The Number 27

Though I have been lurking a while and have said a couple comments, this is my first fan-post, so go easy on me...

I noticed during Friday's game that Moreno was wearing the number 27.  I am just curious to know if anyone else finds this distasteful and/or disrespectful to the memory of Darrent Williams.  I understand that the number is not retired, so technically, Moreno has every right to select that number.  Does this bother any one else?

I appreciate your comments and feedback.

EDIT: thanks for the comments gently correcting my ignorance.  The poll has been updated accordingly.

Maybe the number should be retired, but Moreno is not wrong for choosing it.

Since Moreno asked William's family for permission, this is a classy move.

Apparently you didn't hear

Moreno checked with DWs family and got their approval before asking for that number. There is nothing disrespectful about it. He is honoring DW and I believe they came from the same school.

Maybe you could amend your poll to include an option:

He asked DW’s Mom, so it’s a classy way to honor Williams

IMHO

it is just a number. Darrent was the man behind the number for his time with the Broncos. He should be remembered for who he was and what he did, not for what number he wore.

On a side note, I really don’t get into this retiring numbers things. It is at the end of the day just a number.

I agree

Honoring a player and a number is fine, but retire a number and you soon run out of numbers, or you create such a high requisite that few players can attain that level. The Broncos have had too many players in their history to shun any of them IMO.

Steve Atwater

This is and has been Steve Atwaters number. As much as I felt for Dwill’s tragic end of his life he wore the number for only 2 seasons. If it should be retired it should be for the smilin assain. While I give kudos to KM for asking Dwills mom permission, I dont think it was warranted. Have some of us forgot what Atwater brought to that number? He has a HUGE SB XXXII and was probably a pick away from being Co-MVP in that game

somethings wrong, Trying to conquer these fears i thought were gone. And it's been so long, I'm dying to live in a world i don't belong

I certainly haven't

Atwater was just a marvelous and brutal player……But, I’m still not for retiring numbers……

Maybe #27 could become

the Broncos version of the USS Enterprise.

I’ve heard it said that the US Navy will always have an Enterprise in service.

Although,

the Navy’s version will turn 50 in a couple of years and they should retire it……….

My guess is they'll retire the ship

then christen another one with the same name
