An Annoyance
Through this Brandon Marshall what-have-you I have become extremely annoyed with a little factoid (used correctly in this case) that is being thrown around. Nearly every article I read about Marshall claims that Cutler demanded to be traded and "forced his way out of town". Why is this taken as fact? The idea of Cutler asking for a trade is not necessarily causally linked to Cutler being traded. In actuality, the facts point in the opposite direction: Cutler pitched a fit because the Broncos were listening to trade offers. So when they follow through on these discussions, it means they caved to his demands? Non sequitur, I claim.

Yes and No
While I think that Cutler handled the whole thing in a ridiculous manner, I do agree with you. The fact is, no player can ever “force” his way out of town. Even John Elway didn’t completely “force” a trade from Baltimore, but they wouldn’t have dared to not trade him after spending the 1st pick of the draft on him.
However, he did make the decision to trade him an awful lot easier from the Broncos standpoint. It was give and take.

Well, if you believe Peter King, after Bates went to USC, Cutler and his agent approached the Broncos and asked for a trade….before the whole Matt Cassel thing went down.

Dude
THAT is the point that is missed in 98% of all arguments in the whole Cutler saga.

I was looking for that link, thanks Lebowski
So, hopefully that answers your question poorboy, Cutler had already “pitched a fit” and asked to be traded when Shanny and Bates were released. The Cassell thing was just another opportunity for he and his agent Jerry er Kenard Maguire to leverage for a trade, as has already been discussed ad nauseum…..
