Tom Brandstater
Alright everyone, I think you all think that I'm about to praise his play in tonight's game, but I'm not.
He did play good, had some nice throws downfield that we have yet to see from Orton. He ran the team well and lead us to our first victory of the 2009-10 season! Woo Hoo!
Ha well enough with that, the thing I liked most was after he threw his INT, he went and made the tackle! How many QB's in the NFL will do that? And it wasn't just a shoe string tackle, he wrapped up and knocked the snot out of the guy.
Heck, if he doesn't turn into the next Tom Brady or Matt Cassel in a couple years, hopefully he can turn into a John Lynch lol.

It terms of accuracy, that statement is right up there with,
The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here.
But I guess that’s pretty good company to be in.
It’s a good observation that the way people deal with adversity can be more revealing than their successes. Did you notice how after the interception, he sat alone at the end of the bench with his head in his hands?
Me neither.

Nice burn!
If only more people realized how lame it was to have a guy that would do that on Our team, the support for the organization wouldn’t have fluctuated as much as it seemed/seems to. I can only imagine what that makes/made teammates feel like, when a QB gets all pouty and won’t even associate with the rest of the team because they were made a mistake. Way to lead by example.
Did I mention, nice burn!
First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and we oughtta let someone else have a fair shot : )

He did look good...
… still a rookie though, but if Orton struggles and Simms isn’t ready.. I hope McD doesn’t hesitate to give him a shot. Who knows what might happen and this season is going to be a learning curve for a lot of those player, major transition period.

Brandy played a little bit of safety in high school, just like our old friend Mr. Cutler

He was all league at Safety, and almost all-state! I should know, I go to his church and live in his hometown.

Nice, poundtherock!
What do you know about the man? Would you consider doing a short post?

Sure
But I know of his family, I don’t know him very personally, but he’s a great guy from when I’ve talked to him. REALLY down to earth. His brother was an awesome pitcher for Turlock High too. His father is a little strange, but he’s a good guy, I see him at the gym a lot. I don’t really know where his kids get their height, because he’s like 5’ 11" or 6’, but he’s a passionate guy, which Tom most definitely is.
I remember talking to his father after Tom struggled a little in a Fresno state game. I said “Tom didn’t have the greatest game out there, but he looked REALLY fired up! I think he’s going to do well against (I think it was Boise St. or Nevada)”
His reply was “Damn right he should be fired up! He’s doing terrible out there!”
… I’m sure he’s kept humble because of that… haha.
He loves his hometown of Turlock, and when he came back to Turlock over the break he came to a Turlock High scrimmage and talked to the kids telling them how important getting good grades are. So he is still very connected with Turlock and is really looked up to by the high school kids, he even emails them messages every once in a while I hear. In terms of how the community looks at him, people really couldn’t be happier about him! In Turlock at least, he’s the biggest news in our sports section every week.
Just a little info from cow-town Turlock!

I also liked how pissed off he was
when that CB knocked that TD pass away from McKinley. He wanted that one, and it was a perfect pass.

He was mad
TB was mad at himself. He should have aired it out more because McKinley had to slow down. If not, McKinley would have had an easy score. TB was pointing at himself and taking the blame.
It is a great relief to me to see TB play so well. He gives the team a solid backup in the event Orton and Simms both go down during the regular season.

That is the thing I noticed all game,
he was making all the passes, but a few of the plays could have gone better if he would have led the receivers. I don’t have tivo, so I couldn’t watch replays, but I kept seeing players stopping to wait for the pass.
I’m no expert, but that was my beef with his play. Although, I would imagine that this would be a fairly easily corrected error.
I don’t mean to trash him either, he had great poise in the pocket, seemed to run the huddle well, showed good arm strength, and made a good tackle.
Maybe Styg could do an analysis of his play?

My favorite TB moment, his high five with Walker for the latter shifting over in the pocket and picking up the blitzer
Situational awareness during the play then after the play spending just a moment to congratulate the RB for a thankless job well done. I am really excited about this guy.

I noted that play too
And I thought, that is what makes a great QB and a guy people will follow anywhere. I do think this guy has a great future here and I look forward to seeing him develope.
I think McDaniels may have found our future franchise QB and he’s in the best situation with the best coach that he can have to gains success.

Low Expectations
I suppose I’m like most people. Just because a player (such as Stafford, Sanchez or Freeman) are drafted in the 1st round I assume that he MUST be better than a 6th rounder. It is obviously not always the case.

What I saw out of TB that I have not seen from the other QB’s is his leadership qualities. He took mistakes on himself, even if they weren’t necessarily his fault. He handled his interceptions really well…that tackle says enough. Congratulating Walker on his blitz pickup stood out to me as well. He has that quality that makes you want him on your team…the quality he shares with Eddie Royal and Peyton Hillis. Maybe next year he will step in as the starter, and bring fire to the position.

orton looks like a deer in headlights and frankensimms doesn’t have the fire!

in all seriousness though, the interception was a rookie mistake, but all of his other throws were in good position, where the defender couldn’t really make a play on the ball. tom b starts by the end of the season, mark my words (he’ll likely start the opener too, due to injuries)

"Mark My Words"
With as many negative posts have occurred this off-season, it makes my skin crawl everytime I see anyone use that phrase. No offense lolcopter because I like your posts. It’s just the phrase that bugs me.
