Pitssburgh vs Chicago - is a tie the best result for Denver?

Am really curious to see what others here think would be the best result

Star-divide

Why we want Pittsburgh to win?

-Chicago's Draft pick - obvious really, nothing more to say.

-Laughing at Cutler - again obvious really.

Why we want Chicago to win?

-If we're serious about the playoffs (and given the state of the AFC West we should be) then we need the AFC big guns to lose at every opportunity (except to San Diego of course)in order to get that home field advantage.

What do you guys think? Who will you be "rooting for"? Is a loss for Pittsburgh better than a slightly better draft pick?

I was also curious about the Seymour trade. Technically we should of course be laughing at how Al Davis has once again debacled himself, giving away a 1st rounder for a player who while clearly at the top of his game, is also 30 and about to descend into the twilight of his career.

The problem is that the Pats won't throw away that 1st rounder, they will almost certainly pick up a great player (or in BB style trade down for a multitude of 2nd and 3rd rounders). As funny as it is seeing Oakland make a mess of things, ultimately a Denver Superbowl run will likely have to go through New England not Oakland. Furthermore you know Al Davis would almost certainly have blown that 1st rounder anyway had he kept it.

So I'd be curious for other's thoughts on this as well?

Well...

A Pittsburgh victory is good for our draft pick next year, but it doesn’t do much in the division, as you said…I’m still pretty smitten with the idea of Cutler throwing another 4 picks. So, in my opinion, I’d like to see Cutler have a terrible day, but ultimately if Chicago comes out with the win, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings either…

All in all, I’m pretty indifferent since there is benefits to both teams winning/losing.

Personally I want to see the Bears lose.

Ben or Jay?

Hi BritBronc! Where you at? I’m in Bangor, Northern Ireland, so can’t be too far away! And good to hear from another Bronco fan this side of the pond…
The points you make are sound, and good to see the Bears are in our rearview mirror already, plus down Urlacher. That said, Hillenmayer isn’t bad as a backup, but still see Pittsburgh having too much D for what, in Chicago’s offense, can’t exactly be christened the best thing on turf. Still makes me wonder why Cutler couldn’t have towed the party line – can you imagine his fantasy stats with the Denver O? Could’ve been scary. Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve! Anyway, what’s done is done, and to be fair to Kyle Orton last Sunday, he did exactly what Cutler has failed to do so many times in tight games, and that was to not turn the ball over. It wasn’t flashy, and boy did the D look improved, but he got the job done. Interesting though that in the crisis leading up to Stokely’s TD, that the WR they threw to (albeit initially!) was Marshall – is he coming around? Sure hope so.
But I digress, despite the confidence that permeates this site, I can’t see the Broncs exceeding much more than 9-7, and whether that’s good enough to squeak into the playoffs, I don’t know, but I love the direction we’re going in. So I’m hoping for a Steelers win, pure and simple, cos a Bears defeat does us so much more good potentially. The Steelers are in a different class to us at present, I’m sad to admit, but I’d rather us pick up as high a #1 as possible. Make sense? Hoping for a big Knowshon performance against the Browns on Sunday…

Hi Mile High Man -

I live in London – been out to Northern Ireland a few times – nice place, great people.
Good to hear from you.

I think 9-7 gets us the AFC West. Norv Turner is going to find a way to drag the Chargers down I swear.

I think everyone here would prefer to see the Pittsburgh victory. Makes sense really – 1 victory which may or may not affect the playoffs which are of course nearly 4 months away, or the chance of a better 1st round pick which will help us long term. Starting to look like a no-brainer!

Anyway I got Pittsburgh at -3 with William Hill so I have no choice – er…go Steelers!!

Stay classy Northern Ireland
plus down Urlacher

I hope for your sake you’re Protestant.

I'm looking for a Steelers victory

We won’t get better by them not doing as well, but we will improve with a nice pick. It is probably premature to think that this is a Super Bowl year for us: if it is, it has to be by beating the best.

On the other hand, the Bears are vulnerable right now. They are missing Urlacher and the O line hasn’t played well – it’s an open door for the Steelers to walk through. I’m rooting for Pittsburgh

Pitt to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It helps with our draft pick next yeear! Pitt will lose some games this year we all know that. Our schedule is brutal, im hoping we make the play offs. Plus how can any real BRONCOS fan root foe Cutler to get a win!!!!!!!!! Pitts D will be all over him. GB just switched to the 3-4 and they had a feild day against the Bears O line. Pitt will throw everyting at him.

From Franchise to franchise to schmuck...

The fall from grace has begun. More ints, another sub-40 passer rating, the Bears implode, and the pick, our pick, gets better each week! The Broncos will be holding a winner like Park Place and Boardwalk with 2 hotels!!

There is still plenty of season left for Pitt to slide, especially if Big Ben keeps getting himself clobbered.

Yeah I gotta go with a BIG Cutler meltdown

that would make me the happiest.
Some kind of bad game and him yelling at his teammates. Now thats good TV ;-)

That would be sweet.

Just seeing his surly face at a press conference blaming his receivers would be priceless.

Agreed.....

You gotta go with the Bears loss, guaranteed help (draft pick), and ending the day with a smile (Cutler 0-2) over worrying about what might possibly maybe has a chance of happening down the road in wild card standings.

2-3 picks for Cutler and a loss makes me a happy fan. Cutler yelling at teammates would just be icing on the cake.

Now, I loved laughing at Cutler last week

but I predict he will have a better game this week. Troy P is out, and Cutler will be very cautious this week. He does NOT want a repeat performance. I’ll bet he only throws 1 pick against the Steelers, if any. But then he’ll get his confidence back, try to force the ball in a week or two, and the Chicagoland faithful can get right back on the roller coaster. One horrible game, one great one, one mediocre one, and then the cycle continues.

and even if they weren’t, I still want Cutler and the Bears to lose.

Bears lose...

… all year. THAT’S what I am rooting for!

by topnation on Sep 18, 2009 9:32 PM MDT reply actions

Nah.

They need to win enough for us to get a decent value on the pick. 1-5 are money down the drain unless we get a rookie cap in place. Even then…..I’d be thrilled with something like 10 – 12 if it happens.

I agree with you broncobear

But I’m still rooting against them each & every game this year nonetheless.

People can use statistics to prove anything, 87% of all people know that.

I agree Broncobear

although a rookie cap would go a long way to us being able to get some more quality free agents

Yup me too

I want Cutler to fail utterly and unequivocally. I want MSN to remove the “franchise” misnomer they applied to Culter and apply whatever tag they used to describe Ryan Leaf at the end. Suffice it to say I’m pissed at pouty boy and hope his career goes quickly down the toilet. Other than that, I don’t really have an opinion.

I picked Pittsburgh this week

…but I fear that’s my heart speaking and not my head. Without Polamalu, Pittsburgh is not near as dangerous defensively, and the Bears did a pretty good job containing a prolific offense in Green Bay last week.

Cutler has a chance to redeem himself in the home opener, and because I’m not sure Pittsburgh’s offense is going to perform terribly well against the Bears this weekend, I think a few big plays could take this one. And Cutler has the capability to make those big plays.

by JeffG on Sep 19, 2009 9:05 AM MDT reply actions

I'd agree on Polamalu except......

Urlacher is out as well. I think Polamalu is the better player as Urlacher has lost a step, however without Polamalu the Pitt defense still has studs and playmakers. Urlacher is absolutely the heart of the Chicago defense, and his supporting cast are not nearly as strong as Polamalu’s. I think the Urlacher injury hurts Chicago more than Polamalu hurts the Steelers.

by Kgrone on Sep 19, 2009 12:00 PM MDT up reply actions

Well, Urlacher was out most of the game against GB

and they still held Rogers mostly in check.

The Steeler’s o-line is shoddy. The Bears pash line was getting good push against the Packers.

I want the Bears to bomb. But they could win this one by a pair of TDs.

Pittsburgh is my

fantasy defense. So I guess I’m hoping for five + picks AND fumbles from ole J-Cut,
