DB - Success A Reason Behind Disappointment - Jim Saccomano
Sacco's right. Sure, 11 years may feel like a long time to some folks. But some teams haven't won the SB at all, and we were just in the AFC Championship Game four years ago. Keep in mind that our opponents in that game, the Steelers, are the most successful franchise in the NFL. When they went on to win the SB that year, they hadn't done so in 26 years. The Niners haven't won the SB since 1994, and the Cowboys haven't even won a playoff game since 1996. Obviously, that doesn't mean we should be happy about not winning or not being better than we are. But let's maintain perspective.

Great Hillis interview
Guys says pretty much everything you hope he would. I know there’s been a lot of debate about why he wasn’t used more in Josh’s scheme, but I for one am fairly disappointed that we never really had a chance to see him used as a true H-back, as so many were speculating would happen during the last offseason. C’mon Josh, don’t you read MHR? How can a guy with such unique potential drop off your radar?
And thanks again Doug for another great set of tracks.
"All we're trying to do is win the *********** game!" -- Josh MF McDaniels tearing into his offensive line after three false starts in the red zone. The tirade turned the tide of the game, and the Broncos dominated from that point on.

I agree, I’m very disappointed he wasn’t given more of a shot.
I really hope the team doesn’t give up on him yet. It’d make sense to give him another year in the system and let him compete in the preseason and let the chips fall where they may. If he’s still struggling in the preseason then yes, trade him or cut him. Though I’d hate to see them just cut him; I bet Shanahan would be willing to give up a low draft pick for him.

It sounds like
he may not be back. He said the team sounded very ambivilant (my words) in his exit interview. He did say all the right things despite the interviewer constantly trying to get him to “complain”. What kind of questions were those anyway? She may as well have said “Listen, I want some dish, could you cry about something for me?”. To me, reading between the lines, I think Hillis would like to move on, somewhere he will play. I think that if the Broncos are not going to use him, they should let him.
Opinions are like......, Well anyway, this is mine.
Don’t worry about it. As an ignorant redneck, I’m qualified to say that(shout out to KB for this quote as I stole it from his post :-) )
I love Hillis too and appreciated that interview
but I think people (including me, who again have expressed love for Hillis over the past year) should be fair and look at things he himself is culpable for. While I don’t think he should be put in the doghouse over an early season fumble, per se, I saw him make some other mistakes when he did get game action this year, too. Including in the last game when he was pressed into KR duty and twice returned kicks when he was half way into the end zone. I’m sure he was a little impatient to do something exciting but that’s an example of times I saw him not be smart in games. He’s not a great blocker either. I still would however like to see him get more time in at RB however, because KR and blocker are not his strong suits but he can definitely run and get tough yards. So… the upshot is I’d like to see him get another chance, too. But think he’s also partially responsible for not gettin as much pt as we would’ve liked. Just mho!

I can't understand why you wouldn't take Hillis over Jordan any day of the week?
I hope he stays a Bronco next year and has a fair chance to compete for at least some playing time next year.

Why does everyone hate LaMont Jordan? Is it because he was a Raider? He’s not a star, but the guy is a complete back. He’s very good in short yardage, he blocks well and he’s an excellent receiver.

I so agree
Not all RBs have to be flashy to be effective in role situations.

Interesting with Hillis. I hope we keep him, maybe the offensive playbook opens up a little more with McD and Orton being together in year two…
Thanks Doug!

Saccomano makes a good argument
Although it borders on sounding excuse making, it’s true that there are 32 other teams out there. So, all things being equal, a reasonable fan should be happy with one superbowl every 32 years. Of course, there’s always a certain contingent of the league which isn’t competitive (I’m talking to you, Bill Ford), but even if you write off a quarter of the league, that’s one in 24 chances. Until the last 4 years, the Broncos had been the most consistently good (but not great) teams in the league for quite a while. hopefully with some more depth along both sides of the line of scrimmage, they’ll be back at that level again next year.
Belief is accepting something because you’ve been convinced to do so, whether you like it or not. Faith is accepting something because you want to accept it.

I can agree to that if it means Pittsburg
wouldn’t be allowed another Lombardi for the next… (pulls out calculator) … 192 years.

Good analysis by Jeff Legwold
On why there might not be a huge demand for Marshall
War is behavior with its roots in the primal sea - eat whatever you touch, or it will eat you. John Fowles
Straw Man
when will you ever learn? Way to toss up some softballs for him guys. Q: “Woody: Do you like McDaniels?” A: “Even though it may seem like I like McDaniels, I actually do not. He wears a hoodie, and obviously hoodies are bad. Clear as day. No one, especially a young guy in a cold, rocky mountain city, would ever choose to wear a hoodie of his own accord. This guy I know (personally—we get together on weekends to be crotchety), [drop name], says hoodies are bad too.”
He even contradicts himself in the same answer. Shannahan was right to get on Marshall when he was milking his hamstring. He was also right to fake it to TD when he had a migraine. McDaniels was wrong to get on Marshall when he was milking his hamstring (and supposedly doing other non-team-building exercises), and he was also wrong when he told Moreno to go for it on a fourth and one when his migraines were acting up real bad (I KNOW! I remember that too! Outrageous!).

That Woody article was...
the biggest piece of dog poop i’ve ever read. I really used to like Woody but this year he has really tried my patience. ugh.
I disagree 100% with:
“Sacco’s right” and then he opens with “There are no happy Denver Broncos fans right now”
That is categorically incorrect. There are no “this is all we ever do", "where is John", "should have never", "why did we", "we always", "we can’t” fans that are happy.
I consider myself a true Broncos fan. My parents moved to Denver in 1976, when I was 6. I was there in ’77 they (we) went to the Superbowl. I became emotionally tied to this team at that moment. The opening kickoff, sipping on my Orange Crush, I got it. I was done. I was a Bronco. From "the drive" to "the fumble" to winning in ’97 to the Championship in ’05, that was always our story, walking that fine line on the precipice. If anything else, it was exciting. Through the lean and the mean I was always happy to say I supported the Bronco’s.
This year has shown me one thing and one thing clearly: we are on the right path. If, after three years of not making the playoffs and going 8-8 per season, you change the entire regime, defensive strategy, quarterback, and offensive system and then go 8-8, why shouldn’t you be happy? Has any other team done this before? Change everything and not have a losing record?
I was pleased with the offseason moves the team made. If they have another offseason like that and give the players a second year in the system I am happy. Content? No. Happy? Yes.

Broncos sign two more Futures players
According to Denver Post/Lindsay Jones:
PostBroncos
Former CU offensive lineman Matt McChesney among the 3 players the Broncos signed to future contracts. Others: C Dustin Fry, P A.J. Trapasso
McChesney seems a good signing, no?
