Yeah I heard that

Kind of disappointed I felt he had a lot of talent and McDaniels spoke highly of him

I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. Coach Norman Dale "Hoosiers"

I think lack of endurance killed him.

He got the chance to show that he could handle a feature role in need be and clearly wore down to almost useless as the game went on.

credit to neither Walker nor Jordan

I’m not fond of either of the bottom two, although I’d assumed Jordan would show his past form at some point == he hasn’t yet;

I’d pretty much come to the conclusion that could find a back on the waiver wire to fill the 5th slot or avoid the problem altogether and go with 4, which would allow us to carry a 7th WR.

I like this Colinski

When I was doing out my 53 man roster I felt like I was shooting myself in the foot to take Jackson off the roster. I don’t think it’s possible to choose between him and Lloyd. There are equal pro’s and con’s to both, and it’s going to come down to a matter of preference, not play if they have to choose.

bubble logic

I could see us going with 7 WRs but it’s probably down to keeping 2 of the last 3 — McKinley, Lloyd & Jackson — at this point. Jackson’s stock rose recently and then dropped somewhat — IMO. McDaniels is going to scrutinize WRs closely and sloppiness is going to buy a ticket out. I like all the Jackson represents but I wonder what went wrong in the trip from a 2nd rounder to cut in N.E.

He good enough to keep but numbers hurt him. We can function with 6 WRs but maybe not at other positions. I’d say you better do all the little things if you’re a bubble player looking to be kept. All said; I’ve never resolved the numbers at ballhandler. Do you keep 5 RB and 6 WRs? I’ve never figured it out, and this roster may only be a temporary answer.

I agree

He was gasping for air before the first half ended and asked to be taken out twice and the sideline said no.

by tedwin on Sep 5, 2009 1:37 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

This undersells the fact that he’s completely versed in the offense. Backwards and forwards. He’ll be Moreno’s Miyagi.

by ELGee on Sep 5, 2009 12:54 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I felt the same Zappa

I figured they would try to squeeze Walker onto the practice squad (though I don’t know the eligibility rules) and keep Jordan. They both have a knack of getting a couple more yards than they should have on the play. And despite the criticism Jordan gets here at MHR I think he’s performing as expected.

by Greyson on Sep 5, 2009 10:43 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Why. Walker is a scrub that we don’t want to take NFL carries away from real NFL RBs. We can do better. Me thinks Jordan won’t last much longer either.

He looked good against Chicago and Arizona.

He’s not a starting caliber back, but he’s good for depth. Remember last season’s fiasco at RB? I would have rather had a guy like Darius Walker than Tatum Bell.

by Greyson on Sep 5, 2009 10:48 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

He looked alright against Chicago and Arizona’s backups. Not good, just decent.

On the waiver wire, we can do so much better than Walker, trust me. Walker would have been a poorly used roster spot.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

by McGeorge on Sep 5, 2009 10:50 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree there will be better out on the wire.

And Tatum did his job last year. Was he amazing? No… but he came in and showed a lot of heart. And if we get in the situation again maybe we can call on Darius like we did Tatum last year.

My image is the Circa 1960-’61 Broncos home uniform sock. Some what folk lore to me ... but referred to as the clown sock by my Dad.

Tatum was a far better RB

He’d still be here if he wasn’t such a flake

by Whidbey Bronco on Sep 5, 2009 12:27 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Walker looked good but gassed at times

He looked a hell of a lot better then Jordan did. Jordan is not a real NFL RB either. Walker weighs like 20 pounds less then jordan and still runs with more power. Jordan goes down after the first hit almost every time, he is a joke. He should not make this roster he is a waste of space

by gnarlybroncodude on Sep 5, 2009 11:11 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

We agree on Jordan, I was against ever signing him in the first place. Gregg Lumpkin was cut by Green Bay and there will be other RBs that have far more upside than fatso Jordan or a scrub like Walker.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

Walker has at least

shown he can play. If someone else doesn’t take him he will make a good guy to look for whenever a RB is injured.

Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

The practice squad should include: Tony Carter, Lee Robinson, Swift and Pedescleaux (Askew if he is eligible). The other four spots should go to players we like from other rosters.

I don’t see an NFL future for Powell.

i think he has a future on this team, i hope he is on the PS.

i heard josh bell was cut as well, maybe Tony Carter will make the team or we will keep 4 corners.

Well we will keep

Champ, Goodman, Smith and Jack Williams. If we keep 5 DB carter could make the team however i think Mcbath could play some corner in a pinch

by gnarlybroncodude on Sep 5, 2009 11:13 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

depth chart says

DJ Johnson is higher up the depth chart. I think they lean towards a 5th CB if the players provide them with a sound reason for being kept. Carter is a little small (read light) so I wonder if they’ll go another route, as in keeping DJ as a CB/S hybrid or Barrett as LB/S hybrid & ST ace (sorta of).

The point is to look for a positive reason to keep the final cuts — rather than saying we need 5. Last cuts should provide something, such as filling a unique niche or contributing heavily on STs. Carter could contribute as a returner but we haven’t seen him used there.

My PS positions:

My PS is based on developing players at positions of need where we have serviceable but aging starters and depth:
DL-2
LB-1
DB-1
OL-2
WR-1
QB-1

Assumptions: TB Jr. and McKinley make the roster, too risky to try to get them to clear waivers. I want a 4th QB because I really don’t know if KO or Simms are the long term solutions.

I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

Smith can't go on the PUP

You have to be placed on the PUP prior to training camp.

What sense does that make?

by ELGee on Sep 5, 2009 12:38 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is the NFL

Doesn’t have to make sense. But that’s why we had to carry Ryan Torain on the 53 man roster last year until he was ready about week 9. He participated in TC and so was ineligible for the PUP.

A man does what he has to do, and sometimes it’s not what I believe he should do. There’s no reason to use up energy hating him for it. Shoot him if you have to, but don’t hate him.

How do you explain Marcus Trufant going on the PUP today? And Rod Smith certainly didn’t go on PUP ‘before training camp’ when that happened. Am I missing something?

by ELGee on Sep 5, 2009 6:02 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have no idea who Marcus Trufant is

So I can’t comment on that. Rod Smith did go on the PUP prior to training camp. He had had surgery in the off season.

However he showed he has the talent

He just needs good coaching and they need to make him get in the weight room. He has a great first step which he displayed on Thursday night. It does not help that he is on his 3rd DC in 3 years. He finally has a good coaching staff that can help him fulfill his potential

he flashed

In the Chicago game and again during Arizona. It may not provide enough since consistency counts more but a situational R-OLB does need to rush — and he showed flashes of brilliance.

We might take McDaniels at his word and his words were very positive after Moss returned from his hiatus.

Moss looked good against Ariz.

I think he can do much better in a 5-2, since he starts further out. Just my opinion.

So if we cut a player

he has to go on waivers before he can be assaigned to the PS. any team can claim a player on waivers? And if a team claims a player on waivers that team must place him on their 53 right?

I am pretty sure after waivers it is a player’s choice — they could accept whatever they want. They could go PS on some other team, or 53 man.

If you have someone on your PS, any team can take them but they go on their 53 man.

A truth can only be expressed and enveloped in words if it is one-sided. Everything that is thought and expressed in words is one-sided, only half the truth; it all lacks totality, completeness, unity.

Yes

Any team can claim a player on waivers but if more than one team claims a player then the one with the worst record gets him. I think that the waivers players have to go straight to the 53, but if he clears waivers he can join any club AND go to their PS.

I just read that PITT has made their 53 man roster

but hasn’t announced any of the cuts. Supposedly to protect one of their RBs so they can move him to the PS.

Anybody here heard of Isaac Redman?

is nobody else worried about what Moss brings to the team?

He is behind Doom, Haggan and Ayers at OLB and he is poor on ST. Luckily for him, neither can Crowder.

my thinking

Is that R-OLB is the position you go 3 deep. The rush backer position needs situational pass rushing ability and that’s Moss — like him or not. But we’re not done yet, of course.

I think he does better in a 5-2 than the 4-3.

That extra space makes his speed more dangerous. He has flashed lately, and (given that he’s been injured and had 3 different DCs in the last 3 years), the staff may see something in him.

He has been our best Dline players since he

was drafted, well except for DOOM. He has shown his talent but he is not a bust like you are saying. Also where do you get his work ethic is not there. He has never done anything to question his work ethic. He was in Denver a lot during the offseason so he obviously has good work ethic and wants to improve. He got screwed because they were trying him at NT which is wasting his skills. He has the quickness and strength to dominate at DE in a 3-4

by gnarlybroncodude on Sep 5, 2009 12:52 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yet the Broncos went out and got Vonnie Holliday when LKS went down.

by ELGee on Sep 5, 2009 12:53 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

you are so wrong on this

you calling him a bust is a the farthest thing from the truth. You also have no proof to question his work ethic. You are also not taking into consideration that he has only been listed at DE for a couple weeks so he has not had a lot of time to learn that position because it is a lot different from NT. He is easily more talented then McBean and Peterson. He will be starting at some point during the regular season.

We will have to agree to disagree

by gnarlybroncodude on Sep 5, 2009 12:59 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

He’s not a bust at all. Given his draft position, I didn’t expect much. It’s not possible for him to bust. But he’s not better than Peterson, and you ignored the Holliday signing. If he sticks around for depth, fine, but he’s overmatched.

Also, it’s not a huge leap from 4-3 DT to 3-4 DE. The learning curve should have ebbed by now, not that the injury helped.

He has not given a chance to progress at DE

because they used him at NT for most of camp. He also put on extra weight to play NT which probably messed with him a bit. He needs to drop a few pounds and get back down to like 305-310. He will be ok but you are not giving him enough credit.

Hamilton . . .

. . has a bad back, is 280 compared to Olsen at 308 and may be a surprise cut .

by el_DON_de_TAOS on Sep 5, 2009 12:35 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

He’ll ‘back up’ Wiegmann which is a courteous way of letting him know he’s done playing but they’ll save him some dignity and keep him around. Olsen should start at LG, though Hochstein might have something to say about that.

by ELGee on Sep 5, 2009 12:36 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

if Kory wasn't cut ...

then there might of been a very slim chance of that happening. However, our interior OL has been revealed already, and Hamilton is one of them.

WR – Royal, Marshall, Gaffney, Stokley, McKinley, B-Lloyd
OL – Hamilton, Wiegmann, Olsen, Kuper, Hochstein, Harris, Clady, Polumbus, Gorin.

Gorin ahead of Jackson? For a Coach that preaches versatility, isn’t 9 people on the OL too many? We will only carry 7 on gameday like almost every other NFL team.

We had the starting 5 plus Pears, Polumbus, Lichtensteiger + we carried Nalen for a while.

Jordan

Actually was one of the only stable backs that the Raiders had when he was on their team, he runs low and is a great runningback actually, just I liked Walker, not sure why. I suppose Kool-aid, but I had a good feeling about him.

by Poundtherock on Sep 5, 2009 12:43 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I wrote on him, and I'm embarrassed by that now

He’s shown production in the past. He’s big and can block. He’s a good receiver (not insignificant on a Mc team). And he’s the 5th back left at a position that has to have some depth.

I’m not saying I like him lately, just that he fulfills a purpose on our team. I’m with the “let’s peruse the waiver wire for RBs” crowd. RB can be learned quickly so being new isn’t a fatal flaw.

Okay fair enough.

Nevertheless, we’ve already had 3 injuries to RBs this preseason.

And back to the original point, all three RBs that will presumably play ahead of Jordan have been injured in the past year. Jordan will most likely see some playing time. I’m really not that anti-Jordan. I’d just like to see a back his size crushing people instead of hesitating and the line. Maybe that’s just a preseason thing and it’ll change.

Unrelatedly, is anyone elses comment box getting cut off on the right side?

Talked a big game, but didn’t have a good preseason. He was a big get though.. I wonder how much of his contract was guaranteed?

Wait, didn’t Reid have that matrix-esque pick last game? He merits being kept on that play alone :P

by ELGee on Sep 5, 2009 1:25 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought Reid had a great preseason, quietly.

He had that great pick the other day, and throughout the preseason he got decent pressure in the backfield when he had a chance. He also shoved Cutler to the ground forcefully and made him slide a couple yards, so I say he makes the squad just off that.

Yeah…my North most hated list goes (from most hated to least hated):

1. Nebraska
2. Missouri
3. Kansas
4. Kansas St.
5. Iowa St.

As long as Nebraska doesn’t win the North I’m happy. Unfortunately all the ‘experts’ are picking Nebraska to win. Smart people know it’ll be CU though. ;-)

I don’t like that. Moss offers nothing on ST, and your #4 OLB has to be able to play ST. That has to be a bitter pill for Reid to swallow.

Rotoworld says SD has to choose between Michael Bennett and Gartrell Johnson. So more quality depth at RB is on its way to waivers…..

Gives us much needed depth and experience on the D-line and it’s possible he might win the starting job by the end of the season.

Expect two or three more wire pickups

It looks like we will keep 7 WR

The seven receivers are: Marshall (pending his return from suspension on Sunday), Gaffney, Eddie Royal, Brandon Stokley, Chad Jackson, Brandon Lloyd and Kenny McKinley.

seems excessive, I would cut Jackson or Lloyd, probably jackson

Might happen..

..When we know for sure that Brandon is going to play for us this year, or when Gaffney returns from injury.

Anybody know how long the waiver period is?

When can we start signing players to the PS?

48 hours, I think

It may be 24, though.

What about the guys we cut the first go...

Are those guys now clear?

Early in the week?

I believe they are through waivers, but teams can’t actually begin filling out the PS until Monday, if I’m not mistaken.

How many left to be cut?

As far as I can tell, these guys haven’t been cut yet (I’m looking at the 9/1 printable roster). If they are cut (pending PUP moves and BMarsh), here’s a list, in order, of who I think is most likely to go (fwiw):

  1. Vernon Fox
  2. Antwain Spann
  3. DJ Johnson
  4. Braxton Kelley
  5. Marquez Branson
  6. Josh Barrett
  7. Marcus Thomas
  8. Brandon Gorin

the order doesn't mean much

As I review it, I already want to modify the order… but I think these are the bubble guys right now.

Gorin may be a bit of a reach since cutting him would leave us with 8 OL, but I just didn’t see anyone else that I thought wouldn’t make the 53 (Moss, maybe?).

Moss is safe

DP reported today that he’s been told he made the team.

I'd put

Chad Jackson above Barret but that just me.

by HorseStance on Sep 5, 2009 3:33 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

could be

It’s between Jackson and McKinley as the bubble WR, but with Gaffney and BMarsh in question, these guys might stay on for at least a few more days.

Now that Holliday is signed

We need to cut five.

Then a 6th on sunday when Marshall comes back.

by HorseStance on Sep 5, 2009 3:29 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

who goes to make room for Holliday?

I think LK Smith shifting to PUP accommodates Holliday, but if someone gets cut to make room I fear it’s Thomas that goes (out of Smith, Baker, and Thomas currently left as 2nd DL).

Thomas

Without a doubt.

I dont think Josh Barrett gets cut...he is a great STer and has multi skilled abilities.

Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

Marshall

doesn’t have to be added to the team till tomorrow so don’t count that cut till then.

jamie [where is my helmet, I was too busy over pursuing] winborn was also cut by the falcons

That nickname doesn't belong to Winborn

You’re thinking of Nate Webster. Winborn’s nickname would be Jamie “I tackled you 15 yards downfield, now I’m gonna celebrate like I actually did something good” Winborn.
