And when you consider all of the changes

Coaching Staff
Key Players
Offensive Scheme
Defensive Scheme

We’re actually not looking THAT bad.

First team defense looked good for most of the time they were in.
First team offense looked good (other than the penalties & injuries).
Special teams was a wash (good kicking, poor coverage)

We have a lot of diversely talented players...

In a complex system that will take time to master. We’re also going to need another good draft or two before things really come together. But I think McDaniels is putting together something that just might, over time turn into something.

The defensive play seemed to break down a bit tonight after a competitive first quarter but it is too early to make any long term judgments.

And I am very interested to see Brandstater play next week, since he’ll probably be in the game a long time.

Brandstater

has lots of potential. A lot of his PT came against many of the Bears 1st stringers. He is big enough and he seems to have a pretty decent arm. I feel as though no matter which of our 3 QB’s have to play we can win with any of them. Thank god this is preseason, and we aren’t really 0-3. It could happen, but I am still clinging to hope that because we still have not played a full game with our entire compliment of players therefore IMHO it makes it tough to really get a feel for where we are. Most teams would struggle if you were to remove some of their key pieces.

Take my advice, I'm not using it !!!

Orlando Pace

Pace held Doom all night, but it was never called. I think Cutler may be running for his life this season.

by BuddyHollysPilot on Aug 30, 2009 10:11 PM MDT reply actions

My first comments

The train wreck is officially out of the station.

The best part of that game was Denver fans jumping all over Poor Cutler as one. Good for us! Too bad our offense couldn’t do the same. PC is talented, but he is also a whining bitch. Break a leg, PC. And Go Packers.

I fear that the worst part of the wheeling-dealing Josh McDaniel regime was giving away next year’s first round pick, because I do believe it’s going to be a really, really high one, and Denver is really, really going to be looking for a certified franchise QB. It’s not a good sign when all the backup QBs look better than our starter. I thought Kyle was supposed to be accurate at short range. But it doesn’t seem to matter — short range, medium range, long range – KO’s passes are all clunkers, and the Broncos should be getting cash and trading them in for something better.

And what’s with the coaching? How come all those penalties? OK – it’s preseason. I’ll pass on making that much of the mistakes. Except for the piss poor passing, that is.

Meanwhile, thanks to Brandon Marshall, Brandon Marshall has absolutely no options but to stay here – on the field, on the bench or suspended. He’s like a suicide bomber that goes off with custard pies and court appearances instead of explosives. NOBODY is going to want to pay lots of $$$ for this out-of-control baby. Well, wait a minute. Maybe Seattle would. Maybe they’ll give us back our 1st round pick for a good BM. You think? We could throw in a year’s supply of diapers to sweeten the deal.

If nothing else, it certainly looks like this year’s team is one giant step backwards. All-Pro drama queens, bad judgment on a grand scale, a killer schedule, and an owner who appears out to lunch and clueless. It’s too bad I don’t have health insurance, because it all makes me kind of sick.

Oh well, it’s not all bad. We get to watch this team do their thing in brown and yellow striped socks ugliness this year, and that ought to be good for a laugh.

by Michael J on Aug 30, 2009 10:12 PM MDT reply actions

Well, Michael, you are entitled to your opinion---even if it's an ignorant one.

Let’s clear a few things up: No, our defense didn’t get any sacks. That’s a fact. But, can you think of one time last year that our defense was this good? I sure as hell can’t.

I don’t know where you think we gave away our ONLY first rounder next year…do you forget that we still have one? Did you forget that we still have one in a very deep draft? If they were going after a quarterback, they would have done it this year. So back it up a bit and think clearly.

I would beg to differ on your assessment that we took a “step backwards”. Just because Orton isn’t going to bomb stupid balls into triple coverage like Cutler is no reason to believe we won’t be successful. He’s a smart quarterback and is making smart decisions. It seems to me that you’ve completely dismissed the fact that he didn’t throw one interception this week. Down from 1 last week, and that was down from 3 the week before. I suggest you check your apocalyptic attitude at the door before you come in here slinging nonsense.

I agree about the brown and yellow uglies. It should be fun to watch our guys rocking the most terrifying uniforms in sports history this year.

But since you helped educate me, let me return the favor.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/reillygofish

And maybe Woody Paige on tonight’s game:
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_13237246

I agree that the defense looked better, and said so in an earlier draft, but for some reason it didn’t make it to the posted version. My gosh darned ignorance again. Meanwhile, I’ll be sure and down an anti-apocalyptic brew before stopping by again, so as not to be such a buzz kill about Kyle’s zero interceptions, which made your night.
