Hey guys! Bucs fan here! (little input on Simms)
hey guys, this is Rjblitz02 coming in from www.bucem.com
As a die-hard Bucs fan, i would recommend Chris Simms as starter hands down. When he played for us, he played for a stupid west coast system, and was constantly dogged by coach Jon Gruden. (and you know how the QB situation goes for Gruden).
When i watched Simms play, i really thought he was our franchise quarterback :( . That lefty had a laser arm, and stood firm in the pocket. THAT BOY CAN THROW. Then he had that horrible spleen injury, which officially kicked him off our roster. In my opinion, he can take the spot Cutler left to fill. Not the bit&hy attitude part, but i believe he is a terrific quarterback, with great pocket presence.
Orton threw 3 INT's in one half of play...against the 49ers...(wooh?)
You pick. Hopefully Mcdaniels won't mess up this quarterback decision.

Good luck this season Denver Broncos, and please please please give Simms this opportunity to start!
GO BUCS!!!!

Woe not so fast
I lived in Tampa Bay from 2001-2006 and just move back from my stint in Chicago. Simms was playing against 2nd and 3rd string players. Who ever is our quarterback will need to earn it.

i guess we’ll see what he can do next week.

but he was also playing with 2nd and 3rd string offensive players, and they looked credible

Our offense has depth.
Simms was playing alongside Hillis. He’s NOT a second-class citizen.

Good point, Harv
I noticed during the game that some of our O line, such as Steiger and Polumbus, could start on some other teams. Some of our receivers – I’m specifically thinking Swift – are very good as well. Hillis’ skill as a starter pretty much should go without mention. Putzier stepped up nicely for the contest. The same was true on the 49ers. Some of the 2nd and 3rd string on both teams, although often dismissed as less than important, will be starters and even stars when the season ends. They aren’t as used to working/playing together, but they did an admirable job, Simms included.
Look at the job Larsen did at ILB. He might take the starting job from A. Davis if Davis isn’t careful. Wesley Woodyard could start on a lot of teams and showed why on Friday. Baker looks to be a young force at NT. There were a lot of others who impressed me, for their 1st preseason game. In the NFL, as SWG has often pointed out, it’s the ability of your worst players, rather than your best, that often determines the outcome of a game. Watching our ‘2nd stringers’ gave me a lot of confidence in our squad.

I completely agree, Bear.
I was impressed with both teams. I was a little jealous we let go of Bly, knowing what I do now about how the secondary play off each other. You are right… Putzier, Larsen, Woodyard, especially the latter 2, were proven playmakers in the absence of starters last season. I desperately want to see Woodyard in the mix this season in a big way. I’m still getting used to the role of NT, but it does sound like Baker is doing alright. I rather enjoyed the game, because it was my first preseason to actually know what to look for, and not having to worry about mistakes like those pesky INTs made the game very fun to watch. I’m excited!

Neither will start the season
Tom Brandsater(or W/E his name is) will start, go undefeated, win MVP in Regular season and the superbowl then (takes another huff of paint) do it all over again next season and the season after that.

Not sure I could do that in Madden
Even with infinite rewinds!

Simms
I watched Simms carefully during the 49’s game and had these impressions:
- Yes. He CAN throw. But it looks like he winds up a lot before he releases the ball. His lack of a quick release may be a problem. I think he needs to spend some time with his mechanics.
- He looks small on the field. Maybe he needs to spend more time lifting weights?
- The play calls were less complicated when he was on the field.
- A couple of throws should have been caught. I wonder if the leftie spin on the ball affected the receivers?
In sum, I like Simms. I can see why he is the second highest paid backup QB in the league.

I like Simms...
- Would love to see him against a top tier defense when real pressure comes… I’m more happy that he looks like he’s made the long road back (mentally and physically) from his injury.
- Height: 6-4 Weight: 220. He’s plenty tall enough, just a smaller frame (reminds me of Plummer’s stature who was 2" shorter)
- Agreed…
- Perhaps….although I expect the WRs to adjust…
That being said, let’s hope Orton and Simms continue to develop in this offense and remain healthy! :)

I also like that Simms is mobile in the pocket..

Patience
The QB situation will probably need 2-3 months to sort out. If neither is the long term answer then we will need even more patience with TB or someone who is in college right now. The rebuilding process does not favor shortcuts but if the staff can build and execute a long term strategy then we will once again become a feared team.
I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.
