There is four more weeks to get the O straightened out. And it will take a lot of work on our QB. The rest of the O looks pretty good. O-line and WRs look fine and Moreno looked good too.

QB play was terrible and teams with bad QB play lose far more games than they win.

Orton looked great except on the picks. I know I sound like an apologist, but it’s the FIRST F*****G GAME OF THE F*****G PRESEASON. You’re going to base your opinion of the player on THAT? Get over yourself, tool.

Okay. Orton looked F*ing great, F*ing awesome really. 32 QB rating and three picks in one half. F*ing awesome. Esp the last pick, which was a weak deep pass.

Does that make you feel better.

by McGeorge on Aug 14, 2009 9:41 PM MDT up reply actions

This is a completely NEW offense

I do not expect him to be great in the first preseason game in a brand NEW system. Orton ran the system well, connected on some good throws and made a few bad decisions. It is not time to say he sucks like you did. That is jumping to conclusions before you let everything play out. By no means has he looked perfect but he has not been horrible either. He has looked good and bad. You are being completely NIAVE saying he has looked completely horrible

by gnarlybroncodude on Aug 14, 2009 9:45 PM MDT up reply actions

No.

Now you’re being a baby. I say grow up, and learn to accept that there is still a MONTH before the season starts for Orton to work on this and get better. Am I worried? Yeah, a little. But I’m not going to go all “woe is us” and post it all over the interwebs like you, tool.

by papigrande on Aug 14, 2009 9:31 PM MDT up reply actions

I think you miss the picture McGeorge

You are already cutting Orton’s throat based upon the 1st half of the 1st pre-season game. Do you understand offense? This is entirely new to him and his receivers. How do you know that the receivers didn’t run the wrong routes? Do you know? Really? Come on . . . any knowledgeable football fan knows that the offense takes time to master . . . even Shanahan says it takes at least 3 years for a QB in his system to see success. Give it break!

This is from the last thread and got cut off, but it still applies here....

But….

McGeorge thinks Peterson and McBean look good, but, shockingly, has a douche bag comment for someone who even attempts a dialogue with him and offers an opinion about another playing doing well that he disagrees with (which was about Fields, not Orton). I know, I know… McGeorge disagreeing with a positive comment….what a shocker.

And then offers up more a-hole sarcasm below.

I was missing Bubby after the 3rd pick. That was a horrible pass. Weak arm that I fear.

It’s not like Orton was under pressure. I thought he threw off his back foot too much. His arm is too weak not to push off his back foot better.

But I’m sure you’ll find away to make communication and learning seem like a problem.

it's a little disheartening, for sure.

But I believe that we will learn from it and get better because of it. At the very least, let’s just be thankful that it’s the first preseason game and not our opener against Cincy. There is still time folks. I for one am not going to jump ship because of three interceptions. The rest of the team looks pretty solid to me, which is something to be happy about.

Take my advice, I'm not using it !!!

holding the line well, I know one of the “big” runs was DJ hopping into the gap right behind Fields instead of the gap the run went to.

by poorboywilly on Aug 14, 2009 9:31 PM MDT up reply actions

I am extremely impressed

They are getting pressure on the QB and collapsing the pocket. Run D has been stout. Fields looks like he can definitely handle the double team. I am pleased with his performance. If Baker shows to be just as stout, we will have 2 solid NT’s. Makes me very happy.

I’ve calmed down. I remember one preseason with Cutler we looked fantastic and then the regular season came and we were pretty average. It’s good to get these flaws worked out now rather than later.

Here's to a completely defensive draft besides Knowshon Moreno!

Sorry....

but given the 2nd/3rd string he’s going against, it being game 1 of the preseason, and Orton’s history, I’m still with Orton. But Simms has looked decent.

The back-up QB is the most popular player on many teams. Its easy to believe the best QB is the one not playing against teh first string.

Purely on arm strength

Orton hasn’t really outplayed him in camp from what I’ve read, and there is no one who questions that Simms has the stronger arm.
