Around SBN: Roy Nelson Willing to Pay for His Next Opponent's Drug Test

Darrius Heyward-BLAH

The raiders have Darrius Heyward-Bey as their deep receiving threat, and that's all he is; a threat. Heyward-Bey has all the physical attributes to be a major contributor for the Raiders, including the size (6-'2"), and the speed (4.3 in the 40). However, the 7th overall pick in the draft has a pair of stone hands and can't catch the ball. Jokeland is in desperate need of a play maker for their passing game and only time will tell if Heyward-Bey is the answer they're looking for.

Star-divide

In Week 1 against the Dolts, DHB had three drops, not including one that was negated by a penalty elsewhere on the field. At that point, he was the virtual equivalent to Michael Crabtree; a WR that didn't have any catches in the NFL, the lone exception being Heyward-Bey has a contract. They both seem to be suffering from a swollen head.

Heyward-Bey said he had a "solid" game against the Chargers. He explained that his role is to use his speed to pull the safety over, opening things up for the other receivers.

"I'm just sitting back doing my job," He said. "That's my job in this offense. That's what I do."

I'm sure the #7 pick is expected to do more than that. After all, teams don't normally pay $23 million for a decoy, unless you're the Cryptkeeper.

Darrius got off the schnied in week 2 against the Chiefs, getting his first reception of the year after being targeted 10 times. The reception was for 18 yards. The Raiders have no hope of beating teams with the pass, and Heyward-Bey, like most rookie receivers do, continues to struggle with the pro game. The Raiders desperately need him to be a scoring threat who runs precise routes and catches every ball within reach.

On the other side, 4th-round rookie Louis Murphy outdid Heyward-Bey in his first NFL start (4 Rec.for 87 yards). Murphy fills in for starter Chaz Schilens, as Schilens has been nursing a foot injury, and may return this week at the earliest.

Murphy had 2 catches for 26 yards against the Chiefs as JaMarcus Russell struggled for the 2nd straight week. He will likely lose some snaps once Chaz returns to the field. But if other teams catch on that Louis Murphy is the only wideout that can catch for the raiders, opposing Defenses will declare open season on them.

The lone highlight of the faders passing attack came when Russell made a huge play, hooking up with the other rookie, Louis Murphy for a go-ahead 57-yard TD late in the 4th quarter versus the Chiefs. But really, the only good news for the faders passing game is that "The Hutt" seems to be developing a great rapport with tight end Zach Miller.

With Robert Gallery out with a broken leg, and JaMarcus the Hutt wobbling around with a bum knee, Champ Bailey and Andre' Goodman shouldn't have to cover oakland's receivers for very long, before DOOM hits.

I'll log out with a quote that Chibronx made about oakland:

"Between worrying about getting cold-cocked by the coach and eaten by the quarterback, I expect the (raiders) players to play hard."

That was fun to vote no.

The 7th overall pick… Wow. This guy has never been a productive football player on game day. 7th overall… Blows my mind. He is another Mike Mamula

Love the Broncos. Mike Nolan is a genius.

Yes, I'll give him one.

Yeah, he can catch one

but only if they let him stay on a shorter route. I doubt he gets anything deep. PS, who is Mike what’s his name?

by idahobronc on Sep 22, 2009 3:54 PM MDT reply actions

Yes.

And it will be followed immediately by a bone-jarring hit from Dawkins, causing a fumble that will be recovered by Phonz, who will juke the Hutt out of his shoes enroute to six points.

Braylon Edwards caught a few passes off of our defense

and it really made no difference in the outcome. Bey can catch a few as well but the thing is don’t let him break one. Pressure Russell and play like they did the last 2 weeks and we should hold our #1 defense status. Let them run and we may have some trouble…just saying…

and the Broncos cut Chad Jackson.

Wait a minute...

You mean Jamarcus has to throw and ball and Bey has to catch it? That’s a lot of ifs. Too many for me.

LMFAO

That was money!

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

This is tough for me being a Maryland grad. Nothing worse then having the raiders drafting any of my terps. Regardless, go BRONCOS!

DHB

will be as effective as chris henry was in week one. i remember palmer saying how he didn’t go deep to henry because he was covered every time except for that one catch for 18 yards. so with that said, i voted that dhb will get his second catch

by milehighnation on Sep 22, 2009 9:39 PM MDT reply actions

DHB Who?

All I know is they drafted who we should have picked in Louis Murphy… Watching him play at Florida and over his two games in the NFL I think this guy has huge potential. No disrespect to McKinley but if I’m drafting SEC I take Murphy… All that said Raider week is very fun, lets hope this new D we have can keep Hut on his hiney all day long.
