They have only eight players on their roster who came to them in 2006 or earlier, and one of them, Brandon Marshall, is a malcontent
Can anyone explain what this stat means? Does he mean players who entered the league since 2006 saying we are old? Is he actually knocking our drafting since 2006 saying the previous group did bad and miss broadcasting it on the new coach?
That whole article made me go cross eyed. After all, the only reason the AFC has been so dominant is our QB play? I guess that sums up his depth of knowledge of football.
Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

What I get
Is that Denver used to be “good” and now since they replaced all the bad players with good ones, they will be “bad” and McD might lose his job because of it.

And
he seems to be saying they’ve cut ties with a lot of players from some excellent, competitive teams. Because we know how good the Broncos were, especially on defense, the last few years. ! Maybe I’m mis-reading that though.

Clayton's convoluted reasoning...
…goes like this: McD has created such a turnover in the roster that he can’t possibly have found enough NFL-worthy starters to field a competitive team — mostly because only starters are worthy of being starters.
In the world of Clayton, unless you have started (or been given a “Boomer” nickname) or are a high profile rookie draft pick, you aren’t anyone, and you have no value except as roster filler.
In other words, Clayton judges football teams by how many times the players on each team have been mentioned on ESPN (outside of stories in which they are mentioned as players who are not worth mentioning).
And on that account, the Broncos are a complete mess. Thus, McDaniels is on the “hot seat” without having coached a single NFL regular season game.
That the two issues with players the Broncos have had were with the two players who never attended a single OTA? That’s irrelevant. Clayton is able to extrapolate from this that McDaniels has lost the team.

Perfect and probably pretty darn accurate take on Clayton in general,

Hmm, I only get 7
Champ (‘04), Dumervil (’06), Hamilton(‘01), Kuper (’06), Scheffler (‘06), DJ (’04), and Marshall (‘06). So unless he’s still counting Jay, I don’t know… If he’d wanted to make a point about turnover, he should have said that there are only three Broncos who have played with the team for more than three years, but that wouldn’t have allowed him to bring up Brandon Marshall again.
In any case, the whole premise is stupid. If we are lacking in talent, it’s because of Shanahan’s drafting, not because of what McD did. It would be silly to blame him for failing to win without talent, as he had very little to do with the acquisition of that talent. Wouldn’t it make more sense to give the coach of an expansion team more time rather than less?
Basically, he has no point, he just thinks McD should be on the hot seat because he traded Cutler, even though it was Bowlen who made the final decision on that one.

Appreciated King's blurb on McDaniels
Think Josh McDaniels doesn’t carry Bill Belichick in his hip pocket every day? In the team meeting room of the Denver Broncos are two huge pronouncements on either side of the video screen. They say the same thing.
DO YOUR JOB.
That was always the mantra in New England. In other words, don’t worry about the guy next to you; if everyone does the job he’s been assigned to do, and does it well, we’ll win.

Morning Guru and thanks for the links
Dove Valley should be very interesting the next week now that Marshall is back. Let’s see how he acts now or what he does next.
The aquisitions of Favre and Cutler make close the competitive gap between the NFC and AFC? Uhhhhhh, NO. Favre is old and just had shoulder surgery on his throwing arm and Cutler hasn’t led a team to the playoffs yet so I don’t agree that any gap has closed.

John Clayton seems more apt to commentating on Magic the Gathering than NFL football.

Thanks John for the news!!!
Kory Lichtensteiger was picked up by the Vikes on Sunday. He knows Cutlers characteristics and could be a vital part of their attack against the Bears.
Mr. Peabody? Has he every been in a football game in his life? He looks like somebody choked the living crap out of him one time or another to make his head look like a bubble dancing head doll. What a ‘twerp’!

Though doesn’t Clayton look more like Sherman than Mr Peabody? Maybe he’s both.

nice! Both of these work for Clayton as well.
Someone should tell him, "Listen to me boy, pay attention when I’m talking to ya. (I got, I say I got this boy as fidgety as a bubble dancer with a slow leak.)

Whoa
From Adam Schefter:
Just sent to ESPN: Lions HC Jim Schwartz announces his starting QB decision – Matthew Stafford. Your turn, Eric Mangini.
Was Culpepper hurt? I was expecting him to start at least for awhile, to get Stafford acclimated, But on the other hand, it worked for Matt Ryan. But on the other hand, Ryan was special, and the Lions are especially terrible. We’ll see.

I thought they'd do that
I saw them throwing Stafford to the lions immediately, lol
You’re right, when they saw what Ryan did last year, well… and, it IS the Lions, after all. ;)

Anyone read what Rick Reilly
said about PBowlen having short-term memory loss? He can’t remember parts of the Broncos Super Bowls and may have forgotten if JC ever called him back. I hope that 2nd part is not true.

Cutler
Anyone think the guy in the Gabrielmethod ad on the front page (the overweight before picture) looks like Cutler?

The Maths of Clayton
If you look at his projected finishes, you see that, compared to last year, Cutler is worth 1 win to the Bears and 5 wins to the Broncos. I guess we need a theory of NFL relativity.

I think with Marshall back (presumably)
and with a couple of injury question marks on the OL now (probably nothing major) they needed more depth on the OL at this point than at WR, where they seem well-covered.
