Stedtfeld's Broncos Mock Draft 5.0

Coach McDaniels likes players who work hard, and push to be the best every single day.  People like Elvis Dumervil, Knowshon Moreno, and Eddie Royal.  He likes team players that are ready and willing to do whatever is best for the team.  We have a long list of players like that on the Broncos right now.  But someone who is not on that list is Brandon Marshall.  Brandon is a complete beast on the field, but he doesn't fit the type of player McDaniels wants on his football team.  There are coaches that will want this guy, and bad.  The Ravens are getting close to that super bowl status, and a big piece for them would be a great WR.  The Dolphins would be benefited much by having a big, strong receiver as well.  The Seahawks need a guy like that too.  I think it will be easier than some think to get a 1st and a 3rd rounder for this guy.  Therefore, for this mock, Denver will be receiving the 1st and 3rd from the Dolphins: They need a big play receiver, they have no big physical guy.

TRADE ALERT

Miami receives: Brandon Marshall, WR

Denver receives: 12th pick overall, 65th pick overall

TRADE ALERT

Cincinnati receives: Tony Scheffler, TE

Denver Receives: 3rd round pick

TRADE ALERT

Washington receives: Peyton Hillis, FB

Denver receives: 5th round pick

With the 10th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama

If he's here, there's no reason we shouldn't get him.  Versatile hard worker that would make our linebackers an amazing unit.

TRADE ALERT

Philadelphia receives: 12th pick overall

Denver receives: 24th pick overall, 55th pick overall

With the 24th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Maurkice Pouncey, C, Florida

We need to get ourselves a center, and this is by far the best center in the draft.  Will come in for an old and small Wiegmann.  (It would be awesome to get his bro. Mike next year)

With the 43rd pick in the NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Mike Iupati, G, Idaho

Wow, I am just drooling over the idea of getting both Pouncey and Iupati.  Bringing these guys in would give us the best young line in the league.

With the 55th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Corey Wootton, DE, Northwestern

I like Corey, and he fits the 3-4 DE spot well.  We have to start winning in the trenches, and this pick will help us to win the defensive side of that.

3rd Round, Pick A

Alterraun Verner, CB, UCLA

I see CB as a need this offseason.  I love Verner and he could take over for the Champ when it's his time to go.  Our future secondary would be set:  Verner, A. Smith, Bruton, McBath, Barrett, maybe Tony Carter if he keeps up his play.

3rd Round, Pick B

Dexter McCluster, RB/WR, Ole Miss

I believe we need a change of pace back like McCluster.  He has amazing agility and speed, and he could be the returner to get Royal focused on receiver only.  He will also be a great guy to screen to and spell Knowshon and Buck.  We need a threat like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COpTlPC1go0

4th Round

Bryan Anderson, WR, Central Michigan

Tall receiver who we could hopefully be our deep threat.  We need a receiver to come in and be able to spread the field vertically as a threat to go deep downfield.  Gives Eddie Royal space to go underneath from the slot position.

5th Round

Nate Byham, TE, Pitt

I think we should be getting a TE somewhere, with the departure of Scheffler.  Graham is getting old, so we would have some young TEs for the future.  Byham, Quinn, and maybe Branson would take the spots which were held by Graham, Quinn, and Scheffler this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfaDn8nYCM8

6th Round

John Fletcher, DE, Wyoming

Again, trying to improve our play in the trenches.

7th Round

Kerry Meier, WR, Kansas

He used to play QB but switched to receiver and did pretty well.  Not the fastest guy ever, but a solid receiver.

This is pretty my favorite mock I have done yet.  I really do believe we should strengthen both the offensive and defensive lines this offseason, and that can be done through both free agency and the draft.

If we get that many picks

The top of your mock certainly fills some holes. The bottom gets us younger and adds depth. I would do backflips if the draft worked out like this.
My only other thoughts would be, (a) that defensive FA’s are more plentiful this year than offensive ones and I’m still hoping that we can pick up a strong 320+ lb NT in FA and scoot Fields over to DE, and (b) I don’t think Redskins are in a position to pay any picks this year for anybody. They only have five picks this year, and they have far more issues on their O’ Line to address than we do on ours.

Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!

" I don’t think Redskins are in a position to pay any picks this year for anybody."

But the Reds trading a 5th for Hillis makes sense – they give up a pig in a poke for a 3rd year player that Shanahan knows. But I hope we keep Hillis.

Really like ur board....I would make slight changes as follows:

I’d go w/Dennis Pitta (Utah)in 5th or Peek from Alabama as my TE in 5th. I’d take Legarette Blount in 7th if available. Adding McCluster would be a great “Scatback” both as change of pace and STs, but we need a power back as well. If we could grab a Lendale White type in FAgency then Blount wouldn’t be needed.. Gotta tell ya, with all the additonal picks you’ve accumulated, I think we have to think QB too!!!!!!

To grab both Pouncey and Iupati In the same draft would be considered “theft”. And I agree his brother Maurkice would be target next year.

Nice job!

I really do like Peek,

I’ve had him in a couple of my other mocks, and I’m fine with getting Blount in the 7th if he’s there

Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.

I think you better grab Iupati with the 24th if you really want him.

His stock is on the rise and may even go higher before it’s all said and done…Just saying.

Gotta love any mock that includes a Wyo guy.

I love your mock...

but hey what do I know. BTW…I think it’s Maurkice that’s coming out and Mike that’s staying in.

yeah, your right

I mixed them up

Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.

Wish I was as optimistic

I really wish I was as optimistic about the trades and their value. I dont see us getting near that value for either of them and Shanahan knows that Hillis will be cut so he does not need to trade. Would be nice to have all those picks up front but we traded away a first already in this years draft for Smith so we didnt have to pay 2 this year. I would love to see the Vegas odds on if BM stays/Goes or goes for the value everyone thinks.

I am with all of you though. Getting a guard/center in the 1st 2 rounds that can come in and start would be HUGE. We need a 3rd/4th round guy on the DLine that will contribute right away as well.

Great Draft

I’m not sure that Iupati will be there at 43, & I don’t think pouncey will make it past 18. i would rather reach for him at 12, than take a chance on him falling that far. I think the Giants, or Steelers grab him if we don’t. I love your picks & would be very happy if we could add these players. Great post.

Marshall's stock went up

With the Baltimore’s lack of a #1 wide receiver and them now owning the 24 pick(out of the 4 losing teams this weekend, they have the worst record),look for them to pull the trigger on a 1st and 3rd.The announcers mentioned Baltimore needs wide receivers, over on their website the number 1 mentioned thing is getting a wide receiver(with Marshall mentioned alot) and Baltimore knows other teams will also want a 2 time young pro bowl player that size.LOCK IT!!

by Broncolorado on Jan 16, 2010 9:43 PM MST reply actions

Correct

I’m going to have Brandon going to Baltimore for the rest of my mocks, unless he actually goes somewhere else (for some reason..) or stays in Denver (hope not i’m sick of his problems)

Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.

Would Brian Price fit into the 3-4 well??

Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.

by stedtfeld on Jan 17, 2010 1:39 AM MST reply actions

I agree with IBS that both Lupati and Pouncey will be gone in the first round.

If our OL needs both of them or someone near their skill level, I hope we get them. In the 1st or 2nd round.

by Blackknigh on Jan 17, 2010 2:45 AM MST reply actions

Or we could get Pouncey first round

then Asamoah 2nd

Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.

by stedtfeld on Jan 17, 2010 11:09 AM MST up reply actions

Pouncey is the priority

While Iupati and Pouncey are clearly the best at their positions, there is greater drop off behind Pouncey than behind Iupati.

by Timimus on Jan 17, 2010 1:29 PM MST up reply actions

Yea

That’s why it would be better to get asamoah then the next best center behind pouncey

Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.

I forgot to compliment you on your post. It is a good one.

Your mock draft fills most if not all of the holes right now. I would be happy if this is what happened.

Thanks.

Nice Mock!

McClain, Pouncey and Iupati. It could happen.

by St. James Bronc on Jan 17, 2010 2:11 PM MST reply actions

Assuming we keep 2 #1's

Here is my thinking again that we will not KEEP 2 1st round picks. Bowlen cannot afford to. The Broncos are already paying 2 from last year. If we do end up trading Marshall for a 1st rounder, I would look at us to trade back or use both of them to move up for 1 player. It does not make financial sense to pay 4 players with very little experience that much money next year.

With that said. I sure hope your picks are close because they are very well thought out and would mean a big improvement for next year.

by kimbertr on Jan 17, 2010 3:28 PM MST reply actions

Thanks

I did trade down to the 24th pick from 12,but yeah we may trade and get more 2nd rounders. I doubt we will trade up, the only player I really would want is Suh. I just doubt that we would get the 1st pick.

Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.
