Can Tom Brady win in the NFL?
Just some quick observations. I watched a few of the highlights of Tom Brady tonight in his return to the NFL. There were a few passes that since I'm a Broncos fan I would have definitely booed him ;-) He shouldn't have even been on the field.
One was just a short 10 yard pass that looked completely weak. The ball limped to his receiver and fell lamely incomplete. Another one was a long ball attempt that was a duck. Not sure it traveled 40 yards. It ended up being intercepted. Only 10 completions for the night and he played much of the game I understand.
Maybe it's just me but unless you have a QB with a cannon arm you can't win in this league. Tom definitely looked like a guy who can't make all the throws he needs to in this league.

Glad you brought it up ;-)
Honestly Tom Brady’s one of the first guys I think about every time someone throws out the "franchise QB’ thing.
Brady was an absolute NOBODY until he led the Pats to their first Super Bowl win. In fact he probably had less attention paid to him than Orton has this offseason.
Apparently a guy who’s got limited mobility, relies primarily on his brain and throws it to the open man can be somewhat successful in the NFL…

Well.....
Brady was an absolute NOBODY until he led the Pats to their first Super Bowl win.
…..he did have only one prior year in the NFL.
He felt like the man who drew the first circle. Perfect, and complete.

Interesting point
I’m not so sure about the nobody issue. Yes, he was a 6th round draft pick, and yes, he came into NE 4th on the depth chart at QB. However – he worked like a machine, to the point where they had to get him his own key to the training complex, since he would arrive before the janitors and turned the lights out when he left. He honed his craft by incessant effort.
I may just be getting too narrow a focus here, but I see a considerable difference between being a nobody and not having your skills properly scouted. After all, being the QB for a major national college program isn’t exactly an every day achievement. Brady is very talented and has also worked hard to perfect his abilities. He comes from a solid program and has achieved at every level he’s played in.

I should clear up what I meant...
it was not intended as a slight to Brady, quite the opposite. But Brady came into the NFL with around the same amount of fanfare as Orton, and has reached his current status through hard work, intelligence, and a true understanding of the game. Before he led the Pats to their Super Bowl win, nobody was even thinking of calling him a “franchise QB” or anything of the like.

Yes
I figured out it was a tongue in cheek thing after my comment (same for ksondere’s original post). I can be a bit slow on the uptake sometimes – it happens after 63 trips around the sun.

Only took me 40 trips to get to that point
…no actually I think I was pretty much there after 10 or 15. ;-)

Not sure how he will do now that Josh isn't there,
but if I had to take a wild guess I’d say he will be just fine. He’s just a little rusty after the layoff

First Preseason Game?
You’re already saying he can’t make it in the NFL after his first game. Tom Brady is a warrior. He’s never had the strongest arm and the guy has been out for awhile. He just needs some practice and to get his timing down with his receivers. You can be successful in this league without a cannon. Just have to play smart/balanced football like they have in New England. I’m sure he’ll be fine without McDaniels there too. Remember Tom had already won a Super Bowl without him.

I think the author was poking a little fun
and not at Brady. Just the pundits that think arm strength is everything. Not everything written is completely serious. Lighten up.

I guess I didn’t catch the sarcastic tone of his writing…my bad

Hey T_Hizzle
ksondere wasn’t attacking Tom Brady’s performance, he was just comparing Orton and Brady. Orton and Brady are VERY similiar QBs and if Brady can win in NE, why can’t Orton win in Denver.

Or Ryan Leaf...
I hear he’s got quite the cannon on him.

I heard a rumor back in the day...
that the San Diego Chargers were so concerned about getting Ryan Leaf that they considered trading picks with Indy to be sure they got him.

YA!
That New England style of football is so lame overall!
I mean weak armed QBs. I mean they had to get major plays on special teams in order to earn an early 21 – 9 lead. ( Or whatever it was)
Don’t they know that special teams is like only 1/7 of the game and should be completely ignored. Like you pointed out too, throwing a pick…sheesh. Ridiculous.
Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

Total Bum
That pick by Sheldon Brown, when Brady didn’t properly set his feet, why I’d be humiliated to even live on the eastern seaboard over that. I’m pretty sure that moonshot drew rain.
The Pats are a clearly a laughing stock and Belichick is way over his head trying to win with that noodle armed loser. I heard he didn’t even play football for at least a year because he was jet-setting with babes and drinking and stuff. LOL. Ha Ha.
It makes me sick. I’m humiliated for Patriot fans because they are too stupid to know that Brady is slowfooted and ponderous and has a 1/1000th of the arm of Drew Bledsoe. And it was clear that everybody hates Belichick, cuz he tries too hard to be in charge, likes he’s the boss of the Patriots or something. I mean Adelius Thomas doesn’t have to put up with that crap and I wouldn’t blame him if he just cried and made them trade him to New Orleans.
I’m glad I’m not a Patriot fan is all I can say.

LMAO! I love it...
Yeah that Brady guy…..what kind of nut thinks a cerebral QB can make it in the NFL?

T Brady
Tom Brady may not have a cannon for an arm like ahh that guy for the Bears…but he has the hardware to prove he belongs in the NFL. Joe Montana didn’t have a rocket arm either and is in the hall of fame. I think that the QB position requires a lot more that athletic ability…you got to understand the game, the system you play in and be a great leader…..Just ask Jeff George…….

LMAO
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

Not to bring any seriousness to this post, BUT
What exactly has Carson Palmer done since he had a similar injury that Brady had? Just curious…

#1: for instance he eatch Chode Ochoson (next progression) run around with a HOF 20xx jacket on.
#2: he got to laugh @ half the team in the slammer every year.
#3: he had plenty of AA material to read that was left around the locker room
