Might this be what's holding up Knowshon  ??

Crabtree ready to re-enter the draft next year

"We are prepared to do it," Wells said. "Michael just wants fair-market value. They took him with the 10th pick and you have Darrius Heyward-Bey [the seventh overall pick by the Oakland Raiders] getting $38 million? This week is crucial. Michael was one of the best players in the draft and he just wants to be paid like one of the best players. This week is very crucial."

If he was indeed one of the "best" players in the draft, why did he not get picked up sooner than #10 ?

I hate these kinda athletes who want more money before they have done diddly-squat & just because they think they are good.

That is definitely it...

Thanks to Al Davis and the BS contract that he gave DHB, Crabtree wants 40 mil…..Needless to say, Knowshon wants to see how that is going to play out before coming to terms…

What a nightmare this guy is. Thank the heavens we didn’t end up with him.

"C" is for Championship...that's good enough for meeeee!!!

by PosterNutbag on Aug 6, 2009 12:06 PM MDT reply actions

I say let him re-enter the draft next year

He’ll end up in the 7th round like Bo Jackson.

by NYCBronx on Aug 6, 2009 12:27 PM MDT reply actions

Seriously the guy got picked at #10

Sit out a year and you think your stock is going to go up?

Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

Man

The tears are just building up for this guy. He just wants to get paid like the best players in the draft.

Sheesh, I guess the hat is off to Mangini

Cmon man! That’s my Wide Receiver…it ain’t right!"

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

I have to wonder if that's not just gamesmanship

First, you miss an entire professional year, then you go back into the draft with everyone knowing that you’re perfectly willing to stiff your team to attempt to get all the goodies in your first contract. Not the world’s best strategy – good luck cracking the top 15 again (or even the first round). You lose out on the year’s pay, you lose more by dropping slots or rounds, and then you have a rep for a bad attitude. Other than that, it’s a great approach….;-)

by Doc Bear on Aug 6, 2009 12:34 PM MDT reply actions

Exactly

It doesn’t even make sense from a financial perspective. He’ll never get the same value AND lose a years interest on a huge signing bonus. So he’ll sit out a year for a much smaller contract, take a huge financial hit, just to show the 49ers he’s the man?

There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance-- that principle is contempt prior to investigation."

Do teams get a make up pick the next year?

If so, at some point teams need to tender a reasonable offer and say “this is our last offer, you can re-enter next year and get 1/10 of our offer if your lucky, and we’ll pick someone who wants to play”

49's Lose Their Pick

NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement See Article XVI, pages 46 to 49 (actual pages 61 to 64 in the pdf). The 49’s have until the 10th week of the playing season to sign him or he won’t be able to play this year. If they can’t sign him at all, they may want to trade their rights to another team, but they can only do that up to 30 days before the first regular season game. The 49’s will not get a compensatory pick next year.

So that puts pressure on both sides

The 49’s will not get a compensatory pick next year.

I can sort of see Crabtree's position

Everyone but Al Davis knows he was the best receiver in the draft, so he wants to be paid like DHB.
But where is Noshow coming from? He was the first RB taken. What is he whining about?

He felt like the man who drew the first circle. Perfect and complete.

by bradley on Aug 6, 2009 1:14 PM MDT reply actions

Robert Ayers agent is Anthony Agnone.

Michael Crabtree’s agent is Eugene Parker, who also represents Tyson Jackson.

CAA Sports represents Knowshon Moreno. His agent is Tom Condon.

crabtree has no position

crabtree has no position….and i dont see anything to justify his behavior.
It doesnt matter if a player is the best in the draft or not, everyone in the history of the NFL is always paid for where they are drafted (give or take a little bit).

Also there is a rumor going around that the agent for crabtree hasn’t made an offer yet (per profootballtalk.com).
so my guess is the team offered him a 10-15% increase over the slot from last year and they arent going to budge on the offer.

I wouldn’t mind seeing them say this: “here is a contract for 13% increase over this slot from last year. everyday that you dont accept this contract, we will remove 1% from our offer.”

he would have to sign the deal, there is 0% chance of him sitting out for a year. Bo jackson sat out because he was a bonafide baseball star….if crabtree sits out a year he loses 8% of his total career earnings, assuming he has a 13 year career.

knowshon has the same agent as the 3-5 guys picked right behing him (not sure on the exact number of guys)

by DW76 on Aug 6, 2009 1:22 PM MDT reply actions

Ridiculous

Crabtree needs to have a nice little talk with former USC wideout Mike Williams about his experience sitting out a year and then reconsider. Whoever is advising him absolutely does not have his best interests at heart.

by Business Socks on Aug 6, 2009 1:23 PM MDT reply actions

Mike Williams

Williams’ mistake was hiring an agent and declaring for the draft that made him ineligible for NCAA reinstatement. He did not hold out over money. He was forced to sit because of his rash action.

by Endzone on Aug 6, 2009 1:36 PM MDT up reply actions

Never said he held out over money

Just that he missed an entire year w/ no football at any level and look where it got him. May be different circumstances, but it will inevitably have the same results.

by Business Socks on Aug 6, 2009 1:45 PM MDT up reply actions

It may be just a hold-out facade, a ploy for money. He'll sign, it's just a matter of when.

Man, I would hate to be drafted by the raiders and have to play for a owner like Al.

by bfree2bronc on Aug 6, 2009 1:31 PM MDT reply actions

Really

Crabtree should count his blessings.

He felt like the man who drew the first circle. Perfect and complete.

by bradley on Aug 6, 2009 1:32 PM MDT up reply actions

Crabtree is with the 49ers, not the Raiders

That’s why bradley said Crabtree should count his blessings because he will be on the better side of the bay; Darius Heyward-Bey is with the Raiders.

Simple mix up. :-)

Just another reason

a rookie pay cap is needed in the NFL. I would like to see more pay increases based on performance like most the rest of the business world. You perform you get a raise, you excell you get a bigger raise, you don’t well you don’t get diddly………..

by bchiper on Aug 6, 2009 1:51 PM MDT reply actions

Except that it's not the business world

It’s the entertainment business and the rules are a little different. I don’t disagree with a rookie pay scale arrangement, but good luck getting that past NFLPA.

It's "just" football

Don't disagree Donk,

But as BroncoSense72 says that is one the items on the PA list. The Vets are tired of getting seconds after some of the kids that haven’t even proven they can play at the pro level.

The Owners will have to give up something to the players for it.

Let Crabtree sit then.

Hey Crabtree, just because the Raiders pay Heyword-Bey that much doesn’t mean he is worth that much. You get paid where you were drafted and that is it. If you want more money then go out and show everyone and the 49ers what you are worth.

I hope our situation with Moreno gets settled quickly. I mean if DHB sits out 2009 then the rest of the picks should get signed quickly.

Very sad to watch

the Diva Syndrome continue to spread it’s virus down to the college and high school levels…These kids have been filled with so much crap about how good they are, and how much money they can make, it’s just disturbing…

This kid (and Knowshon) are getting some seriously BAD advice!!!

Couldn't agree more!

You would think some parents might have a better influence here as well….. (?)

First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and we oughtta let someone else have a fair shot : )

The Strange thing is

they could just write in an escalator in his contract that will pay him like a Top 3 pick, IF, he plays like one. It is absurd if he thinks otherwise since he hasn’t played in the league yet. Not to mention his bum leg. This kid has a serious case of Cranial Rectum-itis.

I don't expect any big moves by the team on Moreno

After sitting tight on B-Marsh, and with several RBs in camp, the pressure is on Moreno to move. Much as I’d like to see him in now, he has more to lose by holding out. I expect the Broncos have and will make him a fair offer based on draft position and history. Ayers got 16% up from last years’ spot. Pretty nice bump.

If the average RB career is ~6 years, I see him wanting to make sure the deal is good, since it will probably be 5 years long. Still, you got to get in camp to make anything.

by MakeCents on Aug 6, 2009 7:08 PM MDT reply actions

Few thoughts...

Anyone catch the “Prime-U” series that ESPN aired before the draft? This whole Crabtree train wreck could be predicted the way Deion Sanders fed Crabtree’s ego like it was a binge eating disorder.

Doesn’t everyone know that the Raiders overpay every kid that runs fast, Heisman winner, Superbowl MVP, next big thing, latest gimmick to come around, etc.? Whatever comes out of Alameda should simply be ignored, and you should just be happy to be employed by someone other than al davis. If you really want to motivate Mr. Crabtree to sign, threaten to send him across the bay to the raiders. That would scare me straight.

The science of cloning has been around for a long time now right? Since at least Jurassic Park, and in my book that is a long time. Why can’t we just clone Eddie Royal and Hillis over and over till we have enough of them to field an entire team? Wouldn’t this work? What am I missing? Do we need to send them off to Europe to get it done?

KM will sign very soon..

Condon has a reputation for fairness and getting the best deal possible but not advising extended holdouts. The DHB contract and Crabtree’s holdout are issues for sure but I seriously doubt that KM or Condon want to keep dragging things out.
