WOW!

We looked great in that second half!

Get in line, haters.

Pretty despicable the way fans were booing Orton early on. I realize it’s part of sports, and this team ‘has’ to prove itself under a new regime.. but too bad we can’t take the season tickets from those fickle a-holes and pass them around to MHR members.

Guess you don’t follow sports outside of Colorado.

Try Miami, Philly, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and several other cities.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

by McGeorge on Sep 20, 2009 6:21 PM MDT up reply actions

Many fanbases are fickle...

…but none couple it with ignorance quite like Denver fans. Read comments on places like Denver Post and 9news.com.. are people really that stupid? They hate Marshall because he’s black and they hate Josh because he’s young. They should just stay locked in their basements with their shotgun in their laps.

by ELGee on Sep 20, 2009 6:33 PM MDT up reply actions

Those are trolls....

not Broncos fans. And, for the record, other cities’ local websites (as well as MSM sites) have exactly the same type of people (trolls) on them as well. Again, those are NOT fans. In case you haven’t read it here on MHR 10,000 times….. ignore the Denver Post and other similar local message boards. 99% of the people on there are not fans and there is nothing of substance to gain by reading them.

Agreed

If you think Broncos fans are fickle, try reading boards for just about any other team in pro sports. I’d say it’s a tie for most fickle, Broncos fans with… every other team’s. There’s a lot of garbage out there and a lot of fickle behavior in the stands for a lot of teams.

That said I thought booing Orton early in the game was pretty impatient and ignorant.

You're right, McG

Ignorance in the fanbase isn’t exactly unusual. There are a lot of folks historically more absurd than the Broncos’ fans. I think that a lot of folks remember the days when everyone seemed to generally agree that Elway was the QB, Shanahan the coach and most folks were supportive while they tend to forget the “Fire Wade/Reeves/etc” eras. Most folks liked Shanahan, even the ones who believed that he should leave. There is a bigger schism due to the Shanny firing, the trading of Cutler and the process of McDaniels creating the team that we are so happy with today. It will take time to heal, and perhaps some factions never will. Even so, it was a great win and I’m not going to worry about the folks that can’t seem to enjoy it.

I guess we don't agree on exactly what fickle means...

Webster defines fickle as: marked by lack of steadfastness, constancy, or stability: given to erratic changeableness.

I should have used a different word. I guess the fans you’re (McG) talking about fit the first part of the definition— the apathetic fans. Those fans don’t show up during down years and show up late to games in up years, talk on their cell phones all game, and generally don’t give a f*ck. If you thought I was referring to the “steadfastness” part of the definition, which is admittedly the main part of the definition, I can see your point. What I was referring to was the "stability’ portion of the definition. I apologize for the confusion.

It just seems like this collective fanbase loses its shit over everything. I disagree with bear here (it’s rare). Sure, this year has been tumultuous, but the unstable bronco fan has been around for years. John Elway was boo’d loudly in the early 1990’s. Brian Griese and Jake Plummer were treated terribly by the fans. Hell, if I was Jake, I would have stood up and gave those a-holes the double rods, and a crotch grab followed by the universal “suck it” signal for good measure. Now, we have a new coach and a QB and the fans were grumbling on the first couple possessions and every incompletion in the second quarter, then booing Mr. Bowlen to top it off. It’s hard to watch and downright embarrassing.

Once I thought about it a little longer this morning, the other fanbase that’s as bad are the Eagles. Philly notoriously booed Santa Clause, and their treatment of McNabb has been very questionable. We’ll see how New England’s fanbase holds-up this year if they struggle significantly. I haven’t watched a ton of NE games over the past few years, but I believe even in the down years they didn’t boo Brady, and I believe they gave Cassel a chance (i.e., not booing every incompletion during the first half of his first home start) early last year. Hell, the fans in Oakland don’t boo Russell when his completion percentage is hovering around 30%. Then, you have the fans in places like Seattle that will likely cheer on a guy like Seneca Wallace this weekend— can you imagine his reception at Invesco? Fans in KC always seem to be very supportive of their ballclubs, selling out and cheering their teams on during 3-13 seasons. I can never remember that crowd booing their players during down years (maybe that’s because the only time I get to see their games is when they were whipping up on us late in the year ;) ).

I still stand by my original point, it would be hard to find a fanbase as eager to turn on its club more than Broncos fans. I agree that the trolls over @ DP are not representative and widespread among the league, but we have to face the fact that there are a large number of broncos fans that are extremely pessimistic and negative. I know a ton of them in Montana and a few are season ticket holders. I don’t really understand the reasoning. Maybe it’s because the club has been so successful? Maybe it’s the local media whipping people into a frenzy? I’m not really sure, but whatever it is, it sure is tough to watch.

orton

i didn’t find it unreasonable booing orton. our defense is out there playing their hearts out. orton was given ample time to throw and is expected to hit open receivers, thats his job. i also like the way buckhalter is running.

Kyle Orton looked fine for his second game in the system and a glove on his hand.

Count me among his fans. The fans booing early was downright embarrassing. It was like the fans that hijacked the open threads on draft day took over the stadium. It was ugly.

ORTON IS THE ANSWER!!!

by ButteBronco on Sep 20, 2009 5:25 PM MDT reply actions

Both the local and national media created those booing puppets.

And yes, it’s despicable.

Fortunately, the guys doing play by play pointed out that the receivers were closely covered, and that throwing the ball away was often the best play.

The defense was awesome, again

the offense started clicking. The running game didn’t get going till the second half. orton looked a lot more comfortable, had a few bad passes but they hit dirt and not the defense.

The fans bood orton, because they suck and they hate anyone who doesn’t throw a 50 yard laser… But orton played well

I love how Dawgs By Nature

Gave the QB, RB and OL edge to themselves, and called WR a push. Those guys were friendly enough, but geez-zus is that that delusional. Glad we don’t have to interact with them again this season. There’s just no football sense involved.
