Horse Tracks 8/6/09 - Rooks get muddy; Where is Knowshon?!?!

DB - Day 6 Report - Broncos TV
Highlights from last night's rookie slip n' slide.
DB - Day 6: McDaniels - Broncos TV
McD talks about the value of Jabar Gaffney, who he calls "Gaff." He's hoping for Knowshon to get to camp soon, but no updates. More raves about Eddie Royal and his versatility.
DB - Day 6: Woodyard - Broncos TV
Wes Woodyard says he has to prove himself each year, and talks about his fit as an ILB. We need to hear more out of WW; he's a pretty sharp kid.
DB - Paying Their Dues
The rookies were put through a watery initiation last night, capturing loose balls in the mud. Ed Hochuli and Co. went over the year's rule changes, and attendance and parking for tonight's practice will be free at the Big IF. Practice will try to simulate game situations, with live hitting and coaches communicating via headsets.
DB - Day 6: A.M. Blog - Chris Gentilviso
DB - Day 6: P.M. Blog - Kyle Sonneman
At the goal line, the offense showed a three-TE set with Graham, Scheffler and Quinn all on the field together. Personally, I cannot wait to see that during the season.
DP - Reid making transition
Klis looks at Darrell Reid's move to OLB, with some input from Reid's fellow Gopher alum Karl Mecklenburg.
DP - Fields to man middle for Broncos - Jeff Legwold
Legwold profiles Ronnie Fields and explains what his duties will be as a nose tackle for Denver, with some advice from Broncos legend Rubin Carter. Hey Krieger - hopefully you'll read this and learn that a nose tackle isn't supposed to generate a pass rush...
DP - Dove Valley Days: Rookies get chance to shine
McD isn't too interested in sharing specific injury information. If that gives the Broncos a competitive advantage, then it's fine by me! LJones apparently doesn't feel the same way...
DP - Gaffney's role more than being a receiver - Lindsay Jones
Jabar Gaffney is something of an on-field coach, as well.
DP - Buckhalter shows some power
C-Buck pounded out three TDs from the one
DP - Intense focus on signing Moreno
The combination of his leg injury and trial next week will likely keep Brandon Marshall out of the Broncos' preseason opener.
RMI - Broncos’ running back derby just starting - Chris Tomasson
Y! - Pedigree doesn't guarantee McDaniels success - Jason Cole
Cole looks at McD, whom he describes as comfortable in his own skin and professorial.

Royal emerging as Broncos offensive centerpiece
On Yahoo
"You give 100 percent in the first half of the game, and if that isn't enough, in the second half you give what's left." – Yogi Berra
"No, I'm from Iowa, I only work in outer space."
Moreno is playing with fire. Hillis, Torain and the vets should be plenty capable of making our running game click.
I wasn’t too excited about this pick back in April and I’m not too excited about it today. Orakpo signed a week ago so we even have a price point to work with. Get your butt in camp and prove yourself.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.
Cutler, on a Chicago radio station -
On the difference between Chicago and Denver as football towns. “Denver is on like a 6, and Chicago is a 9.” He went on to say Denver fans don’t have nearly the passion as Bears fans.
Which explains all the sellouts, I guess.
Thanks, Jay! Stay classy!
Cant wait to see Doom

Practice reports.
Why don’t you link Broncotalk more often? Their practice report write-ups are excellent.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.
That'll be your job from now on.
:-) Seriously, I did follow your link – another interesting perspective to add to the ones we get here.
The practice reports at broncotalk are great. A lot of direct observation with good color. Not the overly positive spin you get here or the overly negative spin you get from the MSM. There is balance, which MHR lacks IMO.
I was surprised to hear that Ryan Harris and Kuper are not looking so good. I was thrilled to read that Ayres is making impact plays.

Are you kidding, McGeorge?
Those homers said they actually liked the play of Kenny Peterson. Everybody knows the defensive front 7 (or has it grown to 11 by this point?) is the worst in the history of anything. What kind of terrible rose-colored lenses are they wearing to say something positive about a D-lineman?
Seriously, all of us Kool-Aid drinkers around here have been a lot more negative than that.
In all honesty, if I were to start linking to other blogs regularly, this would become a full-time job and I’d have to quit my actual one. I hope that doesn’t sound like a copout; it’s true!

Knowshow = Noshow? ;)
Hopefully he’ll be in camp soon.
The Bly article on SJMN is interesting
It reinforces my belief that Slowik was in over his head with the DC job. Having Nolan as the DC instantly makes the defense better.
I’m disappointed for Shanahan’s sake, that he is dragging Slowik with him on his camp visits, setting up the impression that it’s a package deal for the next job.
What's sad
Is everybody that watched a second of Denver’s D knew what a failure that scheme was. I know the safeties were horrible, but lining up 15 yards off the receiver was waiving a white flag. Pretty much saying, go ahead and score a touchdown but have the respect to at least do it slowly. Bltizing 11 would have had a better chance of success than that scheme and been far more fun to watch.
Thanks!!
I hope this is the day we finally debate Alphonso Smith!!!
There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance-- that principle is contempt prior to investigation."
-- Herbert Spencer

What debate, that it was actually a brilliant move on the coaches part not to pay 1st rd bucks for a 1st rd pick...even though a close to 1st 2nd rd.
That debate
Won’t really start until the NFL draft next season when it is known what pick was given up. Just as it is a given that Orton and Cutler and probably Cassel will be compared for a few years, Smith and the player to be drafted later will be compared for a few years.
Crabtree is talking season long hold out for Top 5 money. I really hope Moreno can forget about this clown and cut his own deal that makes sense based on what Orakpo got and what we paid Clady at 12 last season.
Keying off a tool like Crabtree will win Moreno no love in Denver.
