Shifty backs like Charles Scare me

They take advantage of DJ’s weird angles and the general tendency to overpursuit by the LBs converted from end.

I am really getting sick and freaking tired of the defense getting ran on so hard.

this offseason

i think we need to do what sounds crazy – trade champ while he still has some value. he’s not even the best CB on this team at this point. not saying he’s suddenly terrible, but might as well get value while we can

We have been throwing on 2nd and long all day and for the coach to call that play is ridiculous. On your own side of the field down by 6 points on 2nd down run the ball and keep it down there. That interception was on the coach not Orton. Don’t be so predictable chief…or ah Coach

by bfree2bronc on Jan 3, 2010 4:55 PM MST reply actions

Real question

Does McD deserve kudos for getting overall results that exceeded most expectations?

OR

Does McD deserve heavy criticism for coaching a great 6-0 start but then completely stumbling down the finish?

I’m inclined to argue the latter. Had the team not started 6-0 (or won 6 in a row), I’d be pretty ok with this season. But the last 10 games just raise all sorts of flags in my opinion.

by shanahanigans on Jan 3, 2010 4:55 PM MST reply actions

definitely the latter.

This was a .500 team last year. If not for the terrible offseason (much of mcdaniels doing) our expectations wouldve been higher.

by johnnystarr on Jan 3, 2010 4:57 PM MST up reply actions

I'm not sure about higher expectations

…but I do think going 2-8 down the stretch (one game better than the rams over the same period) is pretty awful and negates the 6-0 start. worse, losing every afc-west homefield matchup is just inexcusable. that has nothing to do with the wine-sipping fanbase and everything to do with preparation.

second team since 1990 start 6-0 and miss the playoffs (vikings in 2003 the other). that’s never good.

so, mcdaniels can still crow the semantic line that he’s never been on a losing team. 8-8 ain’t losing…but it ain’t winning either.

We had the talent to beat multiple playoff contenders and then lacked the ability to make adjustments. That’s worse than being a poor team hamstrung by financial crisis.

And San Diego

That’s four out 12 teams in the playoffs.

by legendarywalton on Jan 3, 2010 5:05 PM MST up reply actions

Weren't we talking about the 2nd half of the season?

The only reason we beat those teams was because they hadn’t figured out how to stop us.

So we can make excuses for other teams now?

I thought this community was about accountability. Remember how the Cinci win was a good win no matter what, and that the results on the field are all that matter? We beat them. We have the talent to compete, we might not have the coaching and/or personality to win.

If we have the talent to compete, then why are we losing 44-24 to KC @ home?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What in the world made you think that he wanted to play for this team?! It’s not coach’s fault that Marshall can’t stand this team.

What part of "win and you're in" do the Broncos just not understand?

How long have they controlled their own destiny to have it end like this? Oh well, let housecleaning round 2 commence….now.

This is testing my faith as a fan....

I have never been so embarrassed by this organization until now. Even the SB losses were to really good teams.

The Chiefs wanted to screw our season, Marshall doesn’t give a crap, Scheffler doesn’t give a crap, and we got PUMMELED AT HOME by one of the worst teams in the NFL.

I hate to say it, but I hope this isn’t the start of something awful.

it’s really too bad that we went 6-0 to start, it put too high of expectations on this team and maybe a little pressure. Let’s not forget this is a team that fired it’s coach last year, so in really 8-8 isn’t awful, but when you start 6-0 it’s awful..

But when you lost to the Raiders and Chiefs at home to end a season, it’s bad no matter what.

Housh didn't work out quite as much as they wanted in Seattle.

2-8

I’m in a bar where the temperature is below 30. The 6-0 start is ancient history. This team isn’t any better than last year for several reasons. Orton has done admirable considering what his lmitations are but overall, he’s underwhelming.

For a head coach that was very prepared heading into his interview, our strenghts of the team swapped with our weaknesses. Interesting fact, we played decimated by injuries throughout.

The OL has underperformed and can thank coach for his ability to put players in positions to suceed.

I plan on writing a fan post comparing this team to last year’s team. No question Denver has improved this year but let’s not fool ourselves. When you have turnover at positions such as QB and over haul an offense that converted over 40 percent of 3rd downs, we were certain to go 2-8

Say hello to my fast...
