signed speedster RB Marcus Thigpen
The Broncos added another RB to bolster depth at a position that's been thin because of the waiver of Torain and the injury to Moreno in the opening game.
I wanted to post something on Thigpen because I think he's an interesting talent. I won't attempt to research him at this time but I recall reading about him in my pre-draft analysis. Please add any information you may have on him since this is quick, informal post.
Thigpen belongs on my list of darkhorse roster surprises.
Here's why he could make roster:
- Speed, speed, speed. The one thing we lack at RB is a speed back and he could give that to us.
- Return ability; he was one top the top return specialists in the draft and there a signs that they're still looking for a returner. My recollection is that he had a number of returns for touchdowns in the junior year but came back to earth in his senior year.
- A good third down back like Arrington, whose position we never quite filled after he was released.
- Receiving ability. Indiana tried to convert him into a WR and he has quite a few receptions for his career.
The bottom line is he fits our needs in a number of ways, and he'd also be a very good choice for the practice squad, too. (BTW - those of you who liked the idea of Alridge will like this guy)

Interesting
5’9", 193 pounds. Also a sprinter in college. 4.47 40. Projected to go in the fifth to 6th rounds, apparently undrafted. Here’s a more direct link to the same place linked above:

Was originally signed by the Eagles
Was cut ~ August 4th (last paragraph here) to make room for other signings.
Of some note is that he was previewed on the Eagles’ site as a receiver.

Wiki and Roto World don't have much
But NFL Draft Scout has a lot of info here.

wow.....amazing speed
McD could put up some TDs if this guy can just play a little football….great potential….I like the Sproles analogy

He's a ST guy.... More like our old "quick six" Anthony Alridge!
Great return specialist and keeps the regulars out of harms way. I really like this hybrid guy.

Could surprise!
First things first; not as fast as Anthony Alridge but much stronger and should be more durable player who could can play special teams on KO returns. A. Smith is a lock at PR’s but is it possible we could find a guy this week as many are saying another Sproles? Also could be used on 3rd down situations either at RB or WR hmmmm “versatile” one of McD’s prerequisites for making the team. Hopefully he will be playing on special teams against Seahawks….

chances
He’s a longshot to make the roster but he fills a role. He’s the type of player we’ve needed but that doesn’t mean he’s the quality of player we needed.
Being the right type should enhance his chances though.
His speed isn’t as good as Alridge’s but very, very few players are that fast. His skill as a returner probably exceeds Alridge’s. His junior season has people wondering if he was the next great KR; his senior year didn’t.

The overall level of talent
& versatility on the roster continues to rise. Thanks for the background info on this latest acquisition. Rec’d.

I want to thank you oc60.
You may not realize just how much help you provide to people like me whose internet skills are… limited. I probably would never have been able to find this on my own, or if I could have, it would have taken wat too much of my time.
So once again, thank you..
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!

FYI
The DB site has him listed as Marcus Thomas #29, also, it follows that he is listed the same on the roster on the left side of this site page. I noticed this when I looked for Le Kevin Smith’s number on the roster.

Marcus Thomas is another RB we signed
This makes 3 marcus’s on the roster…

OK
I thought it might be a typo.

And some Brandons
Marshall, Lloyd, Stokely, Gorin…
Interesting quote on the kid Thigpen, taken from denverbroncos.com:
During his four-year tenure with the Hoosiers, Thigpen became the first player in school history with more than 1,000 career rushing yards, receiving yards and kickoff return yards.

We also have 4 Mc's on the roster (McBean, McBath, McChesney, and McKinley)
Coincidence? I think not. What is McD up to??

Its all about flexibility.
Can you play two or more positions?
Can you change your playing style merely by moving around on the filed ala moving from HB to WR position).
Can you use equipment with someone else’s name or initials on it and it still be your name or initials?
Can the coaches call out five first names and have an entire 11-on-11 scrimage set-up?
McDaniels has it ALL figured out.
