Wow! Thanks, Jay... I guess
So now the truth comes out, check out this article by John Clayton.
Here's the best part:
His (Cutler's) knowledge of the passing game and receiving talent might equal his arm strength. Cutler and a bunch of his former Denver Broncos teammates remembered watching Eddie Royal make remarkable plays on special teams during the opening of 2008 organized team activities and telling Mike Shanahan, "Who's this guy? I think we need to get him over here." Within days, Royal was working with the offense and ended up catching 91 passes.
If it wasn't for Jay Cutler, poor Eddie Royal would be languishing on the bench just waiting for his chance to return punts all season. Clayton forgot to mention the unsurpassed humility of the man, too, by including "a bunch of his former teammates". C'mon, John, you know as well as we do, it was Jay. The Denver Broncos and their fans obviously owe a huge debt of gratitude for Cutler's unmatched eye for receiving talent. If he hadn't woken Mike Shanahan up to the completely unforeseeable talent of Eddie Royal, who knows if he would've even made the final roster.
Unfortunately for us, he is now using his superior ability in personnel evaluation for da Bears, seeing Devin Hester as his new Eddie Royal and Earl Bennett as, even better!.. a hybrid of Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall. I sure hope Clayton didn't mess himself while pondering the possibilities.
And like I said, thanks Jay!.... I guess.

Wot a shaggy dog story
The Cutler walks on water by his own admission. And don’t forget that not only did he discover Royal, he made him and BMarsh into stars. We can thank him for that, too. Talk about drinking kool-aid. Ours is watered down compared to what Clayton’s chugging. I didn’t realize he was such a Bears fan. Evidently Cutler responded to fawning admiration and opened up about his greatness, and Clayton listened, hard.
"Surprised to see you, Captain, though pleased." — from Star Trek episode Space Seed.
Hmmmm
Was it his “knowledge of the passing game” that caused him to force the ball into double and triple coverage regularly? Or was it his “knowledge of receiving talent”?
I’m confused.

And to hear Shanny speak of Royal, you'd think they had him targeted at WR all along.
At least I remember a presser somewhere and Shanahan said that he was the number one recieved on their board last year. But that can’t be right, since they only drafted him in the SECOND round to return punts/kicks.
What an asinine article
Just… wow.
"I am not one of those who think that coming in second or third is winning." -- Robert F. Kennedy
To Cutler, Hester’s skills resemble Royal’s, and Bennett’s is a hybrid of those of Royal and Brandon Marshall.
that must be why he doesn’t have a singly reception in the NFL yet. Jay Cutler hasnt’ been his QB
ahahhahahaaa. loser
not only that
Bennett’s on track for 50 – 60 receptions according to Clayton.
Bennett has the look of a solid 50- or 60-catch receiver.
Which means he’ll ONLY have to catch 50 – 60 more than last year.
I wish Earl well but I think we got a better receiver off their roster in Brandon Lloyd.

What a Load.
i was actually angry at Shanny & Co. for drafting this no name kick returner in the second round! Before the very first press conference with Royal, Shanahan said on the radio that he and the Goodmans thought this kid was The Best Receiver in The Draft, running the best routes and having great hands and speed and good blocking ability to boot.
But um, thanks though, Jay, for shedding the light… ?
The Mind of John Clayton
Following a simple logical argument that Evidence + Assumptions = Conclusion…
Conclusion: Jay Cutler is Amazing
Evidence: Eddie Royal did so well on special teams he got noticed and promoted.
So what kind of Assumptions are running through Clayton’s mind? I mean how do you connect those dots?
Assumption: Cutler was the Broncos Special Teams coach? Cutler, unlike the coaches, thought Royal was something special? Man it makes me go cross eyed.
I would like to illustrate how Clayton’s analysis explains the long TD pass in the Browns game. Jay Cutler was SOOO good he KNEW that Royal was exceptional at correcting for a badly thrown pass . Therefore, he threw it to a bad spot in order to allow Royal to make a wonderful correction, confuse the DB, and run to the end zone. After all, if Cutler had thrown the ball well then it would have just been an easy completion for a first, not a TD. Make sense to everyone?
Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.
I have to admit
The mind of John Clayton sounds like a FASCINATING place.
ew
i ain’t goin’ there.

Wow, Earl Bennet is a cross between Royal and Marshall...
Ok let’s see. He has Marshall’s size and strength, and Royal’s speed and route running ability…Sorry Jerry Rice, but say goodbye to your records. They should just start working on Earl the Pearl’s bust for the HOF now.
And the 42nd overall pick was taking solely for his kick returning skills…well in the immortal words of Iron Mike Tyson…that is ludacrisp.

Clayton and Peyton
What I wouldn’t give to put a tiny little helmet on Clayton’s tiny little head and have Peyton The White Rhino Hillis run over him.
