Bears QB Jay Cutler completes first 12 passes in 7-on-7 drills
Well he did not take long to get comfortable. We miss you JC!
We're keeping an eye on Jay Cutler during his first Bears training camp.
Ho-hum day: Nothing too spectacular from Cutler on Day 3. He completed his first 12 passes during 7-on-7 drills. His first incompletion was an uncharacteristic drop by Matt Forte. Cutler started full-team drills 0-for-3, including a high throw that Devin Hester couldn't quite corral. Cutler completed 18 of 23, by our count.
Wild side: The crowd buzzed as Cutler split out wide left and Hester lined for the direct snap in the "Wildcat" formation. Cutler pretty much stayed out of the way as Hester did his thing.
Lovie-ism: (On the Wildcat) "Jay Cutler's an athlete too. So who knows, we may throw him a pass out there." Smith quickly recanted his statements, saying the Bears wouldn't be throwing to Cutler and that it was a "bad joke." Guess he didn't want to give the Packers advance notice.

Did they have a 3-games-up-3-games-out drill today?
He kind of struggled with that in Denver.

On a serious note...
I think his athleticism and on-field competitiveness was under-utilized here. The guy has wheels and probably could do some damage as a receiver/runner in trick plays. That’ll be interesting to see.

12-for-12? That's all?
Orton went 14-for-14 his first 7-on-7.
But who will guard the guards themselves?

He did make a lot of mistakes here
But remember he was only in his 3rd year. i remember watching Elway grow over the years. Hopefully he has done some growing up. He needed to 4 sure!
These guys are babied most of there life once people realize they are going to be stars.
People live their life through them.

"Scott"...
Nobody cares… We’ve all seen his act, and it played itself out, as it will there too!
Btw, did Urlacher kick Jay’s"Arce" today, that’s what I’m waiting to hear?

Hey yall...
Is that supposed to matter to anyone in Denver?
It is better to keep silent, and appear to be wise, then to ramble on and remove all doubt! The Wisest Man, Solomon.
Matters to me. Matters to a lot of Bronco fans, local media and national media. How Jay does vs How Orton does will be judged for the next few seasons (on a weekly basis). It will be a big story that won’t go away. Be it for good (Denver wins) or bad (we don’t).
How The Coach does vs how Cutler does will also be viewed on a weekly basis.
In the end, this Bronco fan believes the Broncos will miss Jay far more than he misses us in two years time. I’m also on record saying I think the Coach will be an offensive coordinator in the Big Ten or the like by 2012.
And to prove I can be fair… I also read the Cutler tossed a few picks to Zach Bowman in today’s practice. And you Bears fans better get used to some ugly picks with Jay as your QB.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.
McGeorge...
I keep reading your posts and I always manage to keep myself from responding, but this time I really can’t and now I’m going to unload.
To say McDaniels will be heading to the NCAA after three seasons is to compare Mr. Bowen to Al Davis. And that infuriates me. McDaniels is not Lane Kiffin and this is not the Raiders. I think, after however many years you’ve been a Denver fan, you’d have a little more faith in Bowen. I really could care less about your undeserved animosity toward McDaniels. If you want to hold pointless grudges and live in “glass is half empty” land, be my guest, but have some respect for one of the best owners in sports.
And while we’re on the subject I think you’re missing some key facts here.
McDaniels didn’t force Jay out. Jay forced Jay out. And trust me I was irate. But not answering your bosses phone calls, in ANY job, is grounds for dismissal. And that is exactly what happened.
Nobody thinks Orton is more physically gifted than Jay. Or at least no rational football fan. Cutler has freakish ability, and while I think he would have benefited greatly from a QB centric coach, it wasn’t what HE wanted. You can say McDaniels forced him out, but it was Bowen that came out and said Cutler will be traded. And you and everyone else can blame McDaniels, but we all watched it happen.
So what now? You can keep doing what you’re doing and keep up this trivial sixth grade name calling. Or you can suck it up and be a fan.
Because part of being a fan is preparing for the worst, but EXPECTING the best. Its being optimistic and realistic at the same time.
And while you disagree with “The Coach” you can at least try to avoid jabbing at him in every single post you make. Its not constructive.
I mean the man has yet to coach a single game and you’re dictating how his career is going to go with no justification. I’m pretty sure having been the mastermind behind the Patriots record breaking season will probably keep him in the NFL.
Or was he “The Coach” back then, too?
Why couldn't I have been born in Denver?

Give him time...
and McGeorge will poison this site just as he and others have poisoned the DP forums.
Only good thing is that here he can’t give us all anonymous thumbs down.
Incidentally, anybody know how Sage Rosenfels did throwing outs? I’m burning to know.
Dont make this the Denver post :-(
this is my first post although I am a long time reader and a true KOOL AID DRINKER! I love you guys!!
McGeorge, I recognise your negativity from your posts on DP.com. What I love about this site is that it is great information with a positive twist. This is where true Broncos fans come to blog!
The DP and the constant negative comments are where I have seen your anti-Bronco posts for a long time. Forgive me if I am out of line as a new subscriber; however I beg you to leave your negativity back at the DP. That is not what I come here for.
As for your lack of trust in our new coaching staff. I along with most on this site, I believe, am more excited for this season to begin than any I can remember. Maybe since the start of the 97 season.
Anyway… not trying to make enemies, just would be sad to see this site go negative like the DP.

I agree MT
and welcome!
This isn’t a place to denounce the coach for any reason. This is a place to support the Broncos, no matter what.
Peyton Hillis is also referred to in early Greek mythology by his other names such as Zeus or Poseidon.
MT, welcome to MHR!
I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

"We miss you JC"
Barf.
That’s like the loser Raider fans here in LA that still hold the flame for something that [urinated] upon them and their loyalty before taking their act elsewhere.
I do not miss Jay Cutler.
J
Thanks
Thanks for the welcome Cali, and thanks for saying what I really wanted to say ChristianL!
I cant tell you all how excited I am about the McDanial’s regime. But even if I wasnt, as a broncos fan I would still support the moves of the owner who brought us two rings and helped Elway close out his career with back to back superbowl wins. I suppose there were some who questioned Bowlen’s wisdom when he hired a fresh faced inovative coach name Mike Shanahan. Well he wasnt very fresh faced anymore. Now we have the next great offensive mind with a defensive background. Arent you tired of mediocrity McGeorge? I was! Now it seems that we have a fresh, inovative coach that doesnt accept discention and wont accept mediocrity. How can you not be excited and possitive about our Broncos!
Sweet!
Will they be holding a parade in Chicago with Jay Cutler as the grand marshall when they win the Training Camp 7-on-7 Drill Super Bowl and he’s their MVP? That’ll go nicely with his ESPN highlight MVP Award!
I’m starting to think that SBNation needs a new NFL blog just for Jay Cutler so that the bitter Broncos fans and their boastful Bears fans can come together and share in his worship; heck, it’ll be a convenient place for them to comiserate when the hyper-talented yet underwhelming QB fails to lead them to the promised land.
By the way, Cutler’s accomplishments will have to be weighed against McDaniel’s, Orton’s, Ayers and next year’s first round pick, as well as some percentage of Moreno’s, Smith’s and Quinn’s performance; that’s a whole lot of value he’ll have to accrue for me to second guess that trade…

Completed his first 12, eh?
Sounds like the start of most of our games last season: score on the opening drive.
Then score again in late the third quarter.
I've heard that they refer to kids in the last generation as 'trophy kids'
That was said to be due to every child getting a trophy when an event is completed. I don’t have any input on whether that’s good, bad or indifferent, but it comes to mind when someone needs to post an article because an NFL QB completed some passes.
Jay’s a good QB, but this is kind of silly, isn’t it?

Coaching
Cutler did not want to be coached by McD – arguably the best QB coach in the league. He got his wish. Who’s the QB coach in Chicago? Pep Hamilton? LOL! He thought McD lied to him? How about Ron Turner who really did lie to him about his college scholarship? What a sweet deal for Cutler.
Natsayers
like McGeorge and trolls like Scott are really trying to poison this board. I will not go for it.
MHR is a great site with awesome insight and information. As was stated earlier, McGeorge, take your poison back to the DP where it is enjoyed by the people who have nothing better than to find fault with and destroy everything they touch.
I agree with Shawn in that the so-called 12 for 12 was like last seasons games.
Also, please note that Scott never said that Cutler threw a TD in the drill. Could it be a continuation of the “between the 20’s” job he is best known for?
