Kudos to the Coach
Since so many "fans" have been so critical of McDaniels and the way he has handled this off-season, I thought maybe it would be worthy of a post reflecting praise for way he has handled the Brandon Marshall situation.
You may not agree with every decision he has made over the past 8 months, but love him or hate him, you should give him some real props for handling the BM sitaution with maturity and tact.
A few things that have impressed me.
1. He has been respectful of Brandon Marshall at every turn. He has never thrown him under the bus or made accusations in public. Everyone knows that Marshall is throwing a childish fit, and yet McDaniels has never once insulted or personnally attacked him. Watch the interviews. Day after day, question after question he has treated BM professionally.
2. He has controlled the managed the MSM. He has drawn a line with the media, and has held firm. For most of this stuff, it's none of the MSM's business, and McDaniels is keeping it that way. Can you imagine if this was playing itself out completely in the media? It could be 1000 times worse...
3. He has been measured and patient with his response to BM's antics. He could have pushed for a suspension a while ago, but started with direct communication with BM. Next was a warning on Wednesday morning. Thursday BM was held out of practice, and then today a moderate 2 week suspension. McDaniels has been far more patient with Marshall than any of us here have been. Instead of being reactionary and "quick tempered", he has been purposeful and firm. It shows a great deal of maturity.
4. He is keeping the bigger picture in focus. Listen to his presser before today's practice and listen to his comments. He is about winning as a team. He believes that this is the way to win, and he has the balls to stand firm when the two biggest stars in Denver start to war against it. I like it.
A guy who stands firm for what he believes is right, even when the majority of fans and media are shouting for your head... well, I respect that... and it makes me want to stand up and applaud.
Good Job Coach!

Right on.
I’ve been impressed as well. From what I have seen (which is not everything), he has done a good job with a tough situation. Good luck Josh!
I agree
I hope it all works out with McDaniels as HC, and for a long time and many Super Bowls into the future!
I agree here. Kudos for him.
If Todd Haley were the head coach, he’d probably have made Marshall’s life hell by now. That dude is mean.
That’s why McD is the guy for me! Professional, and generally awesome.

Yes And No
Xanders is running the Marshall situation, not McDaniels. McDaniels is merely the face of the organization in this situation. So while I give McDaniels a lot of credit, I think credit should go to where credit is due.
Dis-agree
It’s McDaniels who is handling the Marshall deal… Xanders maybe working the contracts and handling the agent and stuff, but it is McDaniels who handles the players, the media, and the perfomance on the feild.

Absolutely Not
Xanders is the GM, McDaniels is the coach. Xanders is handling the deal plain and simple. McDaniels is responsible for the team and talking to the media…nothing more. And that’s a good thing! Please remember that we no longer have the Shanahan in charge of everything situation here any more. We need to get over that mentality just like we still need to get over the Elway is God mentality.
So your telling me that Xanders is in charge of practice behavior?

Of Course Not
Don’t be silly. Neither is McDaniels if a player chooses to act out. But we’re not talking about just the practice behavior. Of course McDaniels has the duty to coach on the field. But it is Xanders and Bowen who decide on and implement contracts and suspensions. McDaniels is not and hopefully never will be saddled with the responsibility of being responsible for contract issues. I like that setup because McDaniels can focus entirely on coaching.
I agree that McDaniels should not be in the mix on contract stuff...
but if a coach can’t supspend a player, what authority do they have with the team. BMarsh was suspended for behavior that was detrimental to the team. Obviously this was an organizational decision, but it would have never happened had McDaniels not decided that it was best for the team.

You're Right
Things don’t happen in a secretive vacuum in the new Broncos. Bowlen, Xanders and McDaniels all work closely together. Bowlen and Xanders probably would not have suspended Marshall had McDaniels not approved. Not that they could not, but it just makes no sense in most instances to not have the coach’s input.

The assumption that Bill is his only mentor....
is laughable………..McD was raised a HC’s son……It would be a much better assumption that his father would be his biggest mentor, and that he would follow his teachings…I mean after all he has taught football to Josh for his whole life……

Back to the original thread.
I think that you have to give josh McDaniels credit for weathering the storm when two high profile players refuse to show any faith or respect to him before even attending a practice and wanting to bail on him for their own selfish reasons. I believe that the Cutler and Marshall Lovers as well as the McDaniels Haters, should consider giving Josh a flyer on the season, merely for the fact that he has handled business in a mature and professional manner unheard of for a man of his years. after all, it was those players that bailed on us fans too.
