Just What We Thought...

Remember before the season started how John Clayton and co. had predicted the Broncos to barely reach 5 wins?  John Clayton thought that we'd only have three wins.  THREE wins!!!!  We predicted that everyone, especially the MSM, would pick against the Broncos in the first few weeks (and probably in weeks to come too).  We believed that once we won those games, the MSM would say, "Well, come on people, it's the Bengals and the Browns.  Anyone can beat those teams."  We predicted that they would make excuses such as that.  To prove that we were right in believing this, I have a little story...

Star-divide

I was talking to my friend who is a huge Bengals fan.  I live in Cincinnati, so this isn't uncommon.  He knows how big of a Broncos fan I am and he gets annoyed a lot because of it.  We were talking football and I asked him who he thought would win all the divisions and make the wild card.  I'll skip ahead to the AFC West.  My friend believes that San Diego is going to win the AFC West, which isn't a huge surprise.  What is a surprise is that he thinks they are going to go to the Super Bowl where they'll lose.  So then I asked him why he thought they were going to win the West.  He said because of how great their offense is and that their defense just has a few kinks to be worked out (more like their whole defense!).  I then argued that defense wins championships and he disagreed a little with that theory.  Then I asked him, "Why don't you think Denver will win the West?"  He said because their defense is terrible and because Kyle Orton isn't that good of a quarterback.  I was totally bewildered when he said that.  I told him that we had the #2 ranked defense in the league and he asked, "Well who did they play?"  The Bengals and Browns.  Then he said, "Well that's why their defense is ranked so high.  Just wait until they play a team like the Cowboys."

Do you see where I'm coming from?  It seems like everyone is against this team; they refuse to believe in us.  We're going to have to go out and prove them wrong.  We could go 13-3 this year and the next year, the MSM would probably STILL pick the Chargers to win the AFC West.  Hopefully tomorrow we blow the raiders out of existance and then maybe the MSM will see that we could be for real.

It pays to be the only vote in a poll

Good post broncoholic,

I had to vote yes because the MSM will have to eventually realize that we are a very different team this year. I just hope other teams will read MSM articles instead of looking at film. That would make our season much easier.

I think what’s happening is they are waiting for the grueling stretch that starts tomorrow on the road then runs through Dallas, New England, San Diego, Baltimore, and Pittsburg. The MSM has us penned in at losing all those games.

This will be a fun season.

I don't think the msm will

If we beat one of the “better” teams then they’ll just say we got lucky or that the “better” team had an off night. Then they’ll go on about how we’ll lose the next 8 games. The following week….repeat of the previous. Personally, even if we come out .500 against the next 7 games, I don’t think denver will get any respect.

by milehighnation on Sep 26, 2009 3:33 PM MDT reply actions

Not uncommon

Remember our 13-3 2005 season? We were dominant! And when we beat the patriots in the playoffs, anyone recall the MSM response? “Brady gives up the game.” “Broncos didn’t win; Patriots lost.” “Patriot tight end makes great play on interception return in a loss to some team.”

We’ve seen it before. We’ll see it again. No respect til we get that trophy.

Agreed...

Of course we’re going 13-3, but for arguments sake, let’s say we go 10-6. I still don’t think this gets us any respect. It will take a playoff win I believe. Otherwise, I’m thinking the media stays down on us until at least next year.

With so many different things that can affect the outcome of a football game, when we continue to win games, the media will have no shortage of excuses to explain why we win.
- luck
- ‘trap game’ for the other team
- refs
- ‘off night’ for opposing qb
- injuries
- etc etc

I see no respect for us for quite some time, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Yeah. When I wear my Brandon Marshall jersey around town, I feel all these looks directed at me.

I laugh at this and wonder if it is a good idea to wear it. (Yes it is…I’d wear it now matter what!!!)

hahaha, I hear ya.

One time I went to Buffalo Wild Wings with my Marshall jersey and I was just praying the server wasn’t gonna spit in my food.

Does it really matter what the msm think? No.

The more they dis us the more this team will be fired up to prove them wrong. If they are wrong they wouldn’t admit it so, what does it matter. As long as we play tough, smart and win occasionally I don’t care what they think. 13-3 Baby!!! Until we ain’t.

by bfree2bronc on Sep 26, 2009 4:04 PM MDT reply actions

I agree. I just want to see this team get the respect that it deserves.

To reitrate another response...

I just responded to broncolorado’s call to name the defense with a bit of caution. I don’t want to jinx things while the season is so young but, your Bengals’ fan friend hit the nail on the head. He agreed with Mark Schlereth’s assumtion of the defense, calling it terrible.

Wth a little luck, the offense will continue to progress and, if the defense remains terrible, the Broncos will go farther than anyone in the MSM predicted.

Terrible defense seems to win games.

SCHLERETH

was very respectful of the Broncos defense the last time he was doing his Monday night radio show Full Tilt or whatever it is called. He is coming around quickly.

I voted "Yes" because:

You can’t win your division title and not be a good team. They will have their TV’s on for the post season, they will see us there, so they will see the Broncos as a good football team, lol.

So your friend watched us dismantle the great

Cincinnati Bengals offense and still gave us no props…..wow.

Broncoholic …. guess wat the joke will be on him then!

I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. Coach Norman Dale "Hoosiers"

My friend and everyone else in Cincinnati writes it off as luck.

I tried to tell him that Green Bay gave up 31 points against them and their defense was supposed to be better than ours. He doesn’t care. I have decided to stop trying to get people in Cincy to believe that our team is going to be good.

I am the same way

I watch my team and form my own opinion and never really cared what non-bronco fans and the MSM have to say about my team.

Oh by the way

I voted no because we have only gotten respect twice IMO and that is the two years we won the SB. There may have been other times, however those two years are the most recent.

The media will see a good team, but they won’t like it. And they surely won’t admit it.

I can understand the "wait untl the Cowboys" concept, though

I have circled that game as a barometer of how much I am going to hope for, from a low of 8 and 8 to the sky’s the limit.
As for the MSM and fans of other teams, I mentioned in a comment that every time a new power team emerges, it catches everyone but their own fans by surprise, and I still think that is true.

by idahobronc on Sep 27, 2009 12:08 AM MDT reply actions

I voted no

If we make it to the Super Bowl, the MSM will still be talking about Cleveland, Cinci and Oakland, and what the heck the Broncos are doing at the Super Bowl…..

Bias Bias Bias….it’s starting to look like the PFHOF lmao..
