Madden 10 Roster Update: Broncos get some updates

I know this probably means absolutely nothing, but I think it's a nice sign nevertheless.  The folks at EA Sports released the second roster update since the release of Madden 10 today and here are some details of the update...  On the ratings front it seems a lot of Broncos were included:

Ratings Adjustments
Chris Simms – 70 OVR (was 68)….+2
Kyle Orton – 73 OVR (was 74)….-1

David Harris – 79 OVR (was 74)….+5
Aaron Brown – 67 OVR (was 64)…+3
Haloti Ngata – 92 OVR (was 90)…+2
Kelly Gregg – 83 OVR (was 77)…+6…(Gregg recently named Top 10 Overall DT in NFL according to Scouts Inc. – #8 overall.)
Darren Sproles – 83 OVR (was 85)….-2
Leon Washington – 80 OVR (was 79)….+1
Ryan Harris – 85 OVR (was 74)…+11…severely underrated OL, Denver actually ranked as #3 and #1 against the run and pass.
Ben Hamilton – 85 OVR (was 81)…+4…also a big part of that #3 overall Denver OL in 2008
Ryan Clady – 91 OVR (was 90)…+1…see above…some already call him #1 LT in NFL

Looks like some of the boys are starting to get some respect...or maybe the madden team just realized the small mistake they may have made with the Denver O-Line.  Again, although video game ratings are meaningless, I was pleasantly surprised to see a Bronco-heavy change this early on (the fact that rating changes are done in preseason also tells you something about how "meaningful" these updates really are :-/).  I wonder if anyone who has the game has checked out the team as of yet...I'm definitely pleased with how the new defense plays.  It's much improved on the game and the "switch to the 3-4" has been fun.

So it updates weekly?

That’s the one thing I’ve always hated about Madden…the fact that the Summer rankings were always so far off by mid-season…

I use a 4-3 in Madden

If you do that, Doom is an 85 and J Moss is an 82, and the LBs are still decent…just me

SO MUCH

more pressure from the 34 though. I don’t pay ANY attention to ratings. I put players where I think they need to be. My last game I had two pressure-INT’s by D-lineman that resulted in TD’s.

If you have (or anyone) a PS3 just hit me up. grind_core

That is pretty cool if it does that

I have never been really into Madden, however if I was this would be the one to get if it updates every now and then. I wonder if the same thing happens if a player is traded?

Just downloaded mine,

I haven’t checked all of it, but apparently the worst player on the final 53 is Wesley Woodyard. Maybe its just an entry level rating, but come on.

I hope they keep doing these on a weekly basis though, that is a huge improvement over last year.

Woody and McBean weren't even in the game when I got it.

I had to create them myself. Also, Le Kevin Smith is a 50 and why would anyone want Lonie Paxton on a video game?? lol.

No stairway... Denied!

Well

I guess we know McD wasn’t make his personnel decisions while playing Madden like many pundits may believe.

Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

Admitted video game addict here. I love sports games and sims.

My 8-year old son wants Madden for the Wii.

sigh I just might have to get it for “him” and “check it out” for "him.

:)

Go Broncos. Loves me some Madden

The wii version should be great for a kid,

but the sim element has definitely taken a step back towards arcade style.

It is still a lot of fun though. I love the new point and pass system, it makes so much more sense than the ‘remember which receiver corresponds to which button system.’

Glad to see Harris get some love.

But am disapointed Kuper did not get a small raise. In fact I simmed a season a few days ago for test purposes and Kuper’s rating dropped in 2010 (indicating that he has already reached their theoretical maximum). Bit harsh I thought

I think the rest of the Bronco ratings are fair. I’ve found that I can get good productivity out of Orton despite his average rating by keeping deep throws to a minimum and throwing lots of passes out to Moreno and Hillis. Just like in real life hopefully!!

As for the defence then it’s OK – although I’ve had to change sliders to allow a realistic pass rush. Managed to get a lot of sacks out of DJ and Doom with OLB blitzes, but giving up the big play often as well. OK with that – seems pretty realistic.

But the game needs some patching before any more roster updates IMO. Then I can get started properly on franchise.

Thanks for the update – have not downloaded the new roster yet – but will do so tomorrow.

They Must Have

Read the offensive line rankings that had Denver as the best in the league. Even the guy writing it had to preface the ranking by saying “Ya you wouldn’t believe this but…”

Hey, WE already knew that.

I used to work at EA Sports Tiburon

Back in 2002-2004 I worked for Tiburon. I was a Senior Tester/Database Manager guy for NCAA Football, Madden, NASCAR, and a few other games. I was pretty much a low-level manager in the QA dept. We had a couple of Asst Producers who were in charge of the ratings. If you could build a good case about the ratings being off for your favorite team, they would listen and make the change if necessary.

I don’t remember there being any other Broncos fans when I was there (it was a while ago), but my friend Scotty is now running the QA Dept and he’s a huge Faiders fan…..so I am surprised the Broncos got some respect!

funny

you mention that. I read a while back that the up and ups at EA were Raider fans, and it totally makes sense that we’ve always got screwed in Madden. Denver has always been a blast to play with, though. Especially now. I love subbing Hillis in the Gun-Weak at TE and having him wreak havoc on the defense. That guy is unstoppable.

Take my advice, I'm not using it !!!

Two or Three Faiders fans for sure...

I know for sure there are a handful of full-time employee manager types who are Faider fans. It’s been 5 years since I worked there, so who knows who else they got.

Here’s a funny bit of info for you: I was one of the Senior testers on the first NFL Street. They were choosing “playing field” locations, and for the AFC West division, they picked Oakland (of course). But, instead of making it a Hellhole like Oakland is, they had it all beach side and beautiful.

I sent a bug report up to the producers stating that Oakland does not have a “beach” like that and they either need to rename the level to “San Diego” or re-do the entire level in snow and put the Rockies in the background and call it Heaven…er, Denver. I sent them a pic of Oakland’s “beautiful” water front, something like this:

http://mayhem-chaos.net/photoblog/images/oakland_port.jpg

They already made the beach level, so they went with the simple option of renaming it San Diego instead of Oakland. Oh well, I tried. At least it wasn’t Oakland.

hillis is a beast

madden lets 9 people into gang tackles so you can take peyton hillis down

by mast on Aug 20, 2009 6:59 PM MDT up reply actions

"uhm guys.."

“who is the p. hillis #22 guy?” “yeah, uh, no one can tackle him. what are we gonna do?” “i know, we’ll make the WHOLE TEAM tackle him..”

                                    - ea sports madden testers

I’m surprised the gang tackling wasn’t just an option for the Raiders!

Take my advice, I'm not using it !!!

How’d you get involved with that/ first start out with it by the way? If you don’t mind me asking…

by phantom818 on Aug 21, 2009 2:43 PM MDT up reply actions

Has madden fixed the Pocket problem

and lines problems?

Like is there a pocket for the qb to sit in or do you still drop back 20 yards?
How about the pass rush and player blocking ability is that anymore realistic

anyone who ever player allprofootball APF 2k8 you know how much better the game is if theres a pocket and realistic pass rush. The blockings not perfect and defenders and spring off blocks and suddenly dive tackle you but overall the gameplay is much better.

by RiG on Aug 20, 2009 3:34 PM MDT reply actions

from the little time I played it on release night.

There is a much better pocket this time. No more dropping back 15 yards or having to scramble towards the sidelines. Player blocking is also much more realistic as well.

Another change...

Supposedly, passing on the run with a pocket passer drastically lowers the quality of that pass. So if you’ve got Manning or Brady you better plant your feet unless you’ll chuck a duck.

by SinDonor on Aug 20, 2009 3:54 PM MDT up reply actions

Oh yeah.

I found that out the hard way. It’s almost impossible to throw a decent pass while on the move.

Virtual Eddie Royal is a beast

I don’t think I even threw it to Marshall the first couple times I played because Royal was killing people.

by alacy9513 on Aug 20, 2009 3:43 PM MDT reply actions

Exactly.

Marshall is like the 4th or 5th read in my offense. And I use the Gun alot.

Take my advice, I'm not using it !!!

by grind_core on Aug 20, 2009 8:01 PM MDT up reply actions

Well see? There you go :)

At least Marshall is taking up the big time, number one spot so Royal doesn’t have to face as tough coverage and can work some cool routes. :-D Even if we don’t “use” him at least he opens things up for Eddie to be even MORE virtually dominant.

by phantom818 on Aug 21, 2009 2:44 PM MDT up reply actions

great point.

But when he does catch it, the DB’s must be like GREAT. We gotta tackle THAT guy?!?!? WTF. I imagine the same holds true IRL, lol.

Take my advice, I'm not using it !!!
