Darius Walker cut...

Darius Walker dumped in Denver

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 5, 2009 12:24 PM ET

PFT head honcho Mike Florio has informed us that running back Darius Walker has been cut by the Broncos.

Some in Denver thought Walker could end up making the team over LaMont Jordan, but that didn't happen.

It's uncertain if Jordan will make the roster behind Knowshon Moreno, Correll Buckhalter, and Peyton Hillis, who can also line up at fullback.

Star-divide

I don't want to jump to conclusions on this, but I hope they plan on getting someone different other than Jordan. Jordan has no business being on this team over Darius Walker. Anyone else surprised by this?

No big deal. Neither Darius Walker or Jordan looks like an NFL caliber player to me. Why waste a roster spot on either.

Hello waiver wire RBs.

Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.

Surprised,,,,,,

Only if Jordan is kept. I did not see anything out of Jordan this preseason and don’t take kindly to any ex-raiders on our roster. I think McDaniels already knows what he’s getting from Jordan since he was on the Pats last year. I think Walker is a serviceable backup, especially 4th string.

by A Mile High on Sep 5, 2009 10:45 AM MDT reply actions

the thing is

Walker accepts 4th string. Jordan does not, at least i wouldnt think so. He better be able to pound it inside.

Is Walker PS eligible?

A man does what he has to do, and sometimes it’s not what I believe he should do. There’s no reason to use up energy hating him for it. Shoot him if you have to, but don’t hate him.

It appears he is

Walker appeared in 5 games for the Texans in 07-08 and none in 08-09 so it looks like he would be eligible for the PS.

active list counts against you — so if you dress, it counts regardless of if you play

A truth can only be expressed and enveloped in words if it is one-sided. Everything that is thought and expressed in words is one-sided, only half the truth; it all lacks totality, completeness, unity.

I don't see Walker getting picked up anywhere...

So if we did get an injury and needed some depth, we could always pick him back up.

He needs to work on his conditioning though… He looked like he was about to pass out in the 2nd quarter on Thursday.

I think he could be dumped as well… but the one thing about Jordan is that he can create some matchup problems because he can play out wide. He has caught a couple passes lined up at WR against a LB. I don’t like him running the ball however… just not very explosive and seems to kind of just lean into the hole.

Excellent point: Walker has no gas tank. He was gasping for air, hands on knees, after only a couple runs.He may have had some issues there that the Broncos were wary of…

If he won't put in the hours to get in condition

how can we count on him in a game situation? He knew he was going to have to show his level of conditioning and didn’t get up to the point he needed to. I’m not thrilled with LaMont Jordan, but I can understand why they didn’t want Walker

How much money did Jordan sign for? Anybody remember?

There’s certainly quite a gap between him and Walker, dollar wise. They’re not really the same style of back, but as BDawk said above me, Jordan better be able to hit it inside or it’s a waste of money.
Maybe I’m not as up to speed here as I should be, but I’m a little surprised that Walker was cut. Even if we kept Jordan, our backs aren’t split by RB/FB, so the number we have doesn’t seem in excess considering last years issues and health issues we’ve already faced this year.

According to

Yahoo , Jordan’s 2009 salary is $2 Mil.

Thanks Kirk!

You’re a gentleman and a scholar. May be just me, but it seems like a pretty big price tag, for a guy who’ll likely play just a bit more than sparingly behind Buck, Moreno, and HIllis (barring injury of course). I mean he’s better and surely more proven than Walker, but more of an injury risk. So for the dollar difference involved.. Guess I’m a little surprised.

Bummer. I really liked what Walker brought in the last game… I would take him over Jordan any day.

by aLuffabo on Sep 5, 2009 11:14 AM MDT reply actions

Walker had every opportunity to...

get 100 yards on Thursday night… He couldn’t do it against 3rd and 4th stringers, he ain’t gonna do it against the first string.

Sad but necessary.

RIP Darius

You helped the team a lot through training camp.

LaMont Jordan trade bait?

Darius Walker was not tradeable, my only thought is that Jordan is.
IMO McD does not keep Jordan just because he and GMX got him as a FA.

I hope Jordan's trade bait.

I really do.

One thing

Darius has preseason film on him. He may be picked up by another team. In fact, IMO he probably will.

While I am not "surprised"

I am with you in being dissappointed, Jordan is a waste of money and roster space, Walker has shown he can be productive in a zone scheme playing in Houston last season, I think Jordan made this team for two simple reasons, he kisses the McDaniels ass and it would look foolish to cut one of “his” guys that they made such a big deal about bringing in.

Besides, I am sure he probably bet 20,000 that he would make the team!

Jordn is a waste of a roster spot.

I like McD well enough, but would respect him more if he cut one of “his guys”. Walker way outplayed Jordan in preseason.
