Ten Commandments of Bronco Fanship

As a fun diversion from the training camp addiction I'm managing, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of 10 Commandments for Broncos Fans.  Of course, if you have any that you think I missed perhaps these commandments could and should be added to and/or amended.

 Super-bowl-recipes10-013009-lg-66606121_medium

Star-divide

1. The greatest QB ever to play in the NFL was John Elway.  (That shalt not worship false idols)

2. The Raiders must always lose - even if it helps us.  The only good Raider fan is a sad one.

3. The Barrel Man shall always represent the unattainable fandom that we all must strive for day in and day out.

4. Thou shalt not miss Broncos games unless there is a damn good reason (Births, weddings, power outage, locusts, etc.)

5.  Thou shalt have the keyword Broncos programmed into the DVR in first position in case of such unavoidable instances.

6.  Thou shalt revere Mike Shannahan as the back-to-back Superbowl winning coach he once was and not the türd drafter he would later become.

7. Thou shalt not refer to it simply as "Invesco".  One must always at least include the words "Mile High" or soley refer to it as such.

8.  Thou shalt harbor a high degree of disgust for the Hall of Fame (At least until the Broncos are justfully represented).

9.  Thou shalt root for the city, colors and team; not individual players that have departed (Exceptions being Dominic Foxworth and Jason Elam).

10. Thou shalt enter each and every season with the expectation of not only making the playoffs, but the Superbowl as well.

Any suggestions?

That was definitely what they said at the time...

though there have been a spate of close finishes lately. The “head catch” to beat the Pats is right up there for my top plays of all time, along with the “helicopter” of course.

Well

It ended the 13 years of NFC dominance. There was so much building up to it, I would say it rivals the Perfect Pats Super bowl Loss.

Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

Couple of amendments/disagreements:

2. I’m okay with the Raiders winning if it helps the Broncos (but only if it helps the Broncos).
4. Thou shall not miss a Broncos game! PERIOD!!!

"C" is for Championship...that's good enough for meeeee!!!

That's blasphemy you know.

Thou shalt not puncture rival visiting fans’ tires in the parking lot.
Thou shalt honor thy teams Owner and Team.
Thou shalt not covet a 13-3 season even if it is predestained.
Thou shalt not lie about being so good and then be so good.
Thou shalt not kill the spirit of 13-3 Baby!!!
Thou shalt believe thy team and only thy team.
Thou shalt not make onto yourselves a graven image of anything other than the Bronco logo.
Thou shalt not adulterate thy team by saying good things about other teams.

Nice - Rec'd

I love it – I always do. When I can happily print a post from MHR for whatever reason….
A couple amendations… imo, of course – maybe I’ll wait a bit before printing to see if you add/change

  1. -No.2 don’t you mean ‘…even if it hurts the Broncos’?
  2. - No.5 you could just remove the word ‘such’ – and it would flow better
  3. - No.9 Trevor Pryce, Steve Atwater (even though he still came back to retire a Bronco)

And maybe just move number one to #7, just because… But man, digworthy post for sure! Thanks Jezru – I will perpetually get a kick out of it!

Good points...

Trevor Pryce is allowed. Atwater? Once you’re in the Ring of Fame your non-Broncos transgressions are forgiven. Shoot, nobody remembers that one year anyway (let us never speak of it again).

Al Wilson is an acceptable exception, in addition to Atwater, Pryce, Elam, etc.

Al never played for any other teams

That was the emphasis of no. 9 – to not root for players that departed to play for another team (or at least that was how I took it). But yeah, I’ll always root for Al too!

I got married last year on September 20th in Seattle....

You better believe that when we played the Saints on the 21st (in our fancy orange unis) that I was at a sports bar watching. However… this year our one year anniversary happens to be when we play Cleveland…. After seeing your advice above… sigh…

Don't do it man!

You gotta set the ground rules early. Once you start missing games for “good” you’re gonna become expected to miss games for lame reasons. The precedent must be set…I was smart (ok lucky) enough to have been married in the summer so I don’t have to worry about this.

I lucked out...

Got married in September, then went to Bermuda on Sunday. Fortunately for me (or was it strategic planning?), the Broncos were on Monday Night, and ABC was on there! Sadly, though, I think they blew a huge first half lead…and maybe even to the raiders. ’Twas long ago.

So anyway, if you don’t get cooperation, then get married when the next game is not on Sunday (or better, on the bye week). You haven’t compromised anything that way, and yet you’ve kept the peace.

LOL, the one thing..............

I stipulated before my wife and I got married was that I get the TV anytime the Broncos are playing, absolutely no exceptions!!! LOL

by Broncofan on Aug 6, 2009 7:54 AM MDT up reply actions

It was a stipulation in a lease agreement I wrote up for some kids who

rented a room from us for the summer this year. On the off chance that they would be staying until the season started, I wrote a clause int he lease that says the TV is OFF LIMITS during any Broncos broadcast or related programming.

I also had a clause that stipulated my border collie was to be be petted and given treats on a regular basis, so it wasn’t exactly a “normal” lease agreement….

And constant walkies…My guides left me prejudiced for goldens, but border collies and goldens are my favorite breeds – so smart, and the BCs are easily the smartest of the two. How old?

My own commandment

Well 2 that I’ve had forever:

1) The Broncos record prediction from me will be 19-0, until the first loss, then 18-1, etc….
2) The Super Bowl prediction from me will be Denver vs. Green Bay with Denver winning.

by Trogdoor on Aug 5, 2009 3:57 PM MDT reply actions   1 recs

I almost want to say Denver vs. Chicago...

But that would mean the Cutler and the Bears were successful enough to make it to the Superbowl and I just don’t want that to happen…especially this year since we have their pick.

2. Thou shalt remember what great fans GOD has made you.
3. Thou shalt remember that as the great fans (that GOD has made you) We Will Win! ..until we don’t.
4. Thou shalt remember the sabboth for after bringing Shanny and two Super Bowls he rested.
5. Thou shalt honor the many greats that kept this franchise alive and have been ignored by the Hall.
6. Thou shalt not love any injury to apponents, thou will love the hit, but not the kill.
7. Thou shalt not love any other team unless you’ve been a fan for over forty years and had to have an alternate to maintain your sanity (in the early years) until GOD made Denver his team.
8. Thou shalt not steal except you be in Denver’s defense, if there steal and steal often.
9. Thou shalt not believe the slanted witness of the MSM.
10. Thou shall only covet wins, playoffs, and Super Bowl.

8. Don’t even get me started. The NFL is and will always be an absolute joke until the Broncos are fairly represented. One of THE most successful franchises over the last 35 years has 2 players in it now? Makes sense. NOT.

are not acceptable reasons for missing Bronco games, unless of course you are the one in the box at a funeral. And what kind of fool would schedule your funeral during a Bronco game?
