Heck... 16-0 Could Happen...

In 2007, something Historic happened.  The New England Patriots went 16-0 in the regular season in an amazing run that set many records.  Tom Brady and the New England offense set all kinds of records on Offense and the Defense was very good.  Put those two things together, and you have a pretty Dominant team that could win every regular season game.

The 2007 Pats were Amazing on Offense.  Ranked #1 in the NFL in almost every category.  But what has been overlooked by the vast majority of people, is that they also had the #4 ranked Defense in Yard/game and Points Allowed.  This team not only moved the ball and scored at will.... they also kept the other teams from being able to score.

Star-divide

I see a ton of similarity between these two teams... and so it has me dreaming for 16-0.  Probably not going to happen... but hey... that's why we call it dreaming!

1.  Both have a ton of Offensive Weapons - the 2007 Pats had tons of weapons in the passing game... and some decent but not very dominant backs in the backfield.  They protected TB relatively well, who ran the offense with skillful precision.  The 2009 Broncos have... dare I say even more offensive weapons at their disposal.  They have 4 very good receivers... three very versatile and dominant backs... and an amazing O-line.  I would say that the 2009 Broncos could be better in almost every position except at QB and 1 WR position... and even then, I think Kyle Orton has a ton of potential as he grows more and more accustom to the offense  (He's no Tom Brady yet... but he might become very... very good).

2.  Both have a Very Good Defense - the 2007 Pats defense was often over shaddowed by their explosive offense... but The Defense was really the reason that they were able to win all 16 games that year.  They were able to quickly get the ball back into the hands of the offense, with good field position, and thus why the scoring was so high.  They had some quality veteran leadership and they knew how to play together.  The 2009 Broncos so far have the #1 rated Defense in the entire NFL... allowing 16 points in the first 3 games, which is the best in Broncos history and 3rd best in NFL history.  The next closest is 33 I believe.  So far, these guys are playing well together, have quality veteran leadership in almost every area, and if you matched them up position for position... you might even consider Denver to have more overall talent than the 2007 Pats... especially in the Secondary.

3.  Both Won Close Games - I believe that the 2007 Pats won two very close games during that run... one against Baltimore (I think it was the Ravens... but to lazy to go look for sure).  We all know about the "Immaculate Deflection" that kept us from experiencing our first loss.  Obviously... if you are going to win every game in a regular season, you are going to have fate on your side and ... well, can you deny that Denver already has so fate rolling for them?

So if Denver consistently keeps their Turnovers down... and continues to force turnovers (remember all of our outcry after the first 3 pre-season games... )... continues to control the ball and win the TOP battle... and continue to improve offensively which means better 3rd down efficiency... we won't loose many games... if any.

Well... again... I am not expecting 16-0... but hey... the Kool-aid is as good as it's ever been... so why not cheer them on.  We have got a good team, and it will be fun to see them continue to grow and develop into an even better team in the weeks and months to come.

It is

a little early to start chanting un-defeated, I would like to see us get out of the Dallas and NE games first. Two wins there would give me enough incentive to agree though.

16-0???

Um, dude? I really appreciate your enthusiasm, but I think I hear Betty Ford calling you to put down the Kool-Aid. You may have what they refer to as a drinking problem.

All you get from drafting the "best player available" is a team full of good football players.

Cotton McKnight: I'm being told that Average Joe's does not have enough players and will be forfeiting the championship match.
Pepper Brooks: It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em.

Do you think that the 2007 Pats thought 16-0 was attainable?

probably not. But when they were 3-0… they were on their way. Only 6-7 teams still have the possibility… and so until we aren’t… that’s my dream…

again… not thinking it will happen… just thinking it would be an awesome way to stick it to Dukes and Clayton!

Yes!

Pleeeeeze don’t ever talk about 16-0. Because that’s not the goal. If you are going to root for undefeated, be sure to include the playoffs and superbowl.

My goal is to get to the playoffs

Undefeated means nothing but bragging rights…and I don’t want bragging rights. I want a competitive team that wins.

Even then…it is a bit early to be thinking about undefeated seasons.

maybe after this crazy off-season...

looking for something to brag about… and set the MSM on their backsides (the part that they think with).

I also would trade 16-0 for 10-6… with a championship. No question there.

My post was more about comparing one historically good team with our current one… and honestly, I don’t think we are too far off.

HRU we should just call you

the “Dream Weaver” I know it has me doing some “Calfornia Dreaming”. But, seriously as much as I’d love it to happen I just don’t think it would be this year. Next year abosolutely, at least that’s my dream. :o)

Call me what you will... Dream Weaver fits just fine...

Until we lose a game, we are history in the making!

Is it too early to dream about back to back undefeated seasons?

I predicted once we won dallas we'd here a 16-0 posts

your ahead of the curve.

I goota agree with your points. even if we don’t quite get 16-0,
16-3 is pretty good too.

Please don't jinx us...

I really have a strongly superstitious streak in me.

Otherwise, I concur with the strengths you are seeing. But going 16 and 0 takes a really good team AND some luck.

The luck seems to be on our side this year...

Make that 18-0 and I don't believe in Jinx's!

Might be a stretch

The Broncos are a tipped pass away from being 2-1 with that loss coming against the bengals. I know the bengals are looking better but give me a break they are still not a top tier team like the Giants or Ravens. Lets wait a few more weeks and see where this club is at.

Thatz why I say that the number of four leaf clovers growing in the HC's yard...will make it happen!
