Jerry Rice on Marshall
I know Rod Smith has done what he can to get through that size 9 head of Brandon Marshall but if Marshall has any sense at all, he'd take heed into what the greatest receiver of all-time thinks about his antics. I doubt he will but nevertheless....
"When I came in the league it was about earning your money, justifying your job," said Rice. "I always believed once you sign a contract, you're obligated to it. Or you work it out in-house."
Brandon Marshall, he figures, wouldn't have dared to drop balls under Bill Walsh.
There'd be no suspension, said Rice. "He'd have been on the first Greyhound home."

Hire Bill Walsh!
He’ll either knock some sense in or get rid of Baby TO.
Though if Rod didn’t make much of a dent, I wouldn’t have much faith in the sense part.

The ghost of Bill Walsh? I’d be pretty motivated if a poltergeist came after me.

And you know there's some guy
with a dead chicken out there who thinks he can do it.

WAIT.......
Are you asking me to get rid of the dead chicken? ;-)
I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. Coach Norman Dale "Hoosiers"
here in body but not in spirit?

He controls his destiny
Next week will tell us alot about Marsh. If he comes to work, proves he wants to be here, I think the Broncos will work a deal out with him. I feel McDaniels wants to put all of this behind him, we’ll see if Marsh wants to as well. If he doesn’t I can see him spending more time being the highest paid scout team player in the league for a year, or until some other team decides to take chance on him.
2 weeks of everyone from Collinsworth to Bailey calling him an immature idiot may go a long way.

Mike Tomlin said it best...
Every head coach in the league is either going through something like Marshall’s demands with one of their players, or will be.
Tomlin’s statement was simple….put it on tape and then we will talk.
Marshall needs to show he is recovered and ready to play…..that is, put it on tape. There are enough doubts at this point such that Denver is smart to do nothing at this stage. And, until Marshall puts it on tape, there is no team in the league that will give him what he wants, if cut, or what Denver deserves, if drafted.
He is hurting both himself and Denver. Truly the definition of a selfish individual. Even worse, he is not willing to live up to the contract he signed. So, his word is meaningless.
Walsh
A left tackle named Bob Singletary wanted a new contract. He was pretty good, too, but he wanted a lot and it wasn’t up for renewal. Not getting what he wanted, he claimed in the media that Walsh was acting this way because he was black. Walsh was incensed. He had someone clean out Singletary’s locker, dumped it into a cardboard box and had it driven to the man’s house and left on his doorstep. That was how Singletary found out that he’s been fired.
This was when Walsh had a rivalry with Parcells, LT was playing for Parcells/Giants and Walsh had to devise a strange system using the left guard to pull and block LT since the starting left tackle was only 245 lb and a perennial backup, but Walsh didn’t care. You just didn’t DO that.

Oh how I wish...
I could only wish that today’s NFLPA would allow the Broncos to pack up Marshall’s locker into a Hefty bag and toss it onto the shoulder of I-25. I’m sure McDaniels is doing as much as the rules of the NFLPA will allow, which is this little suspension that will cost Marshall his per diem. I’ve said it before….I only want Marshall if he’s absolutely 100% committed to THE PLAN. Anything less is unacceptable.
Collinsworth said it absolutely best during the broadcast by saying that the league will survive without him and that someone else could easily take his place. Let’s hope Marshall gets that through the noggin’. Otherwise, send the Broncos a current address where they can deliver your crap to you.
Thanks, pshin. Very good point.
Bear, I had heard the 2nd part of your story where Walsh had the LG pulling to block LT but I never knew why. I assumed that there had been an injury and he was short on OL players. My regard for Walsh just climbed higher. Thanks.
If we cut BM, he will have won.
This is what he wants. If we cut him loose now, we get shafted, we lose a good wide out, and get nothing for him. I say, if his antics continue, we just suspend him for the whole year, that way he DOESN’T GET PAID this year.
We have even more leverage...
if he gets suspended throughout the season for being a knucklehead, Marshall loses a season toward his eligibility to become an unrestricted free agent where, in his mind, he can earn TRILLIONS of dollars. If he is as motivated by money as he appears to be, this factor alone could possibly make him straighten up and fly right for the season (hoping, hoping, hoping…).
Take my advice... I'm not using it!

Marshall can not leave the team physically
So he is trying emotionally with his utter display of contempt. This will set a bad precedent on future misfits in the Broncos org. Make Marshall stick to his contract and earn his keep.
Jerry Rice is all professional. That is what all players should emulate.
Theres a difference in the age between Walsh and McDaniel's
While I truly believe McD dosnt give a rat’s crap as to what the msm says….he has to cater to the fans to some degree. Im sure as soon as he saw Marshall swat those balls away he wanted to send Marshall packing for good….but he cant risk any more emotional despair among fans after this trying offseason….
On To Victory!!!
wonder if there's not also
a determination to make sure that every step of the correct process is followed, in order to keep the NFLPA out of the mix.

The difference isn't the ages between the Coaches
The difference is the time frame these players play in, while it used about the previledge and pride to get to the pros, versus holding out for big money before you have proved your worth or demanding a new contract before the old one is done with instead of honoring your contract and then negoitiating for what is due to you. I hate to beat a dead horse so to speak but Marshall needs to remember that the name on the front is more important than the back. I know I quote that too much but it is my favorite saying to my own kids and players. The coach better be the boss or he to will soon be down the street. My college coach taught me that a team is ruled by a dictatorship not a democracy.
Marshall may be a confused individual
but ultimately, I do believe he is a good guy and will get his head straight and make amends as best he can and play. With so many mistakes and such bad karma and press, there is no other end game for him unless he’s so mad he chooses to sit out and have to deal with the same damned thing next year.
