Appreciation of our past...

I'm sitting here and I have a smile on my face.  I should be working, but I can't.  It has been too difficult of a task for me so far this week.  I can't stop flashing back to the beating we took this past weekend.  My work is suffering and I can't sleep.  So I did what any sane Broncos fan should do.  I looked to our past.

Some of you may know that the NFL Network has been showing some programs aimed at the 10 best this and 100 best that.  Well, they were also showing the 20 best Super Bowl Champions.  1997 Broncos came in at 13 and 1998 Broncos came in at 12.  The programs are 1 hour long and chronicled the ups and downs of the season, playoffs and of course the Super Bowl.  It also showed interviews with key players during those seasons.  Well I DVR'd both programs a couple of weeks ago and hadn't watched them.

Cue the Broncos Beating of the year...and I'm looking for ways to regain my sanity.  I finally decided to watch the 1997 Super Bowl Broncos review.  Halleluyah!  I can't tell you how good it made me feel.  It was nice to be able to look back on our glory years and see why we follow our local team here.  I'm planning on watching the 1998 Review on our bye week Sunday.

Some of you might say I'm living in the past.  I don't see it that way.  I see it as just a way of reaffirming my fandom.  It's like the old adage... If you don't know where you have been...how do you know where you are going?  To deny our past and history is tantamount to treason as far as I'm concerned.  There have been many people on this site who look at Shanahan and say good riddance.  Why?  Shanahan should ALWAYS have a soft spot in every Bronco fans heart.  He is the coach who elevated this franchise to elite status.  Was it time for a change?  Yes, but let's remember how good we had it.  And let's appreciate our past...not disregard it.  McD, Xanders, and the entire organization, I feel have done just that.

So my suggestion to every Broncos fan that is suffering like I was, go find one of those videos.  Maybe for you it might be the 1977 Broncos season review.  Maybe it is the 1998 Broncos review.  Or maybe it is just an old game that you have recorded.  Find it.  Play it.  Appreciate it.  And remember it.  You will feel far better.
