Horse Tracks - 9/9/09 - Kyle Orton practices, Broncos getting healthy
Good morning Broncos Country. A quick note. The Denver Post has changed their Broncos page a bit. They now have something called 'Premium Broncos'. It is free, but registration is required. I know, a bit of a pain. I have labeled the links below that are 'behind the wall' so to speak, and have placed them at the bottom. I will leave it to you to decide whether or not to sign-up with them.
On with the show!
Quinn absent from Broncos practice - Jeff Legwold(DP)
Broncos rookie tight end Richard Quinn was not present during the team's open portion of practice today. Quinn, per Colorado state law regarding cases of suspected domestic violence, was jailed overnight in Arapahoe County after a quarrel Monday with his girlfriend that resulted in an obstruction of telephone service harassment charge.
Help Down in the Trenches - Zach Eisendrath(DB.com)
In the midst of trimming down their roster to the NFL-mandated regular season limit of 53 players, the Broncos added a proven veteran to their defensive unit over the weekend.
Broncos at Bengals - Points of Interest - Patrick Smythe(DB.com)

Broncos 50th Anniv.: Remembering Super Bowl XXXII - Gary Miller(CBS4)
One name is synonymous with the Denver Broncos: John Elway. In the later stages of his NFL career Elway was the most winning quarterback in the NFL except where it mattered most -- the Super Bowl. That all changed, though, after a devastating loss in 1996 that propelled Elway and his teammate to heights no Bronco had reached before.
Denver Post 'Premium Broncos'
*Numbers: Broncos open in style - (DP-Premium)
Over the years, the Broncos have remained one of the best in the NFL in one specific area. Denver is second in the NFL — the best in the AFC — in season-opening games for teams that have played at least 20 seasons.
*Moreno not at 100 percent but ready to go - (DP-Premium)
Three and 18. Those are the two numbers Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno carries into Sunday's season opener at Cincinnati.
*Analysis: Switch to 3-4 keeping Broncos on lookout for D-linemen - Jeff Legwold(DP-Premium)
As the Broncos move forward as a 3-4 team, the most difficult players to consistently find will be defensive linemen.
*Orton flashing some glove work - Lindsay Jones(DP-Premium)
His injured right index finger bandaged and protected inside a glove, Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton on Tuesday threw his first spirals since dislocating the digit Aug. 30.

Sure am more than ready for the first game. Any bets on who the starting QB will B?
It is better to keep silent, and appear to be wise, then to ramble on and remove all doubt! The Wisest Man, Solomon.
My bet is Orton
For what it’s worth, he seemed fairly comfortable throwing yesterday and the ball came out in a nice spiral. He’s also the guy who knows the most of the playbook and against Cincy, we’ll want to use a lot of new looks.
Hillis/Moreno in '09
Thanks for the Links
I am assuming the Legwold piece was written like 6 months ago and he has only gotten to running it now.
I was thinking of submitting a piece to the DP entitled “In Modern Football Scoring TDs May Be Important.” I think it is just the kind of hard hitting analysis they are looking for.
Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

+1 for the hard-hitting analysis

DP, you suck.
I will not be registering. I read your stuff all the way up until yesterday. Brilliant.
Hey guru, why don’t we do the same since its proven that this type of thing works in the real world. The old media is surely dying…

MHR...and proud of it!
DP Does Suck
If you click on the links on Horsetracks you can read the article, however if you go to Dp’s site and click on the links you have to register. Flaw in the programming I guess.

Does anyone remember when the Broncos were playing in Minnesota several years ago and our QB (I think it was Steve Berline – SP) broke his finger so severely that when he held up the finger for the trainer to inspect, the TV cameraman got a shot that showed the top half the finger bent at what was essentially a right angle from the bottom half of the finger and his hand.
Maybe he was in shock, but he didn’t look like he was even in pain. They get paid a lot of money, but that job is dangerous.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.
Definitely...
dislocation!
Ronnie Lott is still the best. Mangled pinky and was told he would miss some games. Told the trainers to cut it off. They did…
AWESOME!

I dislocated my ring finger playing flag football.
I straightened it out taped 3 fingers together and kept playing. You will be surprised at how well you can take a little pain in the heat of the action. Oh by the way, it is still crooked to this day…heh heh..
I remember that game
Plummer was out with the broken bone in his foot (from scrunching his toes…we must be cursed), and Beurleine took a few snaps and..well…snap.
I believe we got to watch good ol BVP for the rest of that game….

If a glove helps Orton throwing then go for it. Kurt Warner used it last season ( both hands ) and he seemed comfortable with it when I saw an interview with him at some time last season. On the other side it is good to hear that Simms is ready for Sunday should his name be called. Knowing McD and the “Patriots Way” we wont know who is starting til Sunday.
Come in Broncos lets keep that good record we have on opening day.

It’s fine that no one picks Denver to do anything, not surprising and who cares. But only 1 out of 16 of them think Knowshon can/will win offensive rookie of the year? Cool. More motivational fodder for the Know!

I can’t wait to see San Diego go 9-7 and disappoint yet again.
Love the Broncos, don't like their Coach.
if they start slow again, i don't think they will be able to recover...
which isn’t to say the division can’t be handed to them on a silver platter…
