instead of team with you! Shanny does this and therefore he’s the greatest ever. McD does that and whatever “that” was or whether “that” really happened or not he’s the worst ever and we’ll do well to reach 2-14.
John, it’s just the odds sometimes. If 50% of 1st rounders bust, then maybe it’s just another one of our turns. Awfully bad.
PS: Anyone out there ever been married and then divorced? Did you think you made a bad decision at the time when you said “I Do.”
To add to your point John:
All the puzzle pieces would be a mess on the table until someone puts them together. So whether or not “Shanny’s guys” succeed is irrelevant because it will be in JOSH MCDANIELS’ system that they do or don’t. You can troll on about how “those guys were Shanny’s guys” but the bottom line is this: Unless you have a coach that puts those guys to good use and produces with those guys, it really doesn’t matter whose guys they are. They are all Denver Broncos at the end of the day. Period.
Peyton Hillis is also referred to in early Greek mythology by his other names such as Zeus or Poseidon.
Lot of offensive names on that list, McGeorge.
Defensively, you have Larsen, Barrett, and Williams as draft picks, and Woodyard as an undrafted free agent. Fortunately, I think Crowder sticks. So there’s one more.
I like those guys, but that’s simply not enough. Add in that Shanahan opted for Webster over Woodyard — supposed based on who was playing better — and it is fair to question his skills at judging defensive talent.
Question: could Moss be down because of his early spot on the unofficial camp depth chart?
Another +1. I hate to pile on, but....
….another GREAT pick by Shanny’s regime….
One CANNOT miss with 1st rounders! Heck, an argument can be made for rounds 1-4 even. The salary cap and just the way the NFL works demands that teams have very successful drafts in order to not just compete, but to contend for championships.

Moss' Future
I really have to say that I feel for the guy. His career in the NFL has been pretty much sour grapes from the get go. Being a first round draft pick he had all the expectations in the world and right off the bat he gets injured and misses most of his first year. Second year he is playing catch up and can’t break into the starting line up of a horrible defense. Then his third year he has to pick up and entirely new defense and position only to be a long shot to make a team. If that has discouraged him to the point of retirement then maybe it’s best he does. With so many obstacles he couldn’t control in his NFL career maybe retiring is the only thing in his NFL career that he can control.
I was thinking pretty much
the same thing T_Hizzle, but ofcourse
I believe you said it much better.
You gotta really know, he has heard it all.
A lot of pressure to perform.
I wish him the best, for what ever road
he chooses to travel…

This is my fault
He read my comment yesterday that he didn’t look good and decided that it was time to consider another future. I take full responsibility =(
I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.
Moss won't be missed
Unfortunately, Jarvis was not a impact player for Denver. I would say that he wasn’t even marginal. I can’t recall his play at any given time that he was an asset to the Defensive Line. No impact while he was here, equals no impact to the team with him gone. Plain and simple. I wish him luck. Hopefully the Broncos can find a player to fill his slot.
(And yes, I knew he was injured much of his rookie season, but please don’t defend what he didn’t or couldn’t do)
