Bringing Bronco love from 1,112 miles away

I love Rod Smith.
If Peter King thinks KC is going to be 8-8, he is smoking the super crack. KC is coming off a 2-14 season and somehow look even worse. They just fired their offensive coordinator after the third preseason game. Who does that? Not an 8-8 team. KC will be back in that 3-13 range this season.
I don’t see the Jets parting with a great player like David Harris, a player that is only 25 years of age. They don’t have the depth to lose their best LB.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

Agreed, McG, on Peter King. 8-8? Wow. He apparently is still sniffing the glue sticks.
If Marshall is traded, I’ve always been a proponent that they get a high quality player in return plus picks. Is Harris their best front 7 player? Do they have a dominant lineman (I don’t follow the Jets)? If Harris is the best, I wouldn’t do it for less than what’s been speculated. I’d feel better if they got a 2nd rounder instead of a 3rd, though.

King's predictions are baffling
He’s pretty harsh on us, and way WAAAAAY to generous with KC. They are so far from an 8 – 8 team from what I’ve seen.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

The love of a "franchise" QB goes a long way in the MSM...
I’ve read a lot of interesting tid bits out of KC that Cassell is struggling with the offense, and it may have led to Gailey’s ousting. 8-8? That is absolutely obscene. We’re definitely better than them.
P.S. The Bucs fire their O-Coordinator, and the B-Marsh thing is still front page news? Ridiculous.

I don’t think you can call it a bust when you are placed on IR.
Cassel won’t survive the season behind that line.

It's a Pioli thing.
If Scott Pioli managed the same Broncos offseason that McX did— Cutler saga and all— the MSM (PK included) would be orgasmic about his subtle genius. Its a reflection of the love hate relationship with Belichick. Somebody has to be omniscient (Pioli) and somebody has to be an idiot (McD)— and, of course, along the way, all logic and reason takes a back seat.
Its been a bad start to the day, so I needed this sort of Chiefs-going-8-and-8-comic-relief. Thanks for passing it on NYC…

Even in retirement
Rod Smith is still one of the best players on our team. Forever a team leader, captain, defender, godfather, a man who understands the importance of a little wisdom applied at the right time. If anyone can get B Marsh’s head back on straight, it’s #80. The career may not be Canton-worthy, but outside of Shanahan has anyone had a bigger impact on the team in the last decade?
Conversation nonstarters: hoping McDaniels fails, comparing Bears to Broncos, Cutler to Orton, apples to oranges, and casual drinkers to Raiders fans.

Rod Smith is definitely HOF material. I can’t believe people can mention Marshall and HOF in the same breath at this point. Rod Smith on the other hand, has a stong case:
- First and only undrafted player to reach the milestone of 10,000 receiving yards, and the 24th in history to eclipse that figure.
- Has the most catches (849), receiving yards (11,389) and touchdown receptions (68) of any undrafted wide receiver in NFL history.
- Holds Denver Broncos franchise records in career receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches.
- Ranks first on Denver’s all-time yards from scrimmage list.
- Only the sixth player in NFL history to have 100 receptions against at least three teams (Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders).

The Denver Broncos would want New York Jets linebacker David Harris in any trade scenario for wide receiver Brandon Marshall, two NFL sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
Shefter also has reported that Denver is looking into a league violation of tampering by the Jets. So which one is it Adam? To me it seems like there is alot of speculation and misinformation floating around right now. Who are these sources anyway, Jamie Dukes and Porkchop.

I’m wondering what Peter King is doing cause he certainly isn’t thinking straight. KC 8-8, come on, they have way to many issues on D and as much as I like Bowe at WR he’s very inconsistent. I also think they are better of with Thigpin than Cassell.

AJ Feeley?
The Eagles are reportedly dangling him with Vick’s suspension likely to be cut in half, and they supposedly still want a Tight End. Surprising given Celek’s upside. Whatever the case, there was interest at one point in Scheffler, so you have to assume that remains.
Problem is, Scheffler is >>> Feeley so it makes no sense. I bet they just cut Feeley outright. I’d have a hard time even accepting Kolb for Scheffler, but Iggles pundits can dream if they want.
Cynics point to the fact that the TE is rarely utilized in a New England-style offense, but Scheffler plays more like a Wide Receiver anyway. Part of my lack of concern in how the Marshall situation pans out is the fact that Scheffer could step in and be the de facto WR1.
by ELGee on Sep 3, 2009 9:30 AM MDT reply actions 0 recs
Feeley would be a decent backup
IF the Broncos were worried about Simms or Orton long term. Either way though, there’s no way he’s worth Scheffler. None.
Especially if they may eventually cut him anyway, yeah, as you said. Most teams will wait that out…

Paige calling Denver a 4-12 team.. Yikes. I know that would make me shaking mad. We have far more talent than a 4-12 team.
I think we’ll go 4-2 in the AFC West. Wins vs Cleveland, Dallas, Cincy and Washington would round out to 8-8.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.
by McGeorge on Sep 3, 2009 9:36 AM MDT reply actions 1 recs
That sounds about right
8-8 for Denver seems a fair assumption. 8-8 for Chiefs (as per Peter King) seems pushing it, but we’ll see.
The commenter formerly known as "Dashiell".
by underdog on Sep 3, 2009 9:40 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Talent is irrelevant when there are wholesale changes in philosophy. Logic says it will take AT LEAST one year to get the hang of new systems on both sides of the ball. It’s up to the coaches to expedite the success, but expectations should be minimal and anybody ‘shakingly mad’ over anything that happens this year wasn’t a real fan anyway.
Also, Woody Paige.. seriously? Surely you’ve been on the planet long enough to know what a dolt he is. He’s unreadable.
The fact that Vegas won’t drop the over/under on Broncos wins below 6 curbs my worry. Vegas isn’t fond of losing money, and they want people to take the under.
by ELGee on Sep 3, 2009 9:40 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
thats the best point I've heard all year
I was thinking the exact same way. Vegas is usually pretty dead on. Like you said they’re not in the business of losing money. A smart gambler will figure out what Vegas wants you to bet and will bet the opposite.
by T.Dot_Bronco on Sep 3, 2009 4:06 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
regarding vegas
theya ctually don’t care whether anyone takes the over or under, they are just trying to estimate bettor opinion. they want as many people betting the overs as they have betting the unders. It is a complex system who’s goal is to make the winners (yes, the winners) pay off the losers.
That is the only way to guarantee that people keep betting….

Wow. Let the record show that McGeorge is more optimistic than I am.
I didn’t like what I saw from the Offense in the Chicago game, but man, oh man, did the media overreact. I wouldn’t put it past them to argue that first-down holding penalties were somehow part of McDaniels’ game plan.
by Chibronx on Sep 3, 2009 9:40 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s preaseason for the refs, too. They call penalties just to work in the whistles in preseason.
I’m convinced McDaniel’s is refraining from showing his hand offensively. It will be a watered down playbook until week 4, in fact. Shanahan always exposed all his imaginative plays way too early in the season and defenses were ready. Mac is much more tactical. I hope.
by ELGee on Sep 3, 2009 9:43 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly
I’ve been saying that here too. People have overlooked how vanilla a lot of the playcalling has been, save for a few plays here and there. They’ve both wanted new players to get comfortable but also not wanting to tip their hand (which is true for most teams). Not sure he’ll wait til week 4 mind you but I definitely expect him to hold the special stuff til the season gets rolling.

I’m interested in your take since you are predicting an 8-8 record, would that qualify as an acceptable season, good season or disappointing season. I’m inclined to say that it’s an acceptable record given the circumstances and hopefully we look good enough to get a sense of whether or not we’re on the right track.

Fox vs Barrett
Who do people think will survive the final cut? I’m leaning Barrett, younger with more upside. But we’ll see.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Lamar Jordan cut, too, if Knowshon is indeed now healthy. And especially IF D Walker looks good tonight…

there’s a rule on the number of coaches a team may carry. I haven’t read anything like that anyway. If there is, then he could be retained using another adjective like consultant, tutor, assistant to the assistant, etc.

Isn't that what they did in Indy?
That way the coaches got pensions, but still operate in the same capacity?
by legendarywalton on Sep 3, 2009 11:21 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think that was CBA related
That was the owners decision to do that.
according to this.
The NFL announced a change to the pension plans that appeared to limit how much money coaches over 65 were able to draw if they kept coaching past that age.
The league doesn’t have to go back and change the provisions for coaches over 65, but it has to fully explain the plan and/or close the loophole, so that teams can’t eat their cake and have it too when it comes to their coaching staffs.
Dallas, New England, Atlanta, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Buffalo, Arizona, and S.F. opted to replace the standard NFL pension plan with a different plan of their choosing. All this does is give them the option of choosing a retirement plan that is more cost effective. Also, it’s not like the coaches will lose any of their accrued benefits. They still get to keep all of it.
Franchises that opt out from the league run pension plan will either be perceived to be offering a superior or inferior benefit when compared to the league run plan.
Some of the owners opting out are probably driven by gaining an advantage in terms of coaching prospects…other owners probably are betting they can get the same out of any assistant coach while saving a buck.
AND:the league has threatened to fire any coach who joined a union.

You see the same thing I am.
I said it in another post that if a suspension doesn’t wake up Marshall then nothing will. I am still dumbfounded that he doesn’t realize that by playing well, he will eventually get what he wants. This is why Rod Smith is a class act.

Da plane, da plane
in case you missed this, from Newark paper via RotoWorld:
A plane bearing a New York Giants logo was spotted in Denver overnight, but the Newark Star-Ledger reports it was a “coincidental” trip and had nothing to do with a potential Brandon Marshall trade.
The Giants don’t even own a private plane, and are having enough trouble choosing which of their eight wide receivers to keep. Rookie Hakeem Nicks is also coming on. Marshall would be a much better fit on the crosstown team.

Thanks as always nyc
Good ol’ contrasting/contradictory reporting.
I sure hope Marshall is wise enough to see the benefits that existential olive branch to Rod offers.
First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and we oughtta let someone else have a fair shot : )
