My Hatred Of Collinsworth Has Reached New Heights
It is 12 hours since the end of the game and I still feel my blood boil when I think of how NBC let Collinworth get up on his soap box to go on and on and on and on about Cutler. I watched the game muted for most of the third quarter just so that I didn't have to hear his voice. The final straw, '''if Shanahan was still coach I bet Cutler would still be QB and the worst of all ...this has got to be McDaniel's worst nightmare, watching Cutler go up and down the field...IT WAS ONE FREAKING DRIVE!!!!. And just how many *&%^&#$ cut-aways did the camera make to Cutler on the sideline deep into the forth quarter. No mention of how Brandstater was performing, nothing!
Will we (the True Bronco Faithful) be subjected to this week in and week out? If I hear the word Franchise or Pro-Bowl one more time my head will explode!
Sorry for the tirade but I am still completely pi$$ed.

Agree
Look, I completely understand disagreeing with how it was handled and even taking the Broncos to task for it, but it just gets old all the over-the-top commentary.
Typical MSM BS.
This is what we wanted...
Hey, look what we got!
I Disagree
But I’m not a Denver Fan. I think it is Chris’s job to talk about it and that is what he get’s paid for. I think you guys need to look out of the box on this one. The move made no sense to anybody and McDaniels will be questioned about it until he wins. To get the monkey off his back him and Bowen will have to win a Superbowl.
Sadly enough you're right
The only reason they scheduled the game was so they could play on the hype of the trade. All here at MHR well understand that the MSM has no commitment to accurate or balanced reporting or commentary. Until the Broncos prove them wrong we’ll have to live with it. BUT IT STILL ####es ME OFF!! A former player like Collinsworth should know better but why let a little thing like the truth get in the way when even if you’re wrong you can just hop on the next bandwagon, which he will when we start racking up W’s.

NBC Scheduling
This game was actually scheduled on NBC before the Jay Cutler trade. The announcement was made Mar. 30, 2009 and the trade was finalized on Apr. 2, 2009.
the entire second half was phone in, announcer wise
get off your knees for rodney harrison for crying out loud. i want to watch the game
Agree!
Pretty worthless announcing.

I Know ..................lol
Does Al Micheals have a man crush on Rodney or something? He kept rubbing his shoulders and kept asking him to come to the club with him…………..LMAO
Though I did love
When Harrison called Cassel a “career backup”. That seemed odd from a former teammate. I mean, the fact that he has backed up Tom Brady means that can only be interpreted as a comment on his abilities more generally.
Agreed
The broadcast last night was gawd-freakin-awful. Micheals was just as bad as Collinsworth, imo. Clearly the only thing they thought was worth talking about was how badly McDaniels has screwed up everything, that arrogant kid.
I thought it was fairly revealing that they talked to cutler on the sidelines, but nobody on the Denver sideline.

Spin on the Cassel Trade
During the broadcast both Michaels and Collingsworthless said repeatedly that McDaniels tried to trade Cutler for Cassel. #1 – no creditable source has indicated that the Broncos initiated any of the Cassel for Cutler talk. #2 – will this be the MSM theme all season?
Besides the fact that I am a die hard fan, I want the Broncos to succeed just so we will not have to listen the inane media comments all season.
Keep Moving Forward.
Come On Owl
Stay with me here. Why do you think Bowens, McDaniel and Cutler had a meeting to discuss the proposed trade that did not take place? Remember? the meeting that did not go so well?
Depends who you are talking to . . .
According to Bowlen and McDaniels, the meeting went very well. Again, all speculation!!!

All I am Saying
Is that the MSM spin is that McDaniels initiated the Cutler for Cassel trade talk. I do not think there is any evidence that says that McDaniels started it. I am not saying that the Broncos did not evaluate a possible trade just that they did not initiate it.
Keep Moving Forward.

I don't remember
but i never thought that the trade was Cutler for Cassell straight up. It is the same type of reporting that makes people think that Cutler was traded straight up for Orton. Cutler was in essence traded for Orton, Ayers, a first next year, and I can’t remember who the other guy was this year. Cutler was traded for multiple players, all who may have an impact on how well the Broncos preform this year.
Since I was at the game last night I haven’t had a chance to see the horrible commentary, but as Broncos fans do we really expect it to ever be good?
Here Is The Deal Though
No matter how it went down. It was a really really bad move on McDaniels part to come into your team and take one of the best players on your team and even consider trading him. I could maybe see him doing something like that for a Receiver or Running Back but your Pro Bowl QB? I mean does he have a certain man love for Cassel or something? McDaniels should have came in with his head down, kept a low profile and made his player evaluations after he had been there a while. Instead he came in and stirred up a Bee Hive.
I believe the decision came from Mr. Bowlen to do the trade.....
so although I’m sure McDaniels had his say, it really wasn’t his decision completely. But, if I’m a coach, I’ll take a call and listen to what you have to say. In this case that is what happened. McDaniels took the call and listened, but, no trade was initiated. Cutler hears about it from his agent and thens to proceeded to use it to show how displeased he was with the Shannahan firing and his preceived notion McDaniels didn’t want him. Whether or not that is the truth, I don’t think we will ever know. Both sides handled this poorly. Once Shannahan was gone Cutler wanted out, and the rest is history.
preseason
I think the issue is to some extent a preseason one. Of course the announcers will have nothing relevant to talk about in the second half of a preseason game, all the action involves backups and fringe guys who they’ve never heard of even if we broncos fans have.
This also had me steamed!
I know NBC’s news coverage was heavily biased, but now it’s even sneaking into the sports coverage!
Like Rodney Harrison is an expert on personnel issues…..what a joke.
A proud prognostication of 10-6 in 2009!!!

one thing
collinsworth said that made me think was that you don’t trade Cutler unless you really somehow don’t think he is a franchise QB. I thought about this and decided I don’t! Sure, he will be a top 10 QB in the coming years, but he does not have the temperament, stability, lack of turnovers, or leadership qualities that will match his enormous salary. I mean, if you look at the last ten years, the super bowl QBs have been mostly Brady, Peyton and guys who are competitent but don’t eat up huge amounts of cap space like Dilfer, Collins, Warner, Roethlisberger (at least the first time). If the FO didn’t think Cutler belonged on the Brady/Manning level of being the QB/team leader/etc then moving to a QB of the second type makes perfect sense I’d say
Yeah!
Like Kyle Freakin Orton!!??? Please, can’t you see we traded down…..no matter how many “prospects” we ended up with.
McD and the new look Broncos have me singing the Preseason Blues!
I'm just saying that Cutler
is a good enough QB to make pro bowls and get the stats that get him a huge contract that eats up cap space and that for the size of the contract he gets, he needs to be a Brady or Manning. Clearly Cutler is better player than Orton, but in a salary cap league, it the ratio of player’s ability to salary that matters.
Cutler is not Franchise yet
Franchise to me is Brady, P. Manning, Brees, Rivers (sad to say), Roethlisburger
Cutler is more in the Hasselbeck area
I was trying to count how many times the pencil neck last night....
….kept saying Franchise QB, but I lost track after 538……

and the problem with the term is...
depending on who is using the term “Franchise QB” depends on their own personal criteria. The term is so widely used without and real definition. The best one I’ve seen was from Matt Bowen of the NFP, and even he admitted it is an often over and misused label.
Cutler > Orton
No matter what way you slice it. Everyone is bad mouthing Cutler – but most of you would be singing his praises if it was still Shanny and Cutler at the helm. This bad mouthing Cutler stemmed from the introduction of the new staff and the ensuing CutlerGate Saga…..now he is a whiner, not a team player, over-paid…etc…etc…..
McD and the new look Broncos have me singing the Preseason Blues!
Physically speaking, Cutler is greater than Orton. Yup. But beyond that? Jack squat hasn’t been proven yet, dude.

98 yards
That drive to close out the half. Incredible. Unless of course, our defense isn’t that much more improved from a year ago. Cutler showed poise and those subtle attributes that many QBs lack were clearly on display. Cutler made the Giants DL look very ordinary and last night he made the entire city of Denver bitter. Cutler is better than Orton but that isn’t what this is about. According to the trade, we have the ideal system QB. I hope the system’s finger heals because if there is one thing I know about Cutler, he’s going to show up (he did it for 2 years w/diabetes and this is his 2nd year w/it under control).
Say hello to my fast...
cutler did show me some things on that drive that i’ve been waiting to see from him for awhile now, primarily, the ability to check down to his RB in a tight spot. i don’t know if this was due to bad receiver play, or if olsen and forte ARE the best receivers, but he showed me some progress
hopefully people can give up on the constant comparisons now that the cutler bowl is over. doubtful, but i’m over it. i wish jay the best of luck in chicago, and i’m pulling hard for the broncos this season. we have an incredibly difficult schedule, but the bears are going to have some serious competition from the packers and vikings for the NFC north. i can see both teams finishing in similar division positions
Cutler Check Downs
Cutler did a great job of checking down last night. He also did a great job of that, in Week 4 last year against Tampa Bay. That said, Cutler did a poor job of checking down much of the 2008 campaign following the Tampa Bay game. Can he consistently do it? Will Cutler be happy doing it? Time will tell. I think Cutler is a great talent, but he is not without risks. It would have been nice if Cutler and McD could have grown together, but it wasn’t in the cards. I am ready to move on from this especially considering that when all is said and done, last night’s game was a preseason one. Best of luck to Cutler and the Bears. Now it’s time for the Broncos to make many needed improvements heading into Week 1’s game at Cincinnati and time to put the Cutler fallout behind them.
Orton, a Bronco vs. Cutler, not a Bronco ...Orton > Cutler by that measure
I don’t root for players, I root for Teams. Jay Cutler is a player, the Broncos are a Team.

Conventional Wisdom and Announcers
I like Chris Collingsworth. I liked him as a player, and I typically like him as an announcer. The problem with the Cutler issue is twofold: 1) Collingsworth is a personal friend of Shanahan, which he should have stated before making his comments, and definitely flavored his views. 2) These announcers are ALL about conventional wisdom. Just listen to ESPN for a day and you will know what I mean. Currently, conventional wisdom is that Cutler is a “franchise quarterback”. The announcers blow into town, with their pre-conceived notions, and make the facts on the field fit.
Cutler had a good drive, assisted by our horrible penalties. That’s all these guys needed to keep talking.
At the end of the day, who cares? We need to win. Winning cures everything. If we win, the next time we see Collingsworth he’ll be talking about the young genius….It’s his job.
Did anyone notice
That Michaels took a shot at McD during one of the challenges? I think that it was the olsen catch where, the camera cut off to McD and showed him laughing with the ref, then Michaels says “Well, McDaniels can, but he won’t be laughing in two weeks.” When he said that I felt like throwing the remote at the tv.

Are they biased towards commentating more for a larger market?
I remember last year they said how talented Cutler was but didn’t mention anything else. This year it’s all about him and how he’s suppose to be their savior. Oh yeah, they mentioned the rookie Johnny Knox during the game, but what about Robert Ayers? He was involved in the trade too you know. I agree, my blood was boiling because it seems they are making comments to make the larger market happy.
On the other hand...
… Collinsworth also made it very clear that Marshall needed to stop acting like a child and get back to playing the game. In fact, all the MSM talking heads said the same or similar things. Even Jay Cutler said Marshall needed to get back on the field.
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
IMO, none of those (truthful) Marshall comments would have ever seen the light of day
had it not been for the irrefutable evidence in that widely viewed, undeniable Marshall practice tape. Otherwise, in addition to the Collinsworth/Cutler love fest the small market audience had to put up with, we’d have gotten a steady stream of "I just don’t understand why McDaniels is trying to get rid of his best player?!!! all night. They are piling on cause it is the easy and expected thing for them to do to fill up time since they have nothing of interest or importance to say. They are spouting back to the target, large market audience what they think that audience expects to here.

They certtainly don't cater to the small markets, that's for sure.

It's also laughable..
That NBC has hired one of the all-time “cheap shot” artists in NFL history" Rodney Harrison. I watched him really hurt players after the play was over for many seasons. Was he a good safety? Of course. It just seems that we have been “cannonizing” some really strange people lately.
