Broncos make several coaching moves official
The Denver Broncos on Saturday announced several changes to their coaching staff, including the hiring of Bob Ligashesky as tight ends coach and Eric Studesville as running backs coach.
The club also moved Clancy Barone to offensive line coach and named Bob Wylie assistant offensive line coach. Ben McDaniels was promoted to quarterbacks coach, a position previously held by Mike McCoy, who will continue to serve as offensive coordinator.
Ligashesky spent the previous six years coaching special teams in the NFL with Pittsburgh (2007-09), St. Louis (2005-06) and Jacksonville (2004). He spent 19 years coaching at the collegiate level, including four years at the University of Pittsburgh (2000-03) as its tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. He oversaw the development of tight end Kris Wilson at Pittsburgh, helping him finish his senior year as a finalist for the John Mackey Award (nation's best tight end) before he was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. A three-year letterwinner at defensive back at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Ligashesky was born on June 2, 1962, in Pittsburgh.
Studesville spent the last nine seasons coaching running backs in the NFL with Buffalo (2004-09) and the New York Giants (2001-03). He owns 13 years of experience coaching in the league, having also coached with the Bears (1997-2000) following six seasons working at the collegiate level. Studesville, who had additional responsibilities as the Bills' running game coordinator during the last two years, has helped four players total seven 1,000-yard rushing seasons while overseeing 32 individual 100-yard rushing efforts in the NFL. A defensive back at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Studesville was born on May 29, 1967, in Madison, Wis.
Barone spent the 2009 season as Denver's tight ends coach after coaching that position for San Diego (2007-08) and Atlanta (2005-06). In his eighth season working in the NFL, Barone has worked as an offensive line coach for 17 years, instructing that position as an assistant with Atlanta in 2004 and spending 16 of his 17 years at the collegiate level coaching the offensive line. An offensive lineman at the University of Nevada and Sacramento State University, Barone was born on July 26, 1963, in San Andreas, Calif.
Wylie, a 14-year NFL coaching veteran, has 30 overall years of coaching experience and spent the last three seasons coaching in the Canadian Football League as the offensive line coach for Saskatchewan (2009) and Winnipeg (2007-08). He started his NFL coaching career as the tight ends coach for the New York Jets from 1990-91 and has worked with Tampa Bay (offensive line, 1992-95), Cincinnati (tight ends, 1997-98), Chicago (1999-2003) and Arizona (2004). He also owns 13 seasons of coaching experience at the collegiate level, including stints as offensive line coach for Colorado State University from 1988-89. A linebacker at the University of Colorado for three years before transferring to Roger Williams College, Wylie was born on Feb. 16, 1951, in West Warwick, R.I.
McDaniels served as a coaching assistant for Denver in 2009 and owns seven years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate and NFL levels. He was a high school coach in Ohio for four years and also at the University of Minnesota, where he was a graduate assistant, before assisting with the Broncos' offense in his initial NFL season. A former quarterback, McDaniels led Canton McKinley High School (Canton, Ohio) to a 37-3 record and two state championships during his three years as a starter before competing at Kent State University. He was born on June 6, 1980, in Barberton, Ohio.

it's tough finding information on Ligashesky
He’s a very animated coach — apparently. The last frame on that was that emotions are a dangerous thing for coaches. Funny, Lombardi himself wasn’t equipped for coaching. That’s probably why he fared so poorly.
no goats, no glory.
Still no official word on a DC
I had hoped that we would have heard more on a DC. With Ben McD as QB coach does this mean Mike McCoy might be more involved in play calling? Just want to add that 2009 McCoy was also learning what McD was trying to implement. I hope we will see better things in 2010.
He does what he's told and doesn't ask questions?

Like a few more touches by Peyton Hillis? not using him more this year qualifies as “Fraud, Waste, and Abuse”. I think he could really open up the playbook. Grrrr, frustrations, growing pains, arggghhh!

I wonder if OC means McCoy calling plays.....

I would doubt it...
He was the OC last year too. I think McD will be the playcaller, but just my opinion…

I'm really pulling for The Mart man to become our new DC.
Ofcourse he’s going to be a question mark but I LOVE the idea of promoting within. Esp. if the players like playing for him. Thats a big part of having the right additude on deffense. Man, a whole new bag of question marks leading into the season.
its always a new bag of question marks.
2 offseasons ago, the o-line was a question mark; they ended up being the best unit in the league.
of all the question marks we had last offseaon, we were sure the the o-line was solid. down the stretch, it was a bona fide weakness.
as long as you're paying attention
Absolutley!
Peas might be the front runner, but someone with a little mile high blood would be a refreshing start. I love to see progressions and internal promotions as well.

Round and round and round we go
Who will coach? No one knows…….
I hoped we’d hear about a DC, too. I hope we’re waiting for the right guy. I don’t know enough to like Wink or not, but I have a good feeling. These other guys just kinda came out of the woodwork, but in the Broncos I trust.

I actually like 2 guys coaching the OL.
That is right now our greatest weakness. So long as they are on the same page.
My guess on DC is Wink. He will take some time to get organized and his thinking worked around – but I think that he will be good.
It seems that McD is setting in motion more and more of his agenda having had the experience of his 1st year on the job. I am optimistic.
Thanks for the updates John.
