The Josh McDaniels Show 9-26-09
The weekly coaches show was on tonight, so I thought I would give some commentary for the folks that wouldn't be able to tune in outside of Colorado. This show is hosted by Vic Lombardi and Garry Miller, and it takes place every Saturday evening during the season.
Vic Lombardi: What was it like having family at the game?
Coach McDaniels: "It was nice to have some family members out at the game, and to celebrate a win in the Home Opener. My kids got to run around on the field after the game."
VL: Did your Dad grade your game?
McD: "Yeah, my Dad, he graded me out at a B- yeah, he saw a lot of the little things we were trying to do."
"We're 2-0 and that's all we are. We are facing a tough challenge this week."
VL: What is the most important position in the 3-4? Ron Fields?
GM: Andra Davis?
McD: "Well, I'm going to say, that certainly the Nose Tackle is the most important, that and the Middle LB."
On the Raiders:
"They play extremely hard the entire game. They have great Special Teams, they are fast and they are strong."
On the Black Hole:
"It is a great place to play. It can be an intimidating place to play if you let it."
On the Raiders Offense:
"The Screen game is a big part of what they do on Offense. It doesn't matter who they run it to. McFadden, Bush or Fargas, they all run it well. And they use it 5 or 6 times a game."
"We need to handle their Screens. It was a big part of their game last year. They have so much speed on their Offense that our Defense needs to stay at home. Especially in case of misdirection plays."
On the Raiders Defense:
"They like to funnel everything to the center of the field. Nnamdi Asomugha is one of the top 5 Corners in the game, and the front 4 is disruptive. Michael Huff is definitely a factor."
Ryan Clady vs. Richard Seymour
VL: How impressed were you with Ryan when you got here?
McD: "I was very impressed with Ryan with both his Pass Blocking and his Run Blocking. He's definitely improved his Run Blocking.
"The whole line is getting ready for Seymour, whether they block him by themselves, or have help. Certainly Clady will see some 1 on 1 with Seymour. He will be placed up and down the line. He (Seymour) has great agility for a man his size. He's pretty amazing."
VL: We are seeing a different Defense this year. It is more physical.
"When we were building this team, that's what we went after, Tough and Physical players."
Fan Question
Are we going to see the Wildcat this year?
"You may see it sometime this season. We may sprinkle it in from time to time."
On Brandon Marshall and the passing game in particular,i.e., nobody is standing out:
"I've been pleased with Brandon since the Cincinnati game. We haven't had any breakthrough game for any one Receiver. But we're winning. We are still gelling. We are still learning and starting to build trust with one another. We really feel that this team has an excellent opportunity to improve each week, from Week 1 to Week 17. This game will be a 1 on 1 game for our Wide Receivers. If they are getting catches, then they are doing their job getting open."
Vonnie Holliday has a question for Coach McDaniels.
VH: Who was your favorite Athlete as a kid?
"Joe Montana. He was incredible when I was a kid."
Kid McD is really impressing me with his knowledge and savvy. I think we scored getting such a good coach.
Beat them raiders!
13-3 Baby!

hey Kap
Thanks for doing this, even for those of us who can watch and just don’t remember to catch the program.
His answers about the nose tackle certainly gel with what I’ve seen from Fields. What a steal for the Broncos to sign this guy.
Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.

LOVE this! Great feature! Thank you KK!
Intriguing bit about the wildcat. Know + Buck… and Orton lined up wide would really crack me up!

It was designed for Hillis
The Wildcat was originally designed for Hillis at Arkansas. He got hurt and McFadden ended up running it. So don’t be shocked to see Peyton at QB.

Thats great info. Thanks OC!
Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

Re: Montana
“Joe Montana. He was incredible when I was a kid.”
It’s interesting that he picks Montana, the ultimate cerebral quarterback.

Thanks for the post Kirk
Is it me, or is he starting to look a lot more comfortable talking with the media? Hey do you know, by chance, what the deal is with Knowshon? Is he supposed to play? I don’t guess I even know what his injury is.
he is
questionable with a groin injury that happened Thursday

Thanks guys
Yeah, not a good sign for long-term, but it’s early. I know he’s not exactly crucial to the game, but I really hope to see him out there. I just get the feeling that he’s been behind, but that he’s now just a single juke away from breaking one off.
There wasn't any mention
of any RB’s or injuries for that matter during the program.

Thanks a lot, Kaptain
This guy is a very special coach! It’s good to see the local media beginning to show a smattering of respect. I think he was so badly hammered after #6 departed, that he was seen by the media as distant and aloof. I’ll bet that those who know him consider him as a friendly and warm, albeit, intense person. Not one who suffers fools well.
Thanks for posting, sir

Thanks Kaptain...I don't getthe 'Josh' show
Yet I enjoy it with your reports.

Gonsoulin, Taylor, Little, Wright, Gradishar, Atwater, Davis, and Sharpe...
Why are they not in the Hall...I just don't understand.
Thank you Kaptain.
It’s nice to hear the coach talking about the upcoming games and stuff. Hopefully we pull out the win.

I think i can speak for the group.... lol
I would love it if you would do that for us! Even if it is just a few notes about what he has to say. Anything is appreciated
Thanks Kap!
If you are going to be too busy sometimes, let me know and I can help you out; I watch it every week, and I type fast. ;)
I think we could even do a full transcript with a little teamwork. :D
It's Orange Crush Time!
Sounds great!
Kap’n, it will be highly appreciated if you do or don’t! (don’t as in; appreciated for the ones you’ve already done)
I’ve already loved the two you’ve put up so far…. And I am certainly not opposed to the ‘full transcript’ notion either. ; )
First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and we oughtta let someone else have a fair shot : )

It is Local
CBS out of Denver. It comes through to Colorado Springs. It must be the regional CBS feed.

McD sure likes system QBs
Since he mentioned that his favorite athlete was Joe Montana, now it all makes sense.
thanks for doing this Kaptain Kirk
Living in Maui, I never used to get any Bronco news. Then along came MHR (fist thing I click on every morning). Then this year came the IPhone with simulcast KOA radio on it so I can hear Dave Logan’s broadcast and the pre and post game show. It also has the Sirius radio app so I can listen to NFL channel all the time. Direct TV improved their TV signal so this year I can have Sunday ticket and watch the games. Now with Kirk giving the coaches show update I feel like I get as much info as if I were in Denver. Thanks MHR for keeping all of us Bronco lovers who do not live in Co so well informed.
Good job Kaptain.
Hey, i’m gonna shoot you an email sometime this week about double-teaming a full transcript for the remaining broadcasts of this show, since it’s local and most of the guys here at MHR can’t watch it.
I watch it every single week and my saturday nights are always open (I don’t get out an party like I used to, haha).
I love the show. They (Vic and Gary) have been very consistant so far in the show. The guys start it off talking about last weeks game, and then continue with a long Q&A between themselves and Coach McDaniels, usually featuring one of the Coach’s players (this week they had a video clip featuring our DL Holiday as Kaptain quoted in the article), followed by a breakdown of a few plays (either McD or the replay machine drives me nuts with the rewind button! But I haven’t yet deternined the culprit, lol) and then end it out with a few more notes on the upcoming game.
McDaniels gives a lot more insight than I expected (seeing as how he likes to keep so many things a secret) but he still smiles and laughs at a few questions that he’s obviously not going get into details on, haha. It’s a great watch, and I think you guys would enjoy the full transcript.
KK did a great job, because it probably runs close to 20 minutes of dialogue; quite a beastly undertaking for one person, but he nailed almost all of the key moments.
Again, great job Kaptain, and i’m looking forward to next week!
It's Orange Crush Time!
E-mail received and replied.
Thanks very much, Bfree, Alex ,Maui, and Boydy. Just trying to do my part.

Good to have
If there was some way I could get the show, I would kindly request that you not put in so much work.
But seeing as I have no way to view it – keep bustin’ a$$! ( ;
Just kiddin’ – There aren’t words that exist that allow me to fully express my gratitude for half the things members do to contribute to this site. And this (these), Dude’s ‘Abide’ posts, and all the training camp efforts definitely jump to mind and stand out. Big o’
THANK YOU!
Let us know in a comment if you and Wall get something worked out? Thanks again Kaptain!

If you're feeling really ambitious
maybe you could capture it and post it to YouTube and embed it!
But that’s way overkill — the transcript is fantastic!! Thanks!!

I don't know how to do that.

finding ways to complicate the already awesome is one of my specialties, along with doing a lot of unnecessary work for no reason. ; )
