Horse Tracks 1/2/10 - Marshall out; Graham, Royal questionable; Law, Larsen probable

Good Morning, MHR Friends. I mentioned this in my FanPost yesterday, but I'll repeat it here. The Broncos have been 32-31 with zero playoff appearances since their vaunted 2006 Draft Class came in. Why exactly do we need to keep this "young nucleus" together if they haven't proven they can even get us to the postseason, much less win a playoff game? Because they put up big numbers? Because they're great to have on your fantasy football team? Now, try to smile. We've got a chance to make the playoffs tomorrow and a coach who isn't willing to extend the country club-, me-first culture that seems to have infiltrated Dove Valley in recent years.
DB - Week 17 - Fri: McDaniels - Broncos TV
"We want the guys on the field that are dying to play as hard as they can play, with whatever, to try to get us in the playoffs. That's what we're looking for."
Just listen to these reporters/columnists and their questions. You probably know their voices from hearing them on the radio or seeing them on TV. Listen to McDaniels try to answer the same stupid questions asked 5 different ways from the same people and tell me what's going on there. To me, it's like they think they're part of the show - as if this is their chance to be on PTI or Around The Horn. It's Josh McDaniels' presser, folks. Not yours.
DB - Marshall Deactivated for Week 17 - Chris Gentilviso
"If Royal cannot go, McDaniels added that Matthew Willis would be signed from the team’s practice squad to the active roster. Darrell Reid (knee), Correll Buckhalter (ankle), Brian Dawkins (knee), Renaldo Hill (ankle), Ty Law (hamstring), and Spencer Larsen (hamstring) were all full participants on Friday. Each is listed as probable."

Thanks for posting the information Doug
The 2006 class (Cutler) did score the Broncos a few extra draft picks.
Victor Frankl:
What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.
Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.
Thanks Doug
I like that Ted Bartlett guy. He really knows his stuff.
The Zebra Report is a good source for learning about how the rules are enforced.

Mornin, and Thanks Doug. Great Post on the previous draft years,
nice to put it all into perspective.
I here the weather for the game is improving, the Storm Clouds of
yesterday are moving off. The forcast is Sunny, with shades of
Orange and Blue. = -)

only ones perception of it: Atitude! JQM
After listening to McDaniels
I kept seeing both ends of a pass play.
On the receiving end you have Marshall, who the coaching staff obviously believes is willing to bow out of the biggest game of the year and is not as seriously hurt as he seems to think he is. (I am not saying he is or isn’t)
On the other end of that pass is Kyle Orton, a guy who played the season opener with a glove and split finger and then played a the game after tearing up his ankle vs. Washington after we got off to a quick start.
Now I am wondering, who would I want to follow into a big game? Brian Urhlacher knows.
I wonder which guy that BDawk would run through a wall for.
I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. Coach Norman Dale "Hoosiers"
I would also like to add
that in that analogy, you see the type of men McDaniels wants to bring here and has started too. He has had three issues with players. Cutler, Marshall and Scheffler, please think that through.

He has had issues with these 3 players that have been publicly discussed
How do we know there aren’t issues with other players that haven’t gotten into the media, or have been ignored by the media?
Dear Rockies-Thank you for a wonderful rollercoaster season! Best turnaround in MLB history to become NL Wild Card Champs.
Garrett Atkins-So Long, Farewell, Auf weidersehen, Goodbye!! You were a great Rockie! GOOD LUCK!
Troy Tulowitzki-MLB's BEST shortstop..nuff said
Yorvit Torrealba- Re-sign!! he's en Fuego!!
Brad Hawpe- I hope I get to see you in a Rockies uniform again!
Dexter Fowler - prowling CF, WC in his talons, leaping Utleys in a single bound!
because those players respect the coach enough not to bring it out for the world to see.
of course players and coaches are going to have issues. especially in a tough year like this one.
but some have more class or self-respect than others, and deal with issues in a professional adult way. and those are the players mcd wants.
"I just looked across the huddle to see the guys in the huddle with me: great offensive line, great talent at wide receiver, great tight ends, great running backs. If we execute and play the way that we should, it should be tough to stop us."

But Marshall wasn't the one who spoke about accountability...
McDaniel’s did…this is what I don’t understand…

and this is the crux of the issue.
it is becoming clear that josh mcdaniels is not interested in selling the long term to buy the short term (he has also been able to create with limited tools moderate success in the short term, but that an aside). as hard as it is to believe, there will be other players who want to play, even if they are not exactly the talent of #15.

Looks like a couple other guys had hamstring issues and practiced
Note above that Ty Law and Spencer Larsen practiced.
Do you think Rod Smith would have let a little hamstring issue keep him out? How about John Elway?
Guys like Brandon and TO will play through injuries when it suits them.
Guys like TD, Rod Smith, Elway, Al Wilson, played through injuries to win.

If Graham doesn't play...
Are we really going to have to START RICHARD QUINN? This is looking worse the more I analyze it.
We'll get a chance to see how much he's learned since the offseason.
That’s fun.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

I Agree about the Class of '06, but to be fair....
The best counterargument would be that the class’s talent was undercut but glaring deficiencies elsewhere on the team. You could even start on offense. That class came on-line as the offense’s long-time cornerstones — Nalen, Lepsis and #80 — hit the end of the road. And as Hamilton started his descent via concussions and deteriorating ability.
No fair reminding us of Greg Jennings. That’s excruciating.
On defense, you could argue that the class was undercut by a ridiculous decline in defensive talent. You could furthe rpoint out that Doom was the only defensive player in the class, and that he was used inefficiently for the first 3 years of his career. I don’t really think these arguments hold water, but to be fair, they’re coherent and they’re out there.
To me, the most disappointing player is Tony Scheffler. Words that immediately leap to my mind are: uneven, mercurial, inconsistent, and too frequently invisible. I said this on the thread yesterday, but knowing what I know about the coach, I’ll guess that his attitude problem looks something like not making many plays and standing around while Asante Samuel makes an uncontested grab on a contestable ball.
In the end, the top-notch talents from ‘06 are Marshall and Doom. One is a headcase I simply can’t trust. The other is an undersized guy whose staying power is in question if he keeps playing with a high motor against bigger guys. Breaking the bank to keep a nucleus like that together is nuts, even if I have individual attachments to all of the players.
