"More than anything I just wanted to get the win for Josh," Correll Buckhalter said. "His first win, you know it feels great...."

Loved Buck's game yesterday

Definitely one of the bright spots in yesterday’s effort.

Conversation nonstarters: hoping McDaniels fails, comparing Bears to Broncos, Cutler to Orton, apples to oranges, and casual drinkers to Raiders fans.

yehbut

you know that McDaniels doesn’t have the respect of the locker room, right?

Right?

right?

Hello?

Wait, is the national sports media full of crap? That can’t be…

He's lost the team.

Fire him, and install Brandstater as the starting QB/head coach.

Learned advice from Dan Marino, he of the Zero Super Bowl Rings

During the pre-game yesterday, “expert” analyst Dan Marino said (out loud) that all McDaniels should have done when he showed up in Denver was to go to Cutler and ask him what did he (McDaniels) need to do to improve Jay’s team. Cutler’s unsolicited input to Lovie on what he should do with his Bear’s receivers seemed to pay great dividends last night.

He honestly said that?

Its mind boggling how low-brow and silly NFL coverage is becoming. It has honestly affected my enjoyment of following the NFL, because when guys make comments like that you really have to question all the information you receive about teams you can’t follow as closely as your favorite. It’s literally like sitting in the day room of some sorority and concluding that the information you receive is hard news.

I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even watch the shows or read the stories anymore.

"Its mind boggling how low-brow and silly NFL coverage is becoming"

I agree, but how about Terry Bradshaw’s comments about Favre being back? He kept going on about how his mommy was so tired of the Favre thing, and how his daddy was so tired about the Favre thing, and how his family was so tired about the Favre thing, and how his mommy was so tired….
Well, you get the picture. IMO, whether Bret Favre plays for the Vikings is between him and the Vikings, and not between a bunch of sweaty old fans and their sweaty old jock straps and moans and groans about Favre’s legacy. And it certainly is not an issue for Terry’s mommy, at least not on national TV.

A man does what he has to do, and sometimes it’s not what I believe he should do. There’s no reason to use up energy hating him for it. Shoot him if you have to, but don’t hate him.

i heard that and shook my head.

and then jay shows some of his true colors, and perhaps the exact reason and consequence for/of Josh not catering to the “promising young qb” by anointing #6 king of the team.

I can't fathom Shula asking Dan for advice but then again how many SB did they win together?

Shortly after losing Super Bowl XVII to the Washington Redskins, the Dolphins drafted quarterback Dan Marino out of the University of Pittsburgh. Marino won the starting job halfway through the 1983 regular season, and by 1984 the Dolphins were back in the Super Bowl thanks largely to Marino’s record 5,084 yards through the air and 48 touchdown passes. Despite consistent success in the regular season, Shula [Marino]was unable to win in the post-season, failing in 12 trips to the playoffs – including two more Super Bowl appearances.

What's really ridiculous about all this

is that the media couldn’t find enough ways to criticize Cutler when he played for the Broncos. As soon as a trade rumor surfaced, he’s the second coming of Elway, Staubach, Unitas, and Sammy Baugh all in one. WTF?

Buckhalter looked good yesterday

Unfortunately, he’ll be the next guy that the fans turn on, as he likes McDaniels. He must not realize that McDaniels created budget deficits, racism, terrorism, global warming, and the Oakland Raiders.

Holliday's comment

HERE

“You know what, the perception that I had of the Broncos coming here doesn’t really match up with what I’ve found since I got into the locker room and starting talking to the guys.”

Maybe you could expand on that?

Really, [the media’s perception, is] not the reality of the situation at all. Of course, over the course of the last six months.. really longer than that…. all you’ve seen…you’ve seen the Jay Cutler fiasco, then the Brandon Marshall, all those things that are just negative attention and negative media, all those things that are just negative stories coming out of the locker room. But you don’t get a chance to talk to…ah.. Elvis Dumervil, or the Simms, or the Kenny Petersons or … I mean… all these guys who are part of the locker room, part of the team, and it seems to me like everyone is on board…”

“… if I had never seen the news coverage and never read the papers then I wouldn’t have known ‘that’ (Cutler and Marshall issues, etc.] had happened, because it’s business as usual, every one is preparing and [there’s] one mission is mind, and that’s to win this first game…”

I didn’t try to transcribe the entire interview but some of Holliday’s opening comments about how the media perception and coverage wasn’t anything like what he experienced after joining the team are revealing. And, I might add, they’re hardly unexpected. Knocking the media’s coverage has become cliche but it’s unavoidable in this case.

BTW — did anyone see Jamie Dukes yesterday? Denial is an ugly thing.

Thanks for posting that, good stuff

and re: Dukes, speaking of denial, I just deny that he exists. I find I live a much happier life that way.

PS

What does that addictive video game The Simms have to do with anything, Vonnie?

Oh, I see what he meant. ;-)

Funny

This morning I mentioned to Jim Armstrong how the media narrative has driven a perception of the Broncos that has materially affected, eg., betting lines.

He disagreed that the media has such power. But the fact remains that the Broncos began with a 7.5 win line before Vegas had to lower the line to 6 to even out the betting. And if that drop wasn’t based on the constant bashing of the Broncos both nationally and locally, what WAS it based on?

There are real consequences when the “objective” media ceases being objective but still lays claim to the cover of, if not strict objectivity, at least a certain disinterest.

Largent was great though

Steve: "Jamie, tomorrow the headlines will only be “McDaniels gets his first win”
Dukes: “but that is not how you get respect”
WTF????!!!

Ah, thanks for this! Great interview. And not surprising at all!

Carolina's new QB

Panthers just brought in AJ Feeley. Not too surprising given their backup is out for the year now and Delhomme looked bad yesterday. Might be a good opp for McNabb’s longtime backup (and the Eagles were also interested in bringing him back.)
