Monday Night Football Open Thread -- Minnesota Vikings vs. NY Jets

After a rain delay, the Minnesota Vikings are playing the New York Jets tonight in New Jersey. It's only a few minutes into the game so far, but I think I've already seen my favorite play of the week, though it was unfortunately called back. Who expected to see Randy Moss get an end around ... then throw the ball to 41-year-old Brett Favre who then caught the ball at the sideline for a 1st down. It was awesome. It's too bad that you can't do this sort of thing because a QB would have to declare as an eligible receiver. Then again, why not declare Favre? Who would really have expected Favre to be out there catching a pass? Anyway, discuss away. This is your open thread for tonight's game, courtesy of... me.

Yeah,

they would so not be expecting Orton to catch a pass, he’d be truly wide open. Then, one key block from DT and he’s in for six. Lmfao. Actually, I almost made a typo and wrote “he’s in for sex.” And that’s what he’d get, studly Orton.

by Orange Rush on Oct 11, 2010 9:09 PM MDT up reply actions

Thanks for putting the thread up!

Ok, how do our banged up Broncos beat the Jets on Sunday?
As i recall, didn’t the Jets back into the playoffs last year because the Colts sat Manning? Are the Jets overrated? I think they are. I believe our offense will rise to the occassion against the Jets. Would like to see our defense just blitz the heck out of Sanchez o every frigin play. If our special teams show up, I think we win by 10!

by rocko1 on Oct 11, 2010 7:41 PM MDT reply actions

I think they're actually better than last year, though it's early yet to tell.

Sanchez is more confident in the offense, though still not like a veteran. LT is dangerous. Their O-Line is fairly solid. We probably won’t be able to generate much pressure. It will be hard, on our side, for Orton to get time to throw the ball. Screens and such plays may be crucial. It could be a close game. I hope it is, cause that will mean we have a chance to win. We won’t be blowing them out, I don’t think.

by Orange Rush on Oct 11, 2010 7:46 PM MDT up reply actions

No question, it will be a tough game!

i agree, Jets are better this year. I would like to see us in a no-huddle offense from the opening snap. Orton was great at this in Chicago. Let’s suck the thin air out of those Jets’ lungs.

by rocko1 on Oct 11, 2010 7:52 PM MDT up reply actions

Not sure we can run at the sidelines to help wear them out. Maybe some trick plays?

by Orange Rush on Oct 11, 2010 8:05 PM MDT up reply actions

The no-huddle will work!

Don’t let em substitute or get off the field. Imo, only one better QB in the NFL than KO, at running the no-huddle offense early in the game. Suck the mile high air out of those lungs!

by rocko1 on Oct 11, 2010 8:13 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, you're right.

That’s what Indy does. Given our particular homefield advantage, it would seem like a great way to go.

by Orange Rush on Oct 11, 2010 8:16 PM MDT up reply actions

I have been waiting for that

I don’t see us run a no-huddle very much. Try to throw them for a loop.

So...

the Patriots have apparently acquired WR Deion Branch from the Seahawks. Who the heck do the Seahawks have left at WR after dumping Houshmanzedah and Branch, and what does it say about them that they had these guys and didn’t get anything out of them. Almost Oakland-esque.

So the Jets can't be this good...Farve looks bad and Moss looks worse.

It will be a long day if NY makes Orton throw under this much pressure. Also, I see that LT is dicing up the MINN defense. Our front four have their work cut out for them. Hoping to see Mays at ILB this week and Haggan replacing Ayers. Maybe a switch could do us good. Still sorry to see the Ayers headline though. He was really stepping up his game.

Favre is good when everything goes his way!

Make him play in bad weather or under an intense pass rush, and he folds like a 40 year old suit. On the other hand, kyle Orton is like a duck in water when conditions aren’t perfect. that’s when his experience in playing for the Bears pays off! :)

he's just an over-aggressive CB

He gets a lot of picks since he is good at jumping routes… Problem is, for every pick he gets, he gets burned a dozen times. Unfortunately, box scores only show picks, not times a CB gets toasted, so he’s generally considered to be a good CB by those who are fairly unintelligent.

One thing I will credit him with though, is he’s in the perfect defense for his (limited) abilities. Cromartie’s weaknesses can be easily masked and he can play to his strengths in a high pressure defense like the Jets. That’s why in SD as soon as their pass rush went downhill, so did Cromartie.
