love how good he looked

love how good he looked setting free that left handed lob right into the hands of a defender. NOT! his concentration seems to wane, was not very efficient with the play clock.

For all the trolls...

Do you REALLY think we’d pass 3 times from the 2 in the regular season? And do you REALLY think Orton would have thrown that pass if it weren’t 4th down?

so far

It looks like the same plays they were running in Thursday’s practice. We should see more TE passes and more Cowbell.

by KaptainKirk on Aug 22, 2009 10:01 PM MDT reply actions

Time for the 2nd string:

-Orton looked much improved, he played well (the int was weird, but Gaffney dropped an easy TD). That is why we need BM, a great WR catches that every time and an average one doesn’t.
-Watch Ryan Harris. He is amazing. Great balance. Love it.
- Prater nailed a long kick
-Lots of sacks, and some good coverage sacks which leads me to
-Goodman looks really good to me, always around the ball. The TDs were great throws, the rest of the time he is a ball hawk.

Bad:
Ayers – I don’t see it at all.
Smith on punt return – needs a lot of work
Three TOs wasted and a delay of game. Josh looks like a rookie coach tonight.

OMG

If this does not remind us of last year. GREAT stats but TURNOVERS. Yes I know Gaffney should have a TD but KO needs to learn if you can not make the play eat the ball at the 4 yard line. An incompletion in endzone is out to the 20. DUMB KO.
My question, whu not run the ball inside the 5? Last week and this week we have an INT.

Play-calling questions?

I just reviewed the first quarter thread after having to be away from the site in order to see the game. It sure seems like a lot of comments questioning the play-calling…… Hey, friends, its preseason; this is assessment time. I am just VERY happy with the overall improvement I see in 1 week against a team I think would easily defeat the 49ers. Lets discuss the play-calling in the regular season… As a second thought, who took the lead out of Lamonts pants this week???? (still not quick, but better)- Well back to the game.

Orton looked really good in the 1st half and we got a bunch more sacks so some pluses.

You have no clue about coaching . . . NONE!

I mean it . . . you have no clue!

McGeorge . . . I try so hard to read what you have to say. Sometimes you make GREAT points. But your knowledge of being a head coach (at ANY level) is embarrassment. I know you don’t like McDaniels. You have made that abuntantly clear. But, PLEASE, stop talking like you know what a head coach is supposed to do . . . . its PRESEASON dude! He is EVALUATING talent . . . not worried about winning MEANINGLESS preseason games. Uggghhhhh!

At the risk of sounding like a troll...

It doesn’t matter what the Bears secondary does, we won’t challenge them. Orton had 182 yards tonight. 127 of them were YAC. One pass attempt over 15 yards and it was almost 10 yards off-target. Celebrate his game tonight all you want, but the guy wasn’t asked to do anything.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and then used against you.

Are you serious?

182 yards is a BAD half? Wow! You must be smoking something illegal.

Did you not pay attention to the Time of Possession? We held the ball 7 minutes LONGER in the 1st half than the Seahawks. 7 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is called ball control offense.

Maybe you don’t understand the concept of the game. It is the offenses job to move the ball, eat the clock, and score. I saw all that tonight from the first team offense. I COULD CARE LESS IF HE THREW IT ONLY 2 YARDS AT A TIME. As a defensive coordinator (which I am) I a loving Orton for his style. My guys stay rested and I can talk with them in detail.

Your hatred of Orton astounds me.

The first team offense moved the ball well, controlled the clock, and scored points. I say that is pretty damn good!

I was not impressed with the defense tonight. 3 sacks is nice . . . but too many missed tackles tonight.

Well here's my take on the game

Orton looked good, feet looked better, had a bounce to his step, looked confident, some good audibles. Int doesnt bother me.

Our o-line could protect our Army, an A+ there

We got some nice sacks, happy there, Coverage sacks and pressure sacks =)

Special teams did great on coverage 1st half
Worried about Ayers progress so far

That is something to feel better about. However our special teams needs some work…..second half just fell apart. You can’t do much if you can’t hold onto the ball.

But again I’m really liking what McD is doing and think we might going into the right direction. we will see a really good team for this year season.

Our first 2 offensive series of the 2nd half were disappointing.

Our first team O couldn’t move the ball against Seattle’s scrubs. Orton’s left-handed pass brought back all the bad memories of Plummer. Overall I can’t say I was impressed. The first couple offensive series were good but that’s about it…Goodman getting used all over the field too, ugh.

Looks like I made the right choice going to see

Inglourious Basterds and then Tivoing the game. ;-)

Fun movie, maybe not the most fun game ever. Watched it about half fast-forwarding… But saw some good stuff. Still rust on the offense side but when first team OL is in their blocking is superb. Looks like there’s still stuff to learn for players involved in the passing game but some good moments. Lovely TD pass. Second (and 3rd?) string OL not as effective, clearly. The defense had its moments, particularly again the 1st string. The secondary contributed to those sacks with terrific coverage at times. They looked worse later but I think that was more the backups.

Clearly they could use Knowshon and yep, Brandon, but since the defense is more what I was worried about coming into the season, their starting D looks a lot better at the basics, tackling and coverage than last year so that’s a good sign. Overall I’d give the O a B- and the D a B+ (again just talking first units here).

And I give Basterds a B+/A-.

The DP made a good point about Orton's night

If Gaffney hadn’t muffed that ball from Orton that went right through his hands at the back of the end zone, it would’ve been a TD and Orton would’ve had a basically perfect night. Instead no TD and then it leads to that errant lefty toss. (Which is on Orton, but still, he should’ve had a TD before it is the point.)
