Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

I'll have a go at this...

Please, be easy on me! I've never done a season prediction before. Mostly because I think they are pointless since there are so many things that go into play that no one can predict (Injuries being the big one). But, I'm going to have a good old college try here. Some things may surprise you, others you'll probably see coming. Check it out.

Week 1 @ Cincinnati: Carson Palmer is back, and Ochocinco is glad to have him. Chris Henry also puts up an impressive performance going up against Goodman most of the game. Andre Goodman is having a hard time finding his stride in the game, but Denver's potent run defense goes to work and our offense manages the clock, and scoring points in the mean time. Win 24-17

Week 2 vs Cleveland: The fans have gained some faith in their home team after winning their last two preseason games at home. Expect the Mile High thunder to be out in full effect as we give our boys a good homecoming. More importantly though, Cleveland's special teams play proves superior to ours as Cribbs brings one back for the score, and gets close on another try. Kyle Orton connects with Eddie Royal once, Stokley once and Knowshon takes the rock twice for a score. Prater also nails one from 55 yards. Cleveland's lackluster coaching and poor QB performance keep them out of the endzone except for Cribbs' play. Win 31-13.

Week 3 @ Oakland: Well, all the usual suspects are here (and I mean suspects). With Tom Cable facing an inevitable suspension from the league, Oakland seems to have nothing figured out on any side of the ball. Nnamdi Asamugha is in full force, but still can't stand up to Brandon Marshall in the one on one. Marshall takes it home for 2 TD's, Gaffney takes a nice third down RZ pass in, and HIllis rocks the house once as well. Prater lands himself 2 more field goals as well. JaMarcuss the hutt actually eats a football in the 3rd quarter. Win 34-7

Week 4 vs Dallas: Dallas is coming into the season with high expectations internally, and Denver's got the world to prove. Expect this to be a tight game. Denver has a hard time establishing the run, making the play action virtually useless. Demarcus Ware has himself a good game, but ultimately gets squashed by Iron Clady's hammerfists. Orton saves the day on a 65 yard (25 through the air) pass to Stokley. Denver fans have full faith in this team, and our secondary picks on Tony Romo three times. Win 14-10.

Week 5 vs New England: Much like it was in the old days, the Boston Patriots suit up in their oldies as do we. The fans eat that stuff up. Tom Brady has a great day through the air, but gets picked on twice (Once by Champ, another by DJ). We keep their run game in check, but Moss and Welker get the best of our secondary. Lose 27-21

Week 6 @ San Diego: Rivers was having a stellar year, putting up Pro Bowl numbers until week 5 when Gates got hurt. He's proven to be a mortal in this game taking 3 sacks and throwing a pick. Our run defense vs their run game turns into a battle on the line. Sproles and his midget legs take them to a close victory, but Dawkins lays out the hobbit. Orton has a decent game, 2 TD's, but he also throws 2 INT's as well. Knowshon wins us the game by racking up 160 yards against Shawn Merriman and his untouchable skill. Nate Kaeding is SD's best weapon this week with 3 field goals. Win 21-16.

Week 7 BYE.

Week 8 @ Baltimore: Bart Scott's absence has taken a toll on Baltimore's run defense. It's no longer impossible to run against the Ravens. Orton recognizes Ed Reed's tendencies and skill and avoids him all day. Reed gets the best of Orton on a sack, but KO still manages 150 yards passing and 1 TD. Knowshon, Hillis and Buck are the stars today with a combined 250 yards on the ground and 2 TD's. Joe Flacco is having a good year, but Derrick Mason is having a hard time getting away from Champ and goes all day with no TD's. Flacco scores one rushing TD--his first of the year. A questionable Late Hit call against us will put Baltimore in position to win the game, but thank God our defense holds stout their kicker had the game day jitters. You can expect Dukes to put his tail between his legs this week while Sapp and Eisen replay clips of the offseason when Dukes was calling us a 3-13 team at best.  Win 24-21

Week 9 vs Pittsburgh: A true classic physical game here. Our pass rush and severely underrated defensive line has their way with Pittsburgh's offensive line causing a painful 4 sacks. Big Ben holds consistent though, as he always does. Pittsburgh's secondary proves to be KO's kryptonite. Polamalu has a good game with 2 INT's. Even Brandon Marshall's physical play isn't enough to hold off the beast of the secondary. Lose 21-7.

Week 10 @ Washington: This game gets ugly fast for Washington. Portis has an unfortunate injury early on and goes out for the game when Fields accidentally lands on his ankle. It is but a flesh wound as they say. Without a dangerous passing game and no real running game, Jason Campbell has a very bad day throwing 3 picks (2 to Dawkins, 1 to Woodyard), and has 0 TD's. Washington's defense is decent, but the 100 million dollar man is having a very hard time getting through the wall that Clady creates. One of the games highlights is when Clady pancakes rich boy, clearing a draw for Hillis to take it 55 yards deep into Washington territory. KO has a career best game throwing 4 TD's, 380 yards passing, with no INT's. Knowshon has a less than great game with only 56 yards on the ground. Win 35-7.

Week 11 vs San Diego: SD comes into Invesco with a point to make and they try all day to establish a passing game. Rivers connects on a couple bombs but one is negated thanks to a dirty clipping call. Still, Rivers is able set up the play action enough to bring SD a "W" this week. Kyle Orton has a performance similar to his Chicago days by managing the ball. He doesn't give the game away, but doesn't pull out a win either. It's a close battle all day, but SD gets the best of us--this time. Lose 17-14 OT.

Week 12 vs New York Giants (Thanksgiving): Eli Manning is here and he's having a hard time finding a number one receiver all year. New York has a one dimension offense and Brandon Jacobs has a good game against us. He runs it 126 yards with 2 TD's. Eli's missing Plax right now though. Kyle Orton comes out dressed as a turkey to start the festivities. Denver fans are ecstatic about being at a game on Turkey Day and the Broncos do not disappoint. KO has a solid game throwing for 270 yards, 3 TD's and one INT. The Giants defensive line holds true to their reputation by holding our running game to an embarrassing 70 yards on the ground. Buck hauls one in for the score though, and we come away with this one. Win 34-17

Week 13 @ KC: Looks like Todd Haley's approach to coaching is taking it's toll on his guys. Dwayne Bowe is virtually non-existent out there and Larry Johnson shows why no one has him as their starter in the fantasy rankings this late in the year. Their offensive line has a hard day's work allowing 3 sacks on Cassel and DJ even forces a fumble on KC's 4 yard line. KO doesn't have a blow out day, but again, he manages the game well and doesn't make mistakes. Win 17-7

Week 14 @ Indianapolis: Peyton Manning is a nominee for MVP honors again this year. His receivers were no names at the beginning of the year, but now everyone knows who they are. Peyton has a great day at Lucas Oil Stadium tossing it up for 274 yards and 3 TD's. Champ has a slow start, but stays consistent in the second half. Indy's run defense is porous, and Moreno, Buck and HIllis take the majority of the work today. KO doesn't toss up any TD's but keeps it at 0 INT's as well. It's a really bland game on all accounts. Lose 21-7.

Week 15 vs Oakland: Eager to get his balls back (as they say), Champ comes out and has an awesome day against the Hutt and nabs himself a pick. Our constant pressure all day keeps Oakland to a pathetic 120 yards total offense. Tom Cable's punishment earlier in the year can't be overcome by the "Raidaz" and we have a field day, making all the fans jump and dance and sing. So this is what the old Mile High felt like? It's been awhile. Win 42-17.

Week 16 @ Philadelphia: Andy Reid is a good coach. He's proven that year in and year out with his consistent teams. Philly is in the top seed of the NFC East and is merely going through the necessary motions to get to the playoffs. Still, the McNabb to Desean Jackson connection runs rampant today, and Michael Vick even makes an appearance running the team in the 4th quarter. Philly wins this one, but it's a great game all around. An astounding number of Philly fans don orange shirts and Dawkins jerseys welcoming their prodigal son home. Dawkins brings a show with him, getting a sack on McNabb and even the Philly fans won't throw snowballs at that. It's a good game, and we keep it close. Lose 31-28.

Week 17 vs KC: Matt Cassel has a hard day in Denver. McDaniels brings a tough game plan in and it's executed almost flawlessly. We end the regular season on a high note by nabbing 2 INT's and getting 3 fumbles on the day. DJ, Doom and Renaldo Hill have a good day, making Scott Pioli and Todd Haley wish Tony Gonzales was still there. We put on a really good game, but KC seems to always have a way to score against us, no matter how bad they are. We win this one, and it's good because the temperature at Invesco today was a blistering 10 degrees. The fans stay warm by cheering and hugging because we just secured a spot in the playoffs. It's been awhile since we last saw the playoffs. We win 31-14.

There's my predictions, 11-5. Let's discuss it.

I love these posts

And yours is no exception. I like it when people go out on a limb and take a position.

I really liked this…

Mostly because I think they are pointless since there are so many things that go into play that no one can predict (Injuries being the big one).

…followed up by this…
Orton has a decent game, 2 TD’s, but he also throws 2 INT’s as well. Knowshon wins us the game by racking up 160 yards against Shawn Merriman and his untouchable skill. Nate Kaeding is SD’s best weapon this week with 3 field goals.

But can you tell me how many tackles Wesley Woodyard will have against the Steelers?

Great fun, great job. Rec’d.

But who will guard the guards themselves?

+1 on the color comentary

ever thought about doing it for real. hey alot better than most of those jokers on the MSM sites. Get tired of all the side stories that have no bearing on the game.

I'd love to do some color commentary on some things.

Hell, I even thought about doing a little bit of a podcast myself. Nothing to get in the way of John’s stuff, because he does a great job on MHR Radio. Maybe he’ll let me be a guest sometime on his show haha :)

I agree with Agent JF

These are fun posts. Nice breakdown on each game.11-5? Yeah, I can see it. As my grandmother used to say, “Your lips to God’s ears.” Rec’d.

As they say anything can happen

and what type of injuries will teams have. Without all the injuries at RB last year I think we go 9-7 or 10-6.

In regards to your post your better at it than I ever could be. I have a hard time predicting what I’ll wear to work tomarrow. And I wear a uniform. lol

I still think 9-7 or better yet 10-6 this year.

by papasteven on Aug 26, 2009 8:25 PM MDT reply actions

lol. Thanks for your compliments.

CJ

I went through your list. I think it’s pretty damn near what we expect if we think they will be vastly improved. I like your Dallas call. I think it’s right on, given how the Cowboys play hot and cold. Excellent call. I particularly think you show some objectivity with the Eagles prediction. I think I will give them 10-6, but yours is excellent.

Also, I love the J. Russel comment. Had me laughing!

Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.

by TJ Johnson on Aug 26, 2009 9:09 PM MDT reply actions

Optimistic....

I like it and anything could happen at this point. I’n kind of borderline on the Giants and Ravens games, those could go either way. I can see the rest, can’t wait to our Broncos play this year.

by bchiper on Aug 26, 2009 9:29 PM MDT reply actions

Nice

I love sweepin’ the Raiders and KC, definitely would have ta switch the SD win to home (just because I say we go undefeated at home this year).

But yeah, startin’ the season out 4-0, I like, I like…. That in itself would already have a bunch of Sports MSM eatin’ words – especially depending on how well, good ol’ Chicago’s doin’ at that point…..

I dig the vibration of the post, it’s just hard for me to come down to sayin’ “yup the Broncos are gonna lose here”
- a.) Because I never want Us to
- b.) My mind always finds some reasoning why we could end up winning.

Which is why I couldn’t do one of these, but it’s totally good stuff (except where’s the 13-3? LoL). Thanks Cj!

First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and we oughtta let someone else have a fair shot : )

I had to put my Kool Aid down for a second on this one.

I try to be as realistic as possible. Again, injuries are the hardest thing to include and write with. We will see how this year goes! I hope I’m close to right on though, because I’d consider this year a success.

Wondered the same... where's 13-3 baby?!?

Lol – and a lot of fun… really enjoyed the game recaps! Shhh! …. Come on, you can tell us… did you really just take the time machine out and get NFL Rewind next January?

hahaha

I did. It was a fun look through the archives (well, they are archives in the future, but for right now they are yet to happen)

It’s just the life of a time traveler. It’s a messy job but someone’s gotta do it.

i'm worried about cinci's pass rush

i think the season opener is going to be tougher than we would imagine. cincy could be poised for big things this season

by lolcopter on Aug 26, 2009 11:33 PM MDT reply actions

Agreed

I think their defense is being overlooked in a big way. They were awful last year because Fitzpatrick couldn’t do a darn thing with the football, not because their defense was bad.

It will be a good test for the Bronc’s offensive scheme.

Take my advice... I'm not using it!

I like that matchup

I think our offensive line should be able to neutralize any pass rush the Bengals can muster. I think their defense will improve in the coming years, but their offense really stinks.

But who will guard the guards themselves?

Loved it CJ

This was fun…But, 13-3 Baby (until reported otherwise)…Maybe we can pull the OT game w/ SD out…Thanks…rec’d

Back to back away wins at San Diego and Baltimore with both those teams coming off their bye week? You are a dreamer.

The NFL was also nice enough to give us Pitt coming off their bye week.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

I appreciate your candor, but out of curiosity, why the need for the off-handed insult “You are a dreamer”? Wouldn’t it have sufficed to say that you disagree?

11-5 hrm cough cough I mean 13-3!!! GO BRONCOS!!!

I think our defense will win this game.

On Hard Knocks, they openly admitted not having a solid Offensive line. They even ended up converting DT Shirley to the offensive line. So, I think the denver d line will have a great day against the bengals week 1. Don’t even worry about the bengal offense. If we can just eliminate turnovers and pick on their run defense by pounding hillis, we will win this game easily.
