Broncos believe they have a special coach
Some of the quotes from a story by Bill Williamson --
Vonnie Holliday -
The Broncos, after 14 years of mostly good times in the Mike Shanahan era, were being questioned nationally. There were whispers about whether the kid from Canton, Ohio, would go one and done in Denver. There was arguably no coach in the history of the NFL who faced more scrutiny before walking the sideline for the first time than McDaniels.
"I heard all of that," Holliday said Sunday. "But when I was talking to some coaches on this staff, guys who were much older and much more experienced than Coach McDaniels, they said, ‘Don’t listen.’ They said some good things were happening here. They said Coach McDaniels was special ... it didn’t take me long to realize they were right. There’s something about Josh McDaniels."
Brandon Stokley -
From our first meeting I knew [Denver owner Pat] Bowlen made the right decision, We’re lucky we have him. We’ve all bought into his plan."

A few points...
First…I would suggest to not read the comments under the article. Pathetic and naive people making b.s. comments. But we already knew that.
Second…Is it just me or was this goof not all over McD all summer? So now their 3-0 and this guy seems to think we wont remember that he was on the other side of the fence. Now I understand he’s just reporting what players are saying to him but I’m sure he was part of the divided locker room crowd, and the players against McD crowd. So what happened? He decided to actually interview a player or ask a question or two? Where were you before big guy? This is exactly what I didn’t want to see. The longer these punks stay against us, the better. When we actually lose a game they’ll jump right back off and say I told you so. But again I suppose I shouldn’t be so mad because we all expected this anyway.
Third…"The people that we care about and their opinions are the ones in our building. We know what we are doing. We feel comfortable and confident in our players, with who we drafted and what we’ve done. I’ve never wavered from it for one minute and we aren’t now." McD…..thats a coach folks. That’s the guy that’s going to return us to our rightful spot atop the NFL.

I haven't heard....
even a whisper from Clayton the last week or so regarding the Broncos; not the slightest mention. Although I do avoid listening, reading or even seeing him as much as possible, so that could have something to do with it. Still, even though it’s early in the season, being 3 – 0 is like being Super Bowl contenders relative to how dreadful he and many other MSM “experts” thought we’d be. And yet, we can’t even get a half-ass, begrudging, “They have surprised me, but it’s still early and they haven’t really beaten anyone.” At least some MSM “experts” and analysts have conceded that limited bit of acknowledgment and praise.
From Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson’s “Winners/Losers” article (this bullet was under the “Losers” portion of the article):
• Hyperbolic NFL analysts
I’m not going to rip anyone specifically, but I could not believe the number of television analysts who were questioning the future of New England’s Brady. This is what makes the media look so ridiculous – that after only two games, people are wondering whether Brady will ever be the same. It was two games. Did we honestly think there would be zero period of adjustment? We’d all be better served if analysts didn’t feel more inclined to be logical rather than provocative.
Is he serious? How hypocritical can you get? Is this not identical to how he and just about every other MSM “expert” treated and reacted to the Broncos this offseason? And that was before ANY games had been played, let alone two. I realize we can’t do the reverse and declare the Broncos Super Bowl contenders after only 3 games, just as it’s incredibly premature to predict the fall of Brady and the Patriots empire after only 2 games (which they beat a decent Falcons team today). But is Charles Robinson SERIOUSLY acting as if he’s somehow a cut above his peers because he actually thinks he’s the “logical” one compared to the rest of the “provocative” driven media? What a joke.

As an outside observer
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a coach’s reputation make such a quick 180 in the good direction as McDaniels from the end of the preseason to today. I’m happy though – I picked the Broncos to win the West in a pool I have with my friends, so keep it up and win me some money!

I am stoked but still sort of feel (IMHO of course) SD wins the division, Denver in second with 8-8. But that opinion could change depending on what happens in the next month.
I’ve been giddy with Faider stomping joy all night but to be the best you BEAT the best and when we go toe to toe with SD we’ll see.
But anyone who has ever been lucky enough observe excellence at any level remebers what it was like; what they saw. And to paraphrase the indelicate words of Ricky Bobby, McDaniels wakes up every morning and pees it. Watch him, listen to him and better yet listen to what his peers and players say. That’s more often than not the true measure of a man, how much his contemporaries respect him.
So I will continue to maintain – orange kool aid in hand – that win or lose, this team will improve each week and show up better prepared for every opponent than anyone expects.
Man, what a day. Can’t wait to see Raider Fan tomorrow.
LET’S GO BRONCOS!!!

+1
Great comments. Not convinced that SD wins the division, but not sure they won’t either. I think they’re vulnerable (and they have Norv Turner as their coach), so if we continue to do what we’ve been doing and, as you said, improve each week, then I say we at least have a shot at the division. And that’s all I can ask for this year (and more than most others expected).
I agree, though, that to be the best, you beat the best. And regardless if we attain that “status” this year, I think that, even as quick as next year, we will be quickly climbing back to that great (perhaps elite) status in the league. I love the look and feel of this team and believe we are headed towards great things.
What a great win! GO BRONCOS!

It's their choice to print what they print
and I have no problem with holding them accountable if they’re running down our team. Fish, barrel. Sure, but still fun. : )
Ultimately, though, I could care less about what people say about the Broncos. All that matters to me are the Ws and Ls. We’re about to get a few Ls. I’m interested to see how we respond to those more than how we respond to the talking heads.

Jeez people, lay off Clayton
Dude just does his job. It’s you’re fault for actually taking his opinions to heart. I don’t care what any of those “professional analysists” say. At the end of the day they are watching the exact same thing as you and I. It’s not like they know something we don’t. We are watching the same story unfold. My advice: next time, just don’t listen to them.

LOL!
We have a vendetta now? I didn’t see that movie — do we get to wear those wacky masks with the pencil thin mustaches?
The only thing that would lend credence to Clayton is if we lose the next 16 games. He’s a big boy — his credence will take care of itself or flame out under its own underpowered irrelevance.
Meanwhile, those of us who were confident in what we were seeing out of camp this year, and suffered the slings and arrows of fools for saying so, have every right to gloat, IMO. Personally, I won’t overdo it … until we beat the Bolts. ^^

I don't have a problem with anybody doing thier job.
Unfortunately these fools didn’t do their jobs. How is it that 1000 people on this site saw something positive and knew we’d be 3-0? Even if they didn’t know we’d be 3-0 we all knew we’d be better than Oakland and KC. How is it that these professional analysts didn’t know this? To me that says they’re not doing their job. They all looked at superficial signs and didn’t dig for anything meaningful. They get paid to do this we don’t. They are professional sports analysts we are not. This is their job not ours. We have day jobs. How do we find the time to put some thought into our analysis when these guys get paid to do it and don’t and aren’t held accountable. You could say “Well they have a lot of teams to cover.” Ya but we have day jobs and no access to inside information. Tell me how that works? What about the DP guys. It is their sole job to look at the Bronco’s and they can’t even do that. All I ask is for someone to do their job properly. Anybody with a whiff of knowledge knew we were winning on Sunday. It wasn’t even a concern of mine once. How the hell were the experts against us? KC to win the division. Are these people smoking crack? Seriously imagine everybody else did such a shit job at their work. The world would be even more f’d up. Do your job clowns.

To add to that...
Yes I know we don’t have to listen and I’ve never read anything Clayton or Woody have written first hand but common, to say they’re just doing their jobs is flat wrong. I suppose I’m just ranting.
by T.Dot_Bronco on Sep 28, 2009 8:54 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think we are on the same page about what they're get paid to do
But I wish there was more of that in the biz.
by rururuland784 on Sep 28, 2009 9:46 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's probably true....
maybe you’re right. In an ideal world these analysts would be getting paid to analyze. However as you imply, they are paid for their ability to create discussion and push buttons. It’s an unfortunate fact in our society these days. But the fact remains they predicted Oakland and KC to both be better. Even with the smallest amount of research possible, you’d have to be insane to make that prediction period. Now I’m not saying they should have seen the Bronco’s as a top tier team (quite frankly neither do I and I stand by my 8-8 prediction) but for Clayton, for example, to make predictions without performing the slightest due diligence is b.s. Maybe he did, and maybe he’s just a poor predictor. But if I were in charge at ESPN I would at least hope that to maintain the slightest bit of credibility my columnists would put in the proper work to produce the best possible product. Maybe ESPN doesn’t care about the credibility of their organization or that of their employees.
My last point is, ok even if you don’t want to buy my arguement, why did they pick on the Bronco’s this summer. We were an easy target correct? We had a lot of question marks it’s true. But what exactly did Oakland and KC do in their eyes that made them so much better than us? What did SD do to make them championship contenders all of a sudden? Why the Broncos? KC has just as many question marks but all i heard this offseason was how brilliant Hayley and Pioli were. They fired their OC a week before the season for pete’s sake. I have to believe that there is something else at play here.
