Small notes on Tom
Tom Brandstater the player is someone we all know about, and we have all been impressed with, but I'm here to tell you more about Tom the person. I don't consider myself the source of all Tom Brandstater knowledge or lore, but I do know Tom and his family a bit (partly because I must admit, Turlocks small size), and in the few days that I see him home in Turlock I've seen him at church and a few events.
Tom the person is a great guy. Smart as heck, tall as heck and very humble. He loves Turlock and has come to many Turlock High scrimmages (yes, scrimmages, not even games) to talk to the high school kids and stress the importance of school, and to work hard in football, he's a big inspiration to the kids. Tom also e-mails the school, talking to the kids, about this same subject.
One of these scrimmages I attended as a coach for a small football team in Turlock. His arrival unexpected, there were only a few people in the stands. But he came with his father and just stayed on the sidelines and awed all the kids, there were murmors of "Is that Tom?" amongst the kids. Certainly his presence upped the play of the kids, as the small team that I had played amazingly with the presence of an NFL caliber player.
As you would imagine, Mr. Brandstater is a hot sports subject, at least in the Turlock Journal (which is a very very small paper, where nothing happens, being that Turlock is a cow-town). His every game is reported on, even his first game which was much awaited for by his friends and family (he had lots of people at the game). Poor guy didn't even play, but I'm sure he was more sad that people came all the way into SF for nothing than his playing time.
His father is a character. I'm not really sure where Tom gets his height... since his father is normal height. But he has made some great athletes. Toms brother (I wont name him) was a great pitcher for Turlock High, and I'm not sure about Brandstater Senior, but he is a very passionate person and I see him working out at my gym quite a bit.
Just a few notes! Brandstater is a great guy and I'm glad he's has some great coaches behind him. Because at Fresno State he had some adversity, and he seemed to have a problem with having balls batted down, but now he's getting much better with this!
Hope you enjoyed this!

rec’d… I love feel goods =)
A truth can only be expressed and enveloped in words if it is one-sided. Everything that is thought and expressed in words is one-sided, only half the truth; it all lacks totality, completeness, unity.

I did not know Tom was from Turlock!
I lived in Oakdale for about 9 months between 07-08!

I've heard of Turlock, don't know where it is though..
Much like people have heard of Cottonwood, CA but few know where it is. That’s my hometown baby. Oh wait, I am not an NFL Star. Nevermind.
I really want Tom Brandstater to play some this season. What I’ve seen in the preseason just isn’t enough for me. I want to see him in the regular season against real competition. It feels like everyone is writing him off as “not ready”, but he seemed pretty ready against the Bears 1st team and the Cardinals 1st team.

Truth. It kills me when we can watch the man go out there and shred the Bears and Cardinals (albeit with limited red-zone success) and then everyone declares he’s not ready because he’s a rook. Did you people see his performance? Poise? Accuracy? Arm? Mobility? Huddle and line control? Nothing? Rookie is just a title, his play speaks for itself…
That said, I still think Orton is the man for the moment if healthy, but I will be fine and have high hopes if TB needs to step in.
Oh, and thanks for stopping by Pound!
Hey man he has the skills,
But, I’d rather he get to see the game in season from the sidelines at least for now. His time is coming let’s just be patient…… :o)
You must not be American...
it’s all about instant gratification baby!

Born and raised in Colorado 100% American
But, I’m old school. Live in Folsom, CA these days, well at least for now. Didn’t you say you are in the Sacramento area Zappa?
Yeah, in Carmichael... I work in Placerville now too. Pass Folsom every day! lol

Have an athlete that lives in Placerville!!!
Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

Wonderful, and much appreciated
Could you give us a small taste of how his dad is a ‘character’. Coming from a family filled with them myself, I’d love to know what kind he might be!

In a word... Passionate.
He’s kind of crazy in my eyes, but do you know what I mean when I say he’s full of life every second of every day? Wide eyed, sun dried, and rearing to go. I’m sorry I can’t do better, he’s a hard guy to just say “he’s this way”. Plus, I don’t really want to intrude too far on his family life, just know that he has a very nice family, all very athletic, and all God-fearing (last time I checked).

Very nice to know
Thanks – I really appreciate a chance to get to know him and his family better. I put an article on him on the front page – hope you enjoy it.

Haven't got to meet him,
but heard some great stories from my Physical Therapist who went o school with him.
Good post, Pound!
Great information on TB. I’m not a bit surprised at all.. just watching him in the games and on the sideline, you could sense that he is a quality person. I’m most impressed with his unflappable demeanor and self confidence. This guy will be a starter.. perhaps next season. Rec’d and thanks.
" Life is what happens while you're making other plans "
His time will come soon enough
and when it does, we will all be better for it. In the meantime, Orton and Simms have a wealth of experience that he can draw from and I do believe he has one of the best QB coaches in the NFL.

Definitely appreciated
And rec’d of course.
I won’t be surprised if he ends up starting against Cincy. It’d be crazy, but if Orton’s ready and Dawkins’ cast is off by that game, I’m going to wonder what kind of bone e-poxy We got goin’ on… I know a dislocated knuckle wouldn’t necessarily dictate bone e-poxy… But now I’m just ranting, sorry.
Thanks again Poundtherock, and btw IMO, they were very respectful and discreet accounts you have given.
First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and we oughtta let someone else have a fair shot : )

thanks for the perspective
It’s really great to hear anecdotes that we might otherwise not get to hear.

Thank you for sharing. The personal side of a player really rounds out my views. Thanks again.
Speaking of his visits to Turlock High
He came into my Anatomy class while he was still at fresno, my whole class was just starring at him in awe

TB v.2 has NFL passing skills and poise
We need to give him time to work with the coaches and hope that he gets some snaps as the season goes on. As long as he doesn’t get too much too fast.
I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.
