RiG's Preliminary Offseason Plan
Here's What I'd do If the offseason happened in one day and I was in charge....
Expiring contracts:
Kyle Orton: resign to a three year deal
Tony Scheffler: Trade away for a 3rd round draft pick
Marshall: tender for a 1 & 3 -resign
Hamilton: let walk or sign to a backup contract
Chris Kuper: resign
Elvis: Resign
Free Agency:
Harvey Dahl: He could really upgrade our line; help with opening up holes for knowson and hold a better pocket for Orton to dance in.
Barry Cofield: He could give our dline some added depth, can rush the qb
Jason Avant: add some WR depth, solid reciever
Draft:
1. Mike lupati: G Trade down a bit pick up a third & sixth. Yes Im on the wagon or whatever. I think we could even move him to center. I dont see any reason why he wont succeed in the nfl. Great Character, great feet, can play in zone and man schemes. He should be on McDaniel's Draft board.
2. Cameron Heyward 3-4 DE Outstanding Motor, can push linemen into the pocket disrupting timing and is good at shedding blockers in order to go get the guy. Underrated
3. Daryl Washington ILB. TCU
3. Jay Ross NT
3. Eric Olsen C
4. Alterraun Verner CB
5. John Skelton QB
6. Brandon Banks WR/returner
6. Dennis Landolt T
7. Mikell Simpson RB
SO after this our oline would be super deep, we'd have more dline depth, one more year experience and ready to make the playoffs. I wrote like a whole paragraph here but the site lost it somehow, now its just too hard to re type.
Roster:
OFFENSE
QB: Orton Brandstater Skelton
RB: Knowshon Buckhalter Hillis Jordan Simpson
FB Larsen Hillis

LT Clady Landolt
LG Dahl Olsen/ Hochstein
C Iupati Wiegman E.Olsen

Good stuff man...like the draft. :)
Verbose in style, dispersion of thought, procrastination in life.
The guy formerly known as ZAPPA
Is Dahl at 305 light for McDaniel's preferred OL size player?
iupati. I’m fully aboard and can spell properly now. :)
Not sure why everyone seems to be seeing a NT drafted early. I mean aren’t we young enough there already? Would a higher draft pick make much of an impact at that position? Or contribute to our depth? I am excited to see what Baker has done after a year of teaching and work.
I think I would love to see LG, RG, C, CB, ILB in total, but I wouldn’t be suprised to see our picks go ILB, LG, CB, RG, CB, C, DT depending on best player available and what we get for Marshal.
I think I’ve consigned myself to not getting much for Scheff. We couldn’t get a 5th last year so I’m not getting my hopes up for a TE that yes can catch, but hasn’t consistently proven he can be counted on to hold his blocks when required.
I'm glad we had this talk.

and drops too many balls....
Scheff had a good thing going with Cutler, and he seemed to find the seam well, but he’s always had a case of the dropsies. I don’t see us getting anything for him other than a 6th or 7th from Shanny mebbe.
I like it!
however, I really do not see Marshall returning in a Broncos uniform next year…
But I am totally on the Iupati bandwagon too.. hope we can trade down a few spots and pick him up. Though I wont be disappointed with McClain or Haden either….
Bleeding Orange & Blue in The Netherlands
thanks
I like McClain, haven’t watched Haden
I just felt like McClain is alot like Andra Davis now and we wouldn’t get an impact as much with him as iupati and we might have to wait a year or two before we really need him, when LBs are usually available in the draft to immediatly make an impact. Haden to me just feels like we are throwing money at a problem, we have 2 starters, a 1st in smith, carter, Law, later draft picks…..
This is what Im thinking back and forth with the opposite argument. I know what you mean
besides contracts and stuff I would like, i guess

I like the mock but
1. I think Heyward said he is going back to school.
2. This is a draft where elite defensive players are available in the first 15 picks, unlike last year. With that said, I think we should draft accordingly.
3. I definitely think we need defensive line help because the status quo at our defensive line won’t cut it. Teams were running the ball up our ass and I am sick of it.
4. I am on board with lupati!
-
1. I was not aware
2. Who do you mean?? (I’m not against this at all, I just want toknow who u thinking)
3. agree
4 yea

Good stuff RiG
Isn’t Cofield a DT in a 4-3 system though?
Character may be manifested in the great moments but it is made in the small ones -- Philip Brooks
yes, he plays for the giants
Im really not sure he could play in 3-4 but I think we could find use for him either way

I'm worried about right tackle
Doc (Emmett) has said that it takes one to two years to come back from Harris’ injury. That would mean he’s back in November at the earliest. Polumbus is not the answer, unless he shows tremendous improvement over last season.
War is behavior with its roots in the primal sea - eat whatever you touch, or it will eat you. John Fowles
Which makes Iupati all the more appealing.
As he has the size, athleticism and reach to theoretically project to tackle. Thus you’ve got a premier LG prospect and a 3rd T in the same package (tough, smart, versatile). In fact, he might be as good of RT prospect as he is a G prospect.

I was gonna say that
Iupati could also come into the league as a right tackle, good feet, strong etc
I think he could beat out polumbus for the backup job

re: Heyward
He appears to be staying in school.
I like him as a pick, in fact he’s an excellent pick but…………
no goats, no glory.
Thanks, my bad
yea I didn’t see that
Ill take that into account for the next one

Can someone tell me how often college OGs become Cs in the NFL?
Iupati has no experience at C (to my knowledge) at college, but I’ve seen several people propose putting him or Olsen (also no experience at C) at C. I know that college Cs can be used at OG in the NFL (Ben Hamilton comes to mind), but I am not aware of it occurring in the opposite direction, when the player has no experience at C. Does this ever happen and if so how difficult is it for them to make the transition?
Good job
I like the Iupati, Olsen, and Verner picks a lot
