Not really any surprises. Not sure about Haggen as the starter, but OLB is certainly up for grabs and Ayres was late to camp.

I’m not to sure about Powell or C Jackson making the final roster. Crowder and Moss are both 3rd team.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

Some thoughts...

I think Haggen got the spot because there was some “dragging” going on with some LBs. I don’t think he’ll keep the spot either.

I’ve heard nothing but positives about Crowder (which surprised me), so he might have a good shot after all.

Interesting

that Baker is ahead of Powell. Not surprising maybe, but good for the UFA.

er, UDFA. Whatever. : /

Powell has the same NFL experience as Baker and a year of rust to knock off.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

Carlton was also a draft pick, #148 overall. Many have suggested Baker would have been drafted 2nd or 3rd round if not for the murky controversy at Penn State.

Good Point

Isn’t Baker a little bigger than Powell?

by MacGuffin on Aug 10, 2009 4:30 PM MDT up reply actions

Yes

Powell is 6’2, 312, and Baker is 6’2, 330

Time to make the donuts! : )

Love Royal, would HATE to see him on return duty for the special teams. He got hurt there last season and he is far too valuable to lose due to a special teams play. There should be other guys that can return the ball well enough to allow Eddie to focus on becoming the star WR he is destined to be.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

by McGeorge on Aug 10, 2009 3:14 PM MDT up reply actions

amen to that!

I find it funny...

Marshall is starting off this year as a backup. Understandable because of his prolonging injuries(that of which I think aren’t fully the problem) and his off the field issues.

But I still find it funny!

by Broncs55 on Aug 10, 2009 3:19 PM MDT reply actions

One more thing

Dawkins (my fav. player ever) is also out with injury, but he’s got the #1 slot at Safety lol

by Broncs55 on Aug 10, 2009 3:19 PM MDT up reply actions

He may have broken his hand

but he can still bring the FUNK.

I think Dawkins brings a different kind of funk than I do

I brought the funk when sitting next to my wife on the couch tonight. She tole me I’m nasty though and got up and sat elsewhere. lol

I see 3 things happening:

Moreno blasts up to number one within 2 weeks.

Marshall stays on second squad until AFTER his court date, and possibly further than that.

Robert Ayers steps up big time and puts a fight on for the starting job.

Peyton Hillis is also referred to in early Greek mythology by his other names such as Zeus or Poseidon.

Check out the pronunciation guide at the bottom

I love how Wesley Woodyard’s name is spelled out for pronunciation. What a waste of time.

hmm

I typically say “wood-yerd” to be honest =/

by Todd Jewell on Aug 10, 2009 3:41 PM MDT up reply actions

Some folks pronounce it Woodard...

…like the famous Washington Post journalist. In fact, I did for awhile, until I realized it was Wood’Y’ard. At least by giving the guide, sloppy broadcasters have no excuses.

HT, others?

What is the diff between the LDE and RDE for us considering our RDE looks a lot more “deep”? Can there really be that big of a diff that would have LDE w/ 2 players and RDE with 5?

by Todd Jewell on Aug 10, 2009 3:45 PM MDT reply actions

The difference...

DEs that tend to be better at stopping the run generaly get preference for LDE, while players that pass rush better generaly get preference at RDE.

You’ll notice this pattern not only at DE, but often at OLB (when the SS is used to cover TEs. If the SS plays deep zone, the LOLB may be used to cover the TE, or to stop the run in run focused defenses). But the rule is much more indicative when applied to the DEs.

a little ballast for our heads

nicely stated by the DP.

You Can't really read into the first depth chart

Its still to early to see who starts. The depth chart before the 3rd preseason game is the most important. I think they should list Hillis at FB because he is an all around player and really is not just a RB. A couple of things I see happening. Also who is matthew willis lol.

1.Moreno, Hillis & Torain raise up the depth charts. I think buck and jordan were put there because they are the vets. The young guys have a lot more talent.

2. Our starting OLB opening day will be DOOM and Ayers. Ayers is just too talented to not start. There is no way Haggan is starting opening day

3. I think Thomas beats our Mcbean to start

I would like to see Mckinley and C Jackson get some time at KR and PR. I can not wait till Friday to see all these players in action

Just a Thought on Crowder

If he makes the team AND gets to play some – I wonder if there will be a rebirth of “Crowder’s Critters”?

How’s that for showing my age?

by ArtfulDodger on Aug 10, 2009 6:19 PM MDT reply actions

Woodyard

Maybe some idiot wants to pronounce it “WOODY-ARD”.

Dumb.

by ArtfulDodger on Aug 10, 2009 6:20 PM MDT reply actions

Whats so dumb?

I pronounce it "Woody-Ard!

Just kidding – I was laughing when I saw that pronunciation on there though!
